TMC student leader says many like rape accused Monojit Mishra present in other Kolkata colleges
Suspended Trinamool Congress student leader and former president of Jadavpur University unit Rajanya Halder has accused that there are many like Monojit Mishra, the prime accused in South Calcutta Law College student rape case, in many colleges across West Bengal.
'There are many such characters like Monojit Mishra hiding inside the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMC student wing) and they should be identified and given specific punishment. They also shared my distorted pictures - made by AI. Many 'dadas' like Manojit Mishra used to send such pictures to their juniors' phones on WhatsApp,' Ms. Halder accused. She called for strict action against such 'criminals' and asked the party to identify them.
'They exploit women and lure them about giving them positions in the party or other favours. This just means that women still do not have equal rights in the organisation,' Ms. Halder told The Hindu.
Ms. Halder said that she informed the party's higher ranks at the beginning of July and has brought the matter to their attention. She also said that the party has assured her that they will look into the accusations and take necessary action against the accused.
On enquiring why, she has not filed an FIR against the perpetrators, she claimed that if she files an FIR many TMC leaders' names will come up in the list. 'I am not against the party, I still love my party. That is why I have informed party seniors and not the State authorities till now,' Ms Halder further added.
Reacting to the comments made by Ms. Halder, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) State president Trinankur Bhattacharjee said that they have not received any formal complaint from Ms. Halder about the issues she has spoken about.
Priyadarshini Hakim, general Secretary of Trinamool Mahila Congress said that if Ms. Halder's allegations are true then the perpetrators should be held accountable and punished. 'There is no need to make this about any party. There are good and bad things inside every human. We need to hold the people accountable,' Ms. Hakim said.
Debanjan Dey, Students Federation of India (Student wing of CPI(M)) West Bengal State secretary accused that TMCP has promoted the rise of the 'Monojit Da model across campuses in Kolkata. There were multiple allegations against Monojit in multiple police stations, then why did they not take action?' Mr. Dey accused.
Suspension from party
Last year in October, Ms. Halder and her husband Prantik Chakraborty were suspended for anti-party activities, student leader Mr. Bhattacharya had said.
The duo had made a short-film about the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder incident and the subsequent protests. The short film titled Agamani was allegedly made without any 'party permission'. They were suspended before the short-film's release.

Once installed, the app asks for access to contacts, call logs, and messages—giving hackers full access to your data. Behind the scenes, it retrieves your private data and silently transmits it to scammers via hidden Telegram bots. In an earlier report, India Today exposed the 'Vahan Parivahan' APK, which intercepted OTPs to enable fraudulent e-commerce transactions. The latest clone, however, shows a more advanced threat profile—designed to harvest Aadhaar credentials and banking information. It also exploits device permissions to access local files and storage, significantly heightening the risk of sensitive data infected, the device grants attackers access to SMS, contacts, and storage. The malware uses fake login screens, intercepts OTPs, and extracts sensitive files like Aadhaar documents—silently sending all data via hidden Telegram bots, enabling swift financial frauds. Attackers can monitor all pre-installed banking and payment apps on the infected scam's reach goes beyond the initial victim. By hijacking chats and OTPs, cybercriminals can target victims' family and contacts, attempting to steal their money too. This isn't merely a theoretical risk — in a recent case in Bengaluru, both the victim and his wife were targeted with attempted unauthorised transactions.A US-based mobile security firm, Zimperium, earlier reported a similar trend where malware is spread via WhatsApp as APK files disguised as legitimate government or banking apps. Chennai Cocaine Case: Conditional Bail Granted To Actors Srikanth And Krishna
Chennai: Actors Srikanth and Krishna have been granted conditional bail by the Madras High Court in the Chennai cocaine case that has rocked the Tamil film industry. The two actors, arrested in connection with an alleged high-profile drug racket, have been ordered to report daily at the Nungambakkam Police Station as part of their bail conditions. The actors were arrested after police arrested Prasad, a former AIADMK functionary accused of supplying cocaine to actor Srikanth, and Kevin, who allegedly sold drugs to Krishna. A Ghana national named John and another individual, Pradeep, were also taken into custody. Police say Kevin was caught with cocaine, referred to as ganja, methamphetamine, and Rs 45,000 in cash. Krishna allegedly consumed and shared drugs with friends and was part of WhatsApp groups used to coordinate drug use. Srikanth is believed to have had direct links with a drug cartel, having both purchased and used narcotics supplied by Prasad. Both actors belong to prominent film families. Srikanth has acted in around 70 films, while Krishna is the son of a film producer and brother of filmmaker Vishnu Varadhan, and has starred in celebrated Tamil films including Anjali, Iruvar, and Thalapathy. Reports suggest that other actors may be under the police radar in connection with the case. Following the controversy, Kerala-based film producers have made anti-drug affidavits mandatory on film sets. Karnataka woman and boyfriend kill her former live-in partner, throw body into river
A missing-person complaint filed by a woman for husband in Karnataka has led to the arrest of three people including a woman he had been in a live-in relationship with, the police said on Monday. S D Sharanappa, Commissioner of Police, Kalaburagi city, identified the deceased as Raghavendra Naik, 39, and the arrested accused as Ashwini alias Tanu, 26, Gururaj, 36, and Lakshmikanth, 28. He said that a live-in relationship that went wrong could be the reason behind the murder. In March, when an unidentified dead body was discovered in the Krishna river near Shaktinagar in Raichur district, the police registered a case of unnatural death. Surekha, wife of Raghavendra Naik, later filed a complaint at the Station Bazaar police station in Kalaburagi stating that her husband had been missing for two months. According to the police, Raghavendra Naik, who would do odd jobs, used to come home once a week or 10 days. But he did not come home for more than 15 days, prompting Surekha to approach the police. Inspector Shakil Angadi led the investigation, which revealed that Raghavendra Naik was involved in a live-in relationship with Ashwini. However, Ashwini later left him and began a new relationship with Gururaj. When Raghavendra Naik discovered this, he began harassing Ashwini, demanding she return to him. Frustrated by Raghavendra Naik's persistent harassment, Ashwini complained to Gururaj, who allegedly devised a deadly plan with his friend Lakshmikant. On March 12, Ashwini invited Raghavendra Naik to meet her near Super Market in Kalaburagi. When Raghavendra Naik arrived at the designated location, all three conspirators kidnapped him and transported him to a graveyard near Krishna Nagar, according to the police. The police said the accused brutally assaulted him at the graveyard, including on his private parts, eventually killing him. Following the murder, they allegedly threw his body into the Krishna River at Shaktinagar in Raichur district. An officer said that when the police checked the call detail records (CDR), WhatsApp messages, and audio notes of Raghavendra Naik, they found out about his relationship with Ashwini. Upon interrogating her, she spilt the beans about the murder, the officer added.
