Mirabito donates $60k to fight local food insecurity
During the month of March, the Mirabito Cares Round Up campaign raised $60,000 to support local food banks and fight food insecurity in the communities it serves.
Throughout the month, customers at all 109 Mirabito Convenience Store locations wereinvited to round up their purchases at checkout. Proceeds from the campaign benefited the Food Bank of Central New York, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, and the RegionalFood Bank of Northeastern New York. Each organization received $20,000.
'We are so incredibly grateful for the partnership with Mirabito and the generosity of their customers. This fundraiser makes a difference for parents, children, families, and older adults,' said Mark Bordeau, President and CEO of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
The Food Bank of the Southern Tier benefits families and individuals in need in Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins Counties.

Stewart's sells 6 locations across 2 deals

Dive Brief: Stewart's Shops has sold four convenience stores to Mirabito Energy Products and two to Prestige Petroleum, a company spokesperson confirmed to C-Store Dive. Mirabito's acquisition introduces the company's c-store banner to Vermont, according to a company announcement. Five of the six stores were divested as part of an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission ahead of Stewart's closing its acquisition of the 45-store Jolley chain, the spokesperson confirmed. Dive Insight: Stewart's closed its deal for Jolley in December of last year. The deal grew its footprint in Vermont and New York and gave Stewart's its first foothold in New Hampshire. Mirabito, an energy and convenience company based in Binghamton, New York, purchased former Stewart's locations in Queensbury and Rouses Point, New York, and former Jolley locations in Plattsburgh, New York, and Manchester, Vermont. 'We are proud to welcome these locations into the Mirabito family,' said David Bonczek, CEO of Mirabito Energy Products, in a separate announcement. 'We have been honored to provide residential and commercial fuels along with HVAC services in these regions for many years, and we look forward to strengthening those relationships by delivering reliable convenience and added value both at home and on the road.' These locations will be rebranded to Mirabito and begin accepting its Mirabito Rewards loyalty program, which gives customers fuel discounts and special offers. Prestige Petroleum purchased two former Jolley locations in Queensbury, according to the Stewart's spokesperson. This is the second time in the past month a convenience retailer has divested stores to get FTC approval for an acquisition. Alimentation Couche-Tard sold 35 locations to Majors Management as part of its purchase of GetGo Cafe + Market from grocer Giant Eagle. Fill the Bus Campaign raises money for local food bank
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Wegmans is stepping up to combat summertime hunger among students, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals when school is out. Wegmans is partnering with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier for its annual Fill the Bus Campaign. From now until June 18, Wegmans customers are invited to donate between $2 and $5 at the register when making their purchases. These donations help fund food baskets for students and families who miss out on school meals during the summer. Wegmans' Merchandizing Area Manager Rusty Dewing says that the organization is thrilled to be able to lend a helping hand. 'I've seen bags delivered to families that need them, and it's very touching and humbling to see that happen, and it actually just brings so much joy to know that people are getting some of the things that they may need,' said Dewing. Outside of the store, a parked school bus serves as a symbol, promoting the cause and inspiring shoppers to donate. For over 45 years, Wegmans has donated 36.6 million pounds of food to Food Banks in the areas that it serves. Minden marks one year since EF-3 tornado
MINDEN, Iowa — It was April 26th when the tornado roared across the southeast part of Minden. In all, 50 homes were destroyed, and numerous others were damaged. The city's utilities were knocked out by the storm. One year later, almost all has been repaired, but the town's water supply has a temporary unit borrowed from the State of Iowa. 'It's been a lot of work I mean we got a lot of houses are coming back, there's still some that need worked on, but a lot of them are close to being able to move back in,' said Mayor Keith Zimmerman. 'The community center, all of our city buildings, they all need worked on yet we haven't done them yet.' Paige Myers runs a catering business in Minden. She got a call from her dad shortly after the tornado hit. Local law enforcement partner with DEA for Drug Take Back Day 'He had called me and they must've just been coming over the hill and he's like 'the town's gone. The whole town's gone,'' said Myers. 'I have three aunts and they all live in Minden and the two of them, two of them lost their houses and then my sister-in-law also lost their house.' Myers said she was able to finish her catering work even in the midst of tornado damage. She's thankful for all the people who came to Minden to help clean up. 'A lot of my high school friends all moved away from here and came in that Sunday when they opened the town to people,' said Myers. 'I had tons of classmates back from Des Moines or Omaha. They all came back.' Myers had to repair the roof of her downtown building, but she was able to keep working at her business through all this. Tim Assmann, of Tim's Service, decided to rebuild his auto repair shop across the street from his former location. He also built a much larger shop, which he plans to open for business next week. 'Minden itself is a very, it's only a town of 600 people, a very small community,' said Assmann. 'Everyone has gotten together. Everyone is helping each other's businesses and homeowners, we are Minden Strong.' The community will enjoy a meal together at the town Triangle Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26.
