Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will face British qualifier Oliver Tarvet in the second round of Wimbledon 2025 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.
While Spain's Alcaraz beat Italy's Fabio Fognini 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-5, 2-6, 6-1, the 21-year-old Tarvet enjoyed a dream debut at his home Slam as he took down Swiss qualifier 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Monday.
Tarvet, who came through three rounds of qualifying, thrilled a packed crowd around Court Four in the first-round battle which lasted two hours 18 minutes.
Second-round losers are guaranteed 99,000 pounds (USD 135,000)in prize money, but because Tarvet is still a student at the University of San Diego, he will miss out on a potentially career-changing windfall.

Under National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules in the US, players are required to stay amateur and are restricted in how much prize money they can claim from professional tournaments. World No. 733 Tarvet will be entitled to only USD 10,000 plus any expenses he incurs.
However, Tarvet has already risen to a new career high of 390 in the live ATP Rankings and is likely to turn professional after completing his final year of college in California.
Tarvet was the only British player who managed to come through qualifying, having defeated World No. 124 Terence Atmane of France, World No. 207 Alexis Galarneau of Canada and World No. 141 Alexander Blockx of Belgium. He took the total number of home players in the main singles draws to 23, including 14 wildcards.

Wimbledon, Day 3 Live updates: Rain delays Carlos Alcaraz and Sabalenka's R2 clashes

Looks like Djokovic is just as excited to play Wimbledon as ever. He had a decent showing against Alexandre Muller, beating the Frenchman (6-1), (6-7), (6-2), (6-2) With rain pouring down in London, Day 3 at Wimbledon has kicked off with an expected delay. Covers are firmly on and umbrellas out, but that hasn't stopped the stars from taking their positions. While play is yet to begin on the outside courts, the atmosphere remains electric as fans await the action and players prepare behind the scenes. Stay tuned as we track all the updates, drizzle or not. ☂️#Wimbledon — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) July 2, 2025 Even the rain can't stop Aryna from smiling 😁#Wimbledon — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) July 2, 2025 It's doubles time for India at SW19! Rohan Bopanna, Yuki Bhambri, and the rest of India's doubles contingent begin their Wimbledon 2025 campaigns today. Expect sharp volleys, big serves, and plenty of tricolour pride on display. Stay tuned as India's charge begins on the Wimbledon lawns! It's been a chaotic opening to Wimbledon 2025. Thirteen of the 32 seeded men's singles players — yes, nearly half — crashed out in the first round. Big names like World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and Lorenzo Musetti were among the early exits. The women's draw wasn't spared either, with Coco Gauff and Pegula also bowing out. Day 3, then, is all about calm amid the storm — but with Centre Court packed and unpredictability in the air, don't be surprised if Wimbledon throws up a few more surprises. Stay tuned as we bring you all the live updates from the All England Club! It's Day 3 at Wimbledon 2025, and the stars are back on Centre Court — with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka headlining Wednesday's action. Alcaraz, who came dangerously close to a first-round upset against veteran Fabio Fognini, returns for his second-round clash against 21-year-old British wildcard Oliver Tarvet. The young Brit will have the home crowd behind him, but stopping Alcaraz, who's chasing a third consecutive title at SW19, is a mammoth ask. Before that, Sabalenka opens the show on Centre Court. The Belarusian powerhouse breezed through her first round and now faces Marie Bouzkova — a lower-ranked opponent but no pushover. With Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula already packing their bags, Sabalenka knows she can't afford to slip. Also in the spotlight is British No. 1 Emma Raducanu, who will follow her good friend Alcaraz onto Centre Court. With the local crowd roaring her on, Raducanu will look to ride the energy and go deep into her home Slam.

Bayer Leverkusen Rope In Jarell Quansah Form Liverpool

Leverkusen are said to have paid an initial fee of £30 million for the 22-year-old defender, with the potential of rising to £40 million in add-ons. Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen completed the signing of English defender Jarell Quansah from Premier League side Liverpool on Wednesday. Leverkusen are said to have paid an initial fee of £30 million for the 22-year-old defender, with the potential of rising to £40 million in add-ons. Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes expressed his delight following the transfer as he appreciated the qualities of the young English defender. 'One of the most promising English central defenders. He's fast, agile, a good footballer," Rolfes said. 'He has already made an impressive impact in a Liverpool defense dominated by world-class players," he added. 'With Jarell, our defense gains significant dynamism, pace and toughness in tackling, and he's another very important building block," Rolfes stated. Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have had multiple negotiations go through this year as the PL winners managed to sign German starboy Florian Wirtz and fullback Jeremie Frimpong from the Bundesliga side. The 22-year-old German midfielder, Wirtz, joined Arne Slot and Co. on a British record fee of British record fee of £116 million. Earlier, Liverpool completed the signing of Frimpong in order to replace the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold, who opted to join Spanish giants Real Madrid, for a fee reported to be in the range of £30 million. Liverpool clinched their 20th top-flight title as they wrapped up the Premier League crown with a couple of weeks to go before the final gameweek in Slot's debut season. But, had to endure a terrible incident during the trophy parade around the city as a 53-year-old man rammed into dozens of fans celebrating their side's accomplishment at Water Street on the day following the conclusion of the campaign. Motor racing-Three Britons can win but Piastri has his own script

* Motor racing-Three Britons can win but Piastri has his own script Norris, Hamilton and Russell chasing home victory * F1 leader Piastri 15 points clear of McLaren teammate Norris * Silverstone marks 75 years since championship start By Alan Baldwin LONDON, - Three British winners have their sights on a home grand prix victory this weekend but Oscar Piastri could rain on that particular parade as Formula One returns to where the championship started 75 years ago. Australia's championship leader can still count on plenty of support as a McLaren driver but much of the crowd, and certainly the 10,000 in Silverstone's sold-out 'Landostand', will be cheering more for British teammate Lando Norris. Norris won Piastri's home grand prix in Melbourne in March, an added incentive for the Australian at Silverstone, and the pair are turning the season into a two-horse race as the campaign reaches the halfway point. Piastri is chasing a sixth win in 12 races while Norris arrives from Austria on a high after dominating every practice session he took part in, taking pole by a huge margin and holding off his teammate to win. The two are 15 points apart, with Red Bull's reigning four-times world champion Max Verstappen third overall but now a hefty 61 points off the lead after a first retirement of the season at his team's home track at Spielberg. "My favourite weekend of the year," said Norris, who has yet to take back-to-back wins. "It's already a special circuit but to also have my family, friends, home fans and so many of the team there supporting us takes it to another level. I'll try to make sure I give the fans a wave as I drive past." Piastri recalled he had fans chanting his name at Silverstone not so long ago. "I am not sure I will get that again but they have always been very accepting of me. I race for a British team. I am expecting that there will be more Lando fans than there are for me but that's fair enough," he said. HOME HERO HAMILTON If Norris's support is strong, then Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton will always be the big sentimental favourite. The last two races have been won by British drivers George Russell for Mercedes in Canada and then Norris last weekend. Could Hamilton make it three and send the crowd crazy? The 40-year-old won with Mercedes last year for a record ninth time and taking that tally into double figures, in what will be his first home appearance in the Italian team's red colours, would be something else. Ferrari are the only top-four team without a win this season, other than Hamilton's Shanghai sprint success, and the seven-times world champion has yet to stand on the podium for his new employers. He has also gone 13 races without a top-three finish, a career low. On the plus side, Ferrari were second fastest in Austria with Charles Leclerc third and Hamilton fourth and a new floor seems to be doing what it was supposed to do. Hamilton usually manages to produce something special at Silverstone, set to welcome a record half-million fans this time over the four days. Last year he turned up after 52 races without a win and seized one of the most emotional triumphs of his extraordinary career. Russell, on pole as Hamilton's teammate last year, also has a strong chance particularly if temperatures cool and will be eager to bounce back from a tough weekend in Austria. Italian rookie teammate Kimi Antonelli meanwhile carries over a three-place grid drop from Austria. Britain's fourth driver, Oliver Bearman at Haas, will be targeting points while the same applies to British-born Thai Alex Albon at Williams.
