The indoor venue had a raised platform for the long jump, which was different to what most athletes are used to.
In her first two jumps, Emily fouled and recorded no jumps. This put pressure on her to readjust the length of her run-up. A jump of 4.77m secured her three further jumps.
The top two medals were never in doubt, but the bronze medal was hotly contested. Emily recorded her best of 4.91m twice, which is her season's best jump. She finished in fifth place.

Softball squad launches campaign to honour beloved late teammate

PALMERSTON – A local softball team is hoping to honour the strength of a beloved former player with its new fundraiser. Emily 'Em' Wood was a beloved member of the Palmerston Marlins for three years. The team meant a lot to her, with her mom saying it was the first time she ever felt like part of a team. So when Emily, 17, died last October from a brain tumour, the team wanted to honour and remember her. Aiming to raise $10,000, social media coordinator for the Palmerston Marlins Ladies Softball Association, Debbie Schneider, said the team recently launched its 50/50 fundraiser, Swing for the Fences, to help commemorate player #17, Emily 'Em' Wood. Calling Emily a strong Marlins player, Schneider said the team felt it was important to use the funds to repair and strengthen the aging outdoor batting cage at the Barb Wright Ball Park in Palmerston, home of the Marlins, in Emily's memory, since they know she would've done the same for them. 'So we want to remember her,' said Schneider. 'We have a lot of new players every year, so we want her legacy to live on, for everybody to understand, to work hard.' Playing for the Marlins for three years, Emily's mom, Christina, said she loved the Marlins because it was the first time that she felt like she was a part of a team. 'When things go so bad that she wasn't able to play anymore, she still wanted to go (to games), just even to be there with them (her team),' said Christina. Remembered as a kind person who was determined in her own feelings, Christina said the team was 'so inspired' by Emily, who wanted to support people like her and played 'right until the end.' 'The fact that Emily went through everything that she went through and still wanted to be who she was, that was a lot for the team,' said Christina. 'She's touched so many people, I mean she's known provincially, if not around Canada, for how strong she was, and that was huge for the team to see that she was willing to fight like that.' Beyond making the cages stronger for Emily, Schneider said the existing batting cages aren't getting used at the moment because they're very old, dated, and need repairs. 'We thought it could be something that could be used more often so players can practice improving their batting,' said Schneider. 'Obviously, that is an important part of playing softball.' The Swing for the Fences 50/50 Fundraiser draw is Aug. 3 at 8 p.m., the weekend of the Palmerston Homecoming. More information is available here . Matildas add A-League Women champ to coaching staff

The Matildas have poached Central Coast's championship-winning coach Emily Husband to join new coach Joe Montemurro's staff as an assistant. Husband departed the Mariners on Monday, after two incredibly successful years at the helm, to take up a full-time role with Football Australia. The Englishwoman was A-League Women (ALW) coach of the year in her first season in 2023-24 when she built the Mariners' squad from scratch, then led them to the semi-finals. She backed up by claiming the club's first ALW championship this year. Husband reunites with Montemurro as his first backroom appointment after serving as his assistant for last year's ALW All Stars game against Arsenal. "Emily is an astute, modern coach who's already proven her quality at the domestic level," Montemurro said. "Her work with the Central Coast Mariners has been phenomenal and demonstrates the qualities she will bring to the Matildas. "Emily has a deep understanding of the game, an ability to connect with players, and a fresh perspective that will be invaluable to our set-up. I'm looking forward to working closely with her once again." Husband was involved in Tom Sermanni's last camp against Argentina as part of FA's 'Team of Coaches' development initiative. The former Canberra United assistant will start ahead of Montemurro's first games against Slovenia on June 26 and 29, then Panama on July 5 and 8, in Perth. It is the latest step in Husband's incredible rise from a backpacker who became a coaching force at Sydney University while on a working holiday visa, to one of Australia's top-rated mentors. Central Coast Mariners can today announce the departure of Ninja A-League Head Coach, Emily a huge opportunity ahead, Emily leaves with our gratitude and best wishes, as a Champion and a Mariners legend 🥇Thank you, Emily 💛🗞️: — Central Coast Mariners (@CCMariners) June 9, 2025 "To be trusted with the chance to contribute, even in a small way, to the Matildas and their future is an absolute privilege," Husband said. "Joe is someone I've always had enormous respect for. Not just for his football brain, but for the way he leads. "We've had the chance to work together before, and I'm genuinely thrilled to build on that now as we hopefully play a part in guiding the Matildas to reach greater heights." Husband's appointment also helps address a dearth of women in senior coaching roles at FA, following the departure of Melissa Andreatta (Scotland women's national team head coach) and Leah Blayney (Japan women's team assistant). "We're thrilled to welcome Emily Husband to the Matildas coaching team," head of national teams Gary Moretti said. "Emily is one of the most exciting coaches in Australian football and we're proud to see her progress into the national team environment."
