And then up steps Paul Hanlon – a Hibee through and through

Hibs legend Paul Hanlon has been awarded the Club's Special Recognition Award for his outstanding contribution, commitment and dedicated years of service to Hibernian FC.
Hanlon received the award at the official End of Season Awards night earlier this month, following in the footsteps of his current teammate Lewis Stevenson and fellow Club legends Joelle Murray and Pat Stanton.
Speaking on the night, Hanlon admitted how proud he was to follow in the footsteps of such iconic players.

'It is an amazing moment. To see some of the names that have won the award before is really special, so to be named in that group with that calibre of player and person is incredible. I am delighted to receive the award.
'I was over the moon when I got the invitation to come along and it is great to catch up with everyone at the Club as well.
'I was emotional watching back some of the tributes from past managers and former players too. Mixu (Paatelainen) was up on the screen – he gave me my debut all those years ago, so I will always be grateful for that.
'There were a lot of special teammates and friends who I met along the way. I keep in touch with these guys all now, so it was very nice to hear from them – even though it makes you feel a wee bit emotional and uncomfortable at the same time!'

That's because the draw for the next round will be made on Monday at 11am with Martin's men seeded in the league path, meaning they will avoid the likes of Benfica, Club Brugge and Feyenoord at this stage. There are four possible options facing Rangers - the winners of Red Bull Salzburg v SK Brann, the winners of Viktoria Plzen v Servette, Fenerbahce or OGC Nice. Hibs will be seeded for the draw as they will inherit Midtjylland's coefficient ranking if they overcome the Danes, but will be kept apart from Rangers as teams cannot be drawn against an opponent from the same association. The list of possible third round opponents for David Gray's men includes FC Lugano or CFR 1907 Cluj, Sheriff Tiraspol or FC Utrecht, Panathinaikos, Servette or Viktoria Plzen, Wolfsberger, Fredrikstad and Brann or Red Bull Salzburg. Hibs and Dundee United Conference League draw Defeat for Hibs would send them into the Conference League third qualifying round, where they will join Dundee United, assuming Jim Goodwin's men make it past FC UNA Strassen in the second qualifying round. United travel to Luxembourg for the first leg this Thursday before hosting the return leg at Tannadice the following week. The list of potential opponents for both clubs at this stage is extensive, with UEFA set to finalise seedings, groupings and the draw procedure early in the morning on the day of the draw.

2024/25 Premiership Supercomputer results - where Hearts and Hibs finished vs pre-season predictions

There were contrasting fortunes for Hearts and Hibs during the 2024/25 Premiership season. Ahead of the campaign, both Edinburgh rivals were expected to challenge for top half finishes and be firmly in the race for European competition when the season came to a close in May. However, as the final stages of the campaign arrived, it was Hibs that had firmly solidified their place in Europe as a third place finish ensured they entered the Europa League and they are currently focusing on a second qualifying round tie with Danish side FC Midtjylland. Hearts were left disappointed as they missed out on a top six place when the Premiership split took place and will hope to fare better when the new league season gets underway next month. But how did the two sides' performances compare to the pre-season predictions delivered by a Supercomputer? 2 . David Gray not too downhearted despite Bolton defeat

Hibs head coach David Gray admits his players could have been 'better' during yesterday's defeat to Bolton Wanderers at Easter Road. However he was pleased to see former teammate Darren McGregor honoured at his Testimonial Match, and remained buoyant despite the off-day against English League One opposition. Two second-half strikes sealed the win for the visitors as Hibs struggled to impact the game as much as Gray and his coaching staff would have liked. After the final whistle he said: 'It wasn't our best, most fluent performance by any means. We all know that. There's a lot of improvement to come. 'We've got a lot of hard work still to be done and we've got a really good game to look forward to on Thursday. 'I'm really happy with our pre-season, but today I think we can be miles better. We know the areas we can be better in. 'We'll be back in on Monday and we'll need to make sure we are bang at it to improve.' It was a competitive encounter between the two sides, with Steven Schumacher's side offering Hibs a tough, physical test in torrential conditions. According to Gray, the difficulty of the fixture was no different to other pre-season matches so far however, but instead just a different style to play against. 'When you look at all of our games in pre-season, they have all been difficult games. 'The standard of the opposition we have took on, that is all with European games in mind because of the variety in teams you can potentially face. 'Today was more of a domestic challenge we would face week in, week out in Scotland – which is high intensity and very aggressive. 'I'm not getting too downheartened by what I have seen. A lot of good work has been done and I'm happy with the fitness levels of the players.' Gray also touched on Darren McGregor's warm reception at Easter Road, with the current Hibernian Under-19s Head Coach and former Hibs centre-back's service to the Club celebrated with a Testimonial Match. The two defenders both won the 2016 Scottish Cup together, with Gray only having great things to say about his former teammate. 'It's a special day for Darren and his family. I wish we had a better result for him but, on the whole, for what he has done for this Club, it was a fitting testimonial and I'm delighted to be part of that for him. 'As I've said, it is a special day for a special person who has given a lot to this Club. It's his childhood club, the team he grew up supporting and he has spoken very honestly about what this Club means to him. 'He deserves all the praise and accolades he's had over his time at Hibs, because he has certainly left nothing out there for them.' Like this: Like Related
