KSRTC staff on strike from August 5 over pay hike
Pay hike with effect from January 1, 2024, settlement of pending salary arrears for 38 months (January 1, 2020, to February 28, 2023) and wage revision to be in effect for four years (from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2027), deputing only corporation drivers to operate electric buses instead of those deputed by private players, scientific revision of Form 4 (which assigns timings for each bus route) are some of their major demands of nine pointers submitted to the CM along with the strike notice dated July 15, 2025.
The JAC, led by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC)-affiliated KSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation, with the support of five other unions, announced at a press conference here on Wednesday that they had served the strike notice to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. It recalled previous instances of having withdrawn their strike after promises from the CM, who they claimed had taken a negative stance against their demands, and condemned his move at a meeting on July 4.
In their letter, the JAC said, 'In the July 4 meeting, you (CM) rejected our demands. You questioned the previous government's order, manipulated it without understanding the order and stated that there are no pending dues to be cleared, and that the next wage revision will only be in 2027.'
They said the CM's stand has come as a shock to the workers, and recalled how workers had strived for the rollout of the government's Shakti scheme, which helped RTCs get awards, and accused the CM of delivering grave injustice.

1 2 Jalandhar: A few families of Latifpura, whose houses were demolished by Jalandhar Improvement Trust on Dec 9, 2022, continue to live in tents beside the debris of the razed buildings, but not for long. This is because, on a petition filed by the joint action committee, Model Town, the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday ordered the Jalandhar deputy commissioner to remove encroachment from the area within a month. The JAC moved court, mentioning old litigation and court orders. It said although Jalandhar Improvement Trust demolished the houses, the outsees were still squatting there, and the debris was also not removed, which created trouble for people living in the area. Vehicles also had to take a convoluted route, claimed the JAC. Demolitions in Latifpura created a lot of political heat in the winter of 2022-23, as oustees spent cold days and nights next to the debris. Opposition leaders visited them. Some outsees said their families were just making ends meet and they had no other place to live. Supported by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha and other farm and Sikh groups, a protest continued at the spot for some months. A few major demonstrations were also held. As the issue gathered steam, the Jalandhar district administration and Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) offered flats to the displaced people in the trust's development scheme—Bibi Bhani complex. However, the oustees, who formed the Murr Waseba Committee, which included representatives of organisations supporting them, rejected the offer. There were several rounds of negotiations, but the issue remained unresolved. While JAC members have issued a statement hailing the HC directive and termed it a major victory for a common man, the few families living in tents are worried. Rashpal Singh, 75, sitting outside a small tent that has beds and other belongings, said his family had a few cattle to make ends meet, before their house was demolished. "Our family settled here after they came from West Punjab after Partition. My one son died earlier and another last year," he said. His widowed daughter-in-law, Baljinder Kaur, said she was making both ends meet by stitching clothes. "Our family was rendered homeless and the state govt should provide us housing," she said. Prem Singh, sitting outside his tent, said his one son was operating an e-rickshaw and the other sold vegetables on a cart. Rita Devi, a widow with three sons, is also living in a tent. She said she had been stitching clothes to earn a livelihood. "We too need a roof over our heads. Govt must do something," said Prem Singh and Rita.

Rahul Gandhi has evidence of voter fraud, says CM Siddaramaiah
BENGALURU: Ahead of the Congress's protest demonstration in Bengaluru on August 5 against the alleged electoral manipulations, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said that Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has credible evidence of voter fraud in the Assembly constituencies of Mahadevapura and Rajajinagar during the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Speaking to media persons in Bengaluru, the CM said to highlight this serious issue, Rahul Gandhi will lead a protest in Bengaluru on August 5 and meet with the State Chief Electoral Officer. Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress president DK Shivakumar said that the protest against vote theft would be held under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi at Freedom Park on August 5. The CM, DyCM, and senior Congress leaders, including AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, held a meeting at the KPCC office and also visited Freedom Park on Thursday. Speaking to the media at Freedom Park, the DyCM said they need to protect the Constitution and the voters' rights, and the struggle for that would get more strength if it starts from Karnataka. The party leaders will talk about irregularities during the Lok Sabha and assembly polls in the state, he said. The protest will be held in accordance with the guidelines issued by the state government and court directions, he said. 'We had filed objections, but the Election Commission did not accept them. Mahadevapura candidate Nagesh's son showed the documents. The same happened in Dinesh Gundu Rao's Gandhi Nagar assembly constituency. Nearly 7,000 voters were added in one ward,' he said, responding to a question why they had not filed objections when the draft voter list was published. Shivakumar said there is no padayatra, and they are only holding a protest at the Freedom Park. 'We will decide the mode of travel to the Election Commission from Freedom Park based on the suggestions of the police,' he said.

CM Siddaramaiah reins in party MLAs, asks them to exercise restraint
BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seems to have reined in Congress MLAs regardless of their loyalty to him or Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar during his meeting with them. The feedback from AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala, who met over 100 MLAs, came in handy for Siddaramaiah to help resolve their problems. On Thursday, he met most MLAs and district in-charge ministers. He is likely to resume the exercise after August 6, when he will meet legislators from Bengaluru, Dakshina Kannada and other districts. During the meeting, Siddaramaiah sought an explanation from Mudigere MLA Nayana Motamma for reportedly participating in a meeting to make preparations for Ganesh festival by sporting a saffron shawl and sharing the dais with Hindu activist Pramod Mutalik. He advised her not to involve in activities that would embarrass the party, sources said. 'I gave my explanation on the circumstances that made me attend the meeting. The CM advised me to act according to Congress's secular ideology and not to repeat such mistakes,' she told TNIE. The CM promised funds for relief works in rain-hit areas, including Chikkamagaluru district, when MLAs, including Rajegowda, Tammanna, raised the matter. Promising adequate funds, besides Rs 50 crore under the CM's infrastructure development programme, Siddaramaiah ensured the disgruntled MLAs, who had lodged complaints with Surjewala against some ministers, to exercise restraint and not to go public. He advised Channagiri MLA Basavaraj Shivaganga not to issue harsh statements and work in tandem with Davanagere district in-charge minister SS Mallikarjun, the sources said. Siddaramaiah promised to provide grants to the MLA from the minor irrigation department for development works in his constituency. Sharing a light moment, the CM advised him against campaigning for DK Shivakumar as next CM, the sources added. The CM met MLAs and ministers from Chitradurga, Shivamogga, Haveri, Gadag, Bagalkote and Vijayapura districts. Siddaramaiah asked the MLAs to ensure that the five guarantees of the government reached the beneficiaries. Their efforts will help the party in the next elections, he told them.
