RM1mil relief for KLFA but no rash spending, says president
PETALING JAYA: For a team that have previously struggled with financial issues, receiving a windfall is certainly a welcome relief, especially with the new Super League season set to begin on Aug 8. The Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) were handed an unexpected boost when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an RM1mil allocation during their Golden Jubilee celebration on Saturday. However, KLFA president Syed Yazid Syed Omar is keeping his excitement in check, stressing that any decision on how the funds will be used must be carefully discussed with the association's executive committee, with the main priority being the development of Kuala Lumpur football. 'We never asked for it, but the Prime Minister made the announcement himself. I didn't expect it at all. It's a substantial amount, and we are very grateful,' said Yazid. 'KLFA need to discuss on how to use the money thoroughly. What matters most is ensuring that KLFA are well managed. As for KL City's long-standing salary arrears and debts, Yazid said most of the outstanding payments have been resolved, although he declined to reveal the exact amount still owed. This season, KL City have also made bold moves in the transfer market by signing several high-profile players, including Manuel Hidalgo, Syamer Kutty Abba and Safawi Rasid. Yazid expressed his gratitude that the club's finances are now in a more stable position, largely due to the support of patron Fahmi Fadzil. With a strengthened squad, he is aiming for a top-two finish in the Malaysian Super League and a spot in the AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2). 'For KL City, funding and sponsorship have been flowing in. I would like to thank our patron for being instrumental in helping us secure the necessary support. 'We are financially stable now. Salaries are up to date under the new management and everything is running smoothly. Last season, despite facing severe financial difficulties, KL City still managed to finish sixth in the Super League and reached the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Cup.

PM announces RM1mil for KLFA, calls for more ethical sports culture
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of RM1mil to the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) in support of efforts to revitalise football in the capital city. The Prime Minister said the government consistently encouraged the development of football, which he described as a people's sport that was widely loved and participated in. However, he stressed that emphasis should be placed on infrastructure as a fundamental aspect in advancing the sport. "This is an opportunity for us to elevate the status of national football, but it has to start from the basics. That is why what was raised just now about collaboration with the Education Ministry, the Higher Education Ministry, or other training institutes is important. "It's not just about funding, but adequate infrastructure is crucial - proper fields, training facilities, training academies - to ensure our children are trained well and in comfort," he said in his speech at the KLFA's 50th Golden Jubilee celebration here Saturday (July 12). Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who is also KLFA patron, and KLFA president Syed Yazid Syed Omar. Meanwhile, Anwar also urged that sportsmanship be preserved, including proper conduct among supporters, who at times behaved beyond acceptable limits and tarnished the spirit of unity. "There are groups of supporters that can sometimes get out of control... Losing does not mean the team should be ridiculed," he said. The Prime Minister also said he had instructed the police to monitor and control any incidents that could harm the image of national football, in line with the goal of sports as a medium of unity and healthy living. He said associations such as KLFA were also responsible for ensuring that sportsmanship and unity continued to be upheld among supporters and players. At the event, KLFA also announced several strategic collaborations, including with the Education Ministry to strengthen football development at the school level and the Youth and Sports Ministry in implementing coaching development programmes and initiatives involving youth. - Bernama

90% of KRTs remain active, boosting community unity in Malaysia
MACHANG: Close to 90 per cent of Malaysia's 8,586 Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) units remain actively engaged in community programmes, demonstrating strong public commitment to unity and local development. National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) director-general Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud highlighted the steady growth in active KRTs, attributing it to heightened public awareness and resident participation. 'Each KRT receives RM6,000 annually for operations and must conduct at least eight activities to retain active status. These initiatives not only strengthen bonds but also create economic opportunities,' he said during the Kelantan state-level Rukun Tetangga Golden Jubilee celebration at the Machang Unity Complex. While 10 per cent of KRTs remain inactive, Che Roslan noted a gradual decline in this figure. 'We provide structured support, including counselling and mentoring, before considering fund withdrawal for persistently inactive units,' he explained. He encouraged KRTs to explore additional funding by proposing community-based economic projects like small-scale farming or food production. 'Many have succeeded in ventures such as chili farming or sauce production, boosting local income and self-reliance,' he added. With the national-level Golden Jubilee celebration set for August 28 and 29, KRTs nationwide are preparing diverse programmes showcasing local arts, culture, and unity. In Kelantan, a Dikir Barat competition is nurturing young talent while preserving cultural heritage. The festivities will begin at KRT Kasipillay and conclude at Galaxy Hall in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, honouring 16 KRTs that have reached a 50-year milestone—proof of the movement's enduring impact.
