SELECTS: Stripping it Back with Egyptian Stylist Lamia Rady

CairoScene25-04-2025
Who said stripped back had to mean stripped down? Stylist and designer Lamia Rady serves sharp cuts, bold tailoring, and clean lines with a kick.
Minimalism doesn't always play it soft. Sometimes, it struts in sculptural tailoring, structured silhouettes, and a well-placed cutout, and Lamia Rady knows exactly how to make that kind of statement. A designer, stylist, and art director all in one, Rady's eye is razor-sharp and effortlessly cool. Whether she's styling a celebrity or crafting sculptural looks for her brand Rigash, her work always walks the line between minimalist and bold, polished and provocative.
'I grew up in a creative household—my dad's an interior designer, my sister's a visual artist, so design was just part of life,' she explains. From styling friends in high school to founding her own brand in 2020, Rady's path has been marked by a penchant for structure, asymmetry, and texture-driven storytelling. She's dressed names like Salma Abu Deif, Tara Emad, Asser Yassin, and Asmaa Galal, worked with local fashion darlings like Okhtein, Dina Shaker, Farah Seif and Jude Benhalim, and continues to expand Rigash while balancing shoots, editorials, and campaign direction on the side. 'At 13, I taught myself to sew. I even named Rigash while watching a cartoon,' she laughs.
'My personal style is minimal with a twist— edgy, bold, and statement-driven,' she tells Scene Styled. That means sculptural leather, cinched waists, architectural sleeves, and the kind of restraint that feels deliberate, not dull. 'I love how brands like Celine or Margiela do it—clean, but never boring. I want Rigash to feel like that too. Minimal, but not forgettable.'
It's that stripped-back energy Lamia Rady does best, where minimalism comes with a sharp, knowing wink– which is exactly why we tapped her for this week's Selects.

Monochrome Monday: The Love Potion Edition

We've reached a point where we might have to hex our way into a summer situationship. Jul 14, 2025 Summer is the season of flirtation. It's hot, you're hot, they're hot, and the worries of woeful winter seem ages away in a sultry beach bar. Everyone is suddenly in the mood for love, which is why, this Monochrome Monday, we've decided to help you dress to impress, or more accurately, dress to steal hearts. I mean, why go to the trouble of concocting an elaborate love potion, as per the instructions of some TikTok witch, when you can just dress in love potion? Serenity Bangle | Jude Benhalim Now that sleeves are out of the way, it's officially bangle season, and Jude Benhalim's Serenity is the perfect accessory to bare your arms for. Rula Dress | Noon by Noor Rula hangs from your body in a way that's dynamic, changing with every step you take. At times, it hangs loose, detached from your form, while at others, it holds you like its life depends on it. Naturally, it's a love potion in and of itself. Zinnia Top | Tyler McGivilliary Flowy, floral and flirty, Tyler McGivilliary's Zinnia top is the only flower you need to bring to a summer date. Leather Flip-Flop | Rigash They're chic, they're practical, and they're orchid-adorned, which makes these flip-flops the perfect pop-of-colour to spice up city outfits, or to dress up your beach attire. Fiamma De Hg Swimwear Full Set | Hadia Ghaleb With its bold geometric patterns and bright colour, Hadia Ghaleb's Fiamma set walks the fine line between retro and futuristic, all while protecting you from the horrors of sunburn. Starlight | Zyne With just enough shine to draw attention, but an ease that implies cool-girl-monologue-level nonchalance, Starlight is a shoe that bewitches. Allegro Ribbon Earrings | Sterling King To be completely honest, these earrings might steal your spotlight. The way they playfully hang from your earlobes, sculpted in a way that almost seems random but isn't, is enough to keep any engineer occupied for at least half an hour. Amore Moussard Silk Scarf | Amel Batita In this beautiful silk scarf, Amel Batita blends bold pink and red together perfectly in a bubbly blend that looks like a screenshot of an actual (drinkable) love potion in action. Paradoxe Radical Essence | Prada Prada's Paradoxe is the actual love potion, as per the testimonies of countless, now-married women on the internet. The perfume's radical essence is even more powerful, so use it mindfully. Dechaneé | Maison Yeya Maison Yeya's Dechaneé works in reverse. It naturally places you at the centre of attention, with a brightly coloured skirt and an entirely bedazzled top - and matching gloves. Dechaneé makes you the star. Fortune Bag in Love Potion | Ecco This functional purse is the perfect pop of colour to your city wardrobe, with its enchanting (pun intended) hue and complementing delicate orange stitching.

SELECTS: The Artist Off Duty With Egypt's 'Experimental Joy'

For someone who works at the intersection of code, culture, and craft, getting dressed is just another part of the process. A personal experiment. A way to ask better questions- visually. Joy AKA Experimental Joy builds her world piece by piece- sometimes with code, sometimes with fabric, often with both. Her work spans 3D-printed jewellery, wearable art, and immersive tech installations, but fashion is where it all becomes personal. It's where ideas are worn, not just shown. You could try to label her, but she's already 3D-printing past the binary. A creative technologist with a flair for sculptural silhouettes and a sharp sense of self, she treats fashion the way an artist treats a blank canvas. After ten years in Toronto, surrounded by glitch art, subcultures, and second-skin dressing, she returned to Egypt with a heightened sense of contrast. 'Returning to Egypt pushed me to rediscover how I present myself in the world- through fashion and jewelry.' She tells SceneStyled 'Navigating a familiar cultural landscape meant relearning boldness, crafting a new visual vocabulary through statement pieces that still feel like home.' For this Selects edit, we tapped Experimental Joy to curate six looks that echo her 'artist off duty' state: personal, intuitive, and a little bit defiant. Think asymmetrical cuts, playful proportions, jewellery that borders on sculpture- and the confidence to pull it all off. For her: 'a real artist is never off duty, every look is an opportunity to tell a story- to shape perception, challenge norms, and scream curiosity.' Look One | 'A digital femme fatale built in armor and futurism, where body meets code' Structured like software and styled like sculpture, this look channels a techno-mythical heroine with intent. The Mugler bodysuit lays the foundation in sheer geometry, while Joy's own 3D-printed hand bra and spiked choker transform the chest and neck into coded architecture. The leg armour by Victor Clavelly sharpens the silhouette, and Balenciaga's wraparound sunglasses complete the upgrade. 3D printed hand bra Custom by Experimental Joy 3D printed hand choker (spiked) Custom by Experimental Joy Black Rodeo Bodysuit - Mugler Armored Legs designed Custom by @victorclavelly on instagram Spirit Bag - La Lune Official Rogue Earring - Kiska Lab 360 MASK SUNGLASSES - Balenciaga Look Two | 'This is cultural source code. A rendered archive of memory and material- a hybrid identity- textured, ancestral, and beautifully compiled.' A soft collision of timelines and geographies. The structured lines of Daneh's dress meet Joy's 3D-printed nose piece in a blend of futuristic craft and ancestral codes. Hand henna recalls childhood rituals, while Rick Owens boots disrupt with raw power. Vintage scarves, spiral earrings, and a well-placed ring thread together a visual system where heritage is recompiled- on her own terms. The 3D-printed star bra and resin heart- both made by Joy- pulse beneath oversized parachute pants. Layered with signal-boosting details like Klassemoon's sigil glasses, an internet-core rosary, and a silver sculpted bag. Low effort, high signal. Comfort with intent.' Denim may say downtime, but the rest tells a different story. Her 3D-printed corset reshapes casual wear into process, while Zaza shades and a multicolour minaudière add punctuation. Moon boots step lightly through the static, and Jude Benhalim's Medusa earrings hint at a myth rewritten. Off-duty doesn't mean unplugged- it just means running quietly in the background. 3D Printed Corset Custom by Experimental Joy Zaza Shades Custom by Experimental Joy Trance Chain - Vitaly Holiday24 Destroyed Jeans - Stressmama Moonboots Medusa Earrings - Jude Benhalim Palmette Oval Minaudiere - Okhtein Look Five | 'Detail-driven and deliberately guarded.' Every piece is holding something back. From the custom headpiece to the deviant pink corset and butterfly necklace, this look whispers in layers. The blush is sharp, the jewellery says 'come closer' while daring you not to. It's aesthetic encryption: if you know, you know- and even then, you might not. Clean lines, blurred emotion.' There's softness here, but it's refracted. The Venetia maxi dress by flows like silk code, but Joy's 3D-printed face hugger warps the silhouette. Margiela Tabi boots anchor the look with cold elegance, while Rick Owens adds ritual with a hooded micro layer. This is how you do romance in beta. SELECTS: From Day to Dusk, Model Amy Shaban Keeps It Easy Breezy

Whether she's styling shoots or starring in them, Shaban thrives in the space between roles, moods, and silhouettes. Amenah Shaban is the kind of person who makes fashion look effortless— because for her, it is. The 25-year-old Jordanian model and stylist, better known as Amy Shaban, has been living and breathing fashion since her childhood runway shows (read: in the living room, for her family), and she's since turned that early flair into a full-blown career. After finishing university in Barcelona, Shaban returned to Amman and gave the 9-to-5 life a shot— but it didn't take long for her to realize it wasn't her thing. The structure felt limiting, and her creative instincts were pulling her elsewhere. 'If I had to describe my style, I'd say it's bold, versatile, and never boxed into one category,' she shares— and the same goes for her career path. From campaigns with Mango, Karen Millen, and Obagi to even launching her own agency, she's done the rounds— in front of the camera and behind the scenes. 'I've always loved how fashion can shape the way you feel,' she says. Shaban's style is more so about instinct rather than rules. 'My style shifts depending on my mood. Some days I want to be loud, other days I want to be minimal, but I always want to feel put together.' Whether she's pulling a look together as a stylist or posing in front of the camera, Shaaban's fashion instincts are crystal clear—and her favourite labels reflect just that. 'Some of my favorite brands are Bottega Veneta, Jacquemus, COS, The Row, PatBO, Oceanus, Annie's Ibiza—and emerging designers who really focus on detail and quality,' she says. 'I love brands that balance simplicity with something unique, whether it's the cut, the fabric, or the way a piece fits.' She's styled for names across the region (and worn just as many), but our Selects for this week? All about ease, polish, and a little play— exactly what you'd expect from someone who's built her career on trusting her gut and knowing when a look just clicks. Look One | Sunsets, Sparkle & Summer Nights Gold fringe, sun-kissed skin, and a Bottega bag that deserves its own boarding pass— this look is made for balmy vacation nights and flirty summer strolls.
