Sacramento neighbors worry about planned tiny home village for homeless seniors and veterans
As Sacramento's homeless crisis continues, the tiny village proposal has some neighbors worried about what it will mean for their safety and security.
John Vignocchi is the developer behind the proposed transformation of a blighted and barren lot on Rio Linda Boulevard in North Sacramento.
"And what we're looking to do is transform it into 100 tiny home units for seniors," Vignocchi said.
Renderings of the project show the manicured development projected to cost a third of the price of traditional housing.
"And that means that you're able to get three times the number of people off the street, that means you're able to solve this problem three times faster," Vignocchi said.

Vignocci is asking the city council to approve the plans and apply for state funding through California's Project Homekey Plus program, aimed at reducing homelessness.
There are already hurdles.
Nancy Azevedo lives across the street from the proposed tiny home village.
"I don't think it's the right place for it," Azevedo said. "It feels like we're constantly getting dumped on."
Azevedo is already campaigning against the plan, citing other homeless housing programs already in place in north Sacramento.
"I'm letting them know that, 'hey, this is what's being proposed,' and call your councilperson and tell them that this is not what you want in your neighborhood," Azevedo said.
Councilmember Roger Dickinson has not decided on his position yet.
"I think the concern is about whether or not north Sacramento is being asked to shoulder more than its fair share of burden," Dickinson said.
"When you're accused of being a NIMBY, in this situation, what's your response to that?" I asked Azevedo.
"In this situation, I'm okay with that," Azevedo said.
"If we're going to solve this problem, we can't just say, 'Oh, not in my backyard.' We need to lean in and say, 'How do we make this work in my backyard?' " Vignocchi said.
The city council was expected to take this up Tuesday. In a last-minute move, they are delaying their vote until mid-May.

The Narrow Road to the Deep North: where to watch Jacob Elordi's epic war series
In the mood for a good weep? Well, good news. World War 2 drama The Narrow Road to the Deep North is heading to the BBC this week, and it promises lashings of devastation. As you would expect, for a show that's all about the building of the Burma railway. Constructed by Japanese prisoners of war, it was infamous for how many people it killed – approximately 90,000 east Asian civilians and 12,000 POWs. The trailer looks compelling (and harrowing) and it stars Jacob Elordi in the lead role, using his actual Australian accent to play the lead, Dorrigo Evans. It's also been getting glowing reviews – if you needed another reason to tune in. So when's it out and how can you watch it? Here's what to know. What's the plot? Adapted from the book of the same name by Richard Flanagan, the show tells the story of Dorrigo Evans (Elordi), a successful Australian war veteran and surgeon who's plagued by memories of his past. We find out that he had an affair with Amy, his uncle's wife, before being shipped out as part of the Australian Imperial Force. In the Battle of Java, his regiment is captured by the Japanese and sent to work on the Burma Railway, which the Japanese built as a way to transport supplies from Thailand to Burma (now Myanmar) to eventually invade India. One in three men died building this, and the book goes into detail about the horrific fates that many of Dorrigo's fellows suffer during this period – as the 'elected' leader of his troop, he tries to protect them against violence and disease, often unsuccessfully. 'We were all in it together, so there was this great overwhelming amount of love in the whole process,,' Elordi told the Guardian about the making of the show. 'It was incredibly challenging but deeply necessary, of course … because nobody wanted to phone that in or make a mockery of it.' The book won the 2014 Booker (and was inspired by Flanagan's father's own experiences as a Japanese POW) – so we have high hopes for the series. Who's in the cast? The cast boasts some heavy hitters. Chiefs WR Rashee Rice reportedly sentenced to 5 years probation, 30 days in jail after multi-car crash in Dallas
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sentenced to five years probation and 30 days of jail time by a Dallas County judge, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The sentence is related to Rice's role in a multi-car crash that last April. Shortly after the incident, Rice's attorney confirmed that Rice was driving the Lamborghini that was involved in a hit-and-run in Dallas. Per Schefter, the 30 days of jail time can be served at any point during Rice's five years on probation. Rice received deferred adjudication, per Schefter, meaning that his case will be dismissed if he successfully completes probation. After the crash, Rice was sued for $1 million by the two people who were injured in the crash. In that lawsuit, the judge ruled in favor of the plaintiffs on Wednesday, according to Dallas County court records. As a result of the ruling, Rice will pay out $1 million to the two plaintiffs and will pay their lawyer's fees. Rice had a shortened 2025 season due to injury, going on injured reserve in early October. He underwent season-ending LCL surgery the next week. The 25-year-old receiver. participated in the Chiefs' voluntary OTAs last month, and returned to Kansas City this week for mandatory minicamp.
