Former All Blacks winger Bridge signs with Western Force
MELBOURNE - Former New Zealand winger George Bridge has signed a two-year deal with Western Force and will return to Super Rugby next season, ending a three-year stint in French rugby.
Bridge scored 12 tries in 19 tests for the All Blacks and played in the 2019 World Cup in Japan before heading abroad to play for Top 14 side Montpellier in 2022.
The 30-year-old will replace Wallabies winger Harry Potter who left the Perth-based Force to join the New South Wales Waratahs.
Bridge, who can also play fullback, was part of Scott Robertson's powerful Canterbury Crusaders from 2017-22, helping the South Island team win four Super Rugby titles and the domestic Super Rugby Aotearoa championship twice.
"George is well known to a number of people on our staff and they can't speak highly enough of his professionalism, approach to the game and his rugby knowledge," Force coach Simon Cron said in a statement on Tuesday.
"He's got a massive left foot kick. He can play multiple positions. He's a brilliant player. An amazing talent. He'll add to the guys that we have in the squad."
The Force, who have never made the playoffs in any variant of Super Rugby since joining in 2006, managed only four wins last season and finished ninth in the 11-team competition.

"You got to tip your cap sometimes," McCullum told Test Match Special after Siraj fashioned India's thrilling six-run win in the series finale on Monday. "A guy playing his fifth test match (of the series), bowling 30 overs, bowling 90 miles-an-hour in the 30th over to take five wickets to get the job done - fair play." Siraj not only survived the rigour of playing five tests in a row but was also unrelenting whenever he had the ball in his hand, regardless of the stage of the match. It prompted England batting mainstay Joe Root to call Siraj a "real warrior" while former India captain Virat Kohli singled out the bowler for his relentless aggression. "Special mention to Siraj who will put everything on the line for the team. Extremely happy for him," Kohli wrote on X. Siraj, who won the player of the match award at The Oval, did not fuss about his workload and said his "body is fine". "(Whether) you bowl the sixth over or the ninth over, I don't care," he told reporters on Monday. "I believe you bowl every ball for your country, not for yourself. I can't complain about the second and third sets.' Zverev will bid for the oddly scheduled Aug 7 final against three-time semi-finalist Karen Khachanov, who dismissed young American Alex Michelsen 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). 'It was a very close, competitive match,' Khachanov said. 'I had to come back from some tough situations. 'How you handle that mentally is important. I was glad to close it out in the second set. 'I had to try and not give him the opportunity to step in and attack; that's what I did today.' Zverev has won five of the seven matches he has played against Khachanov. LIVERPOOL – Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid has left Liverpool wanting for creativity but the signing of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz can help offset that deficiency, the English Premier League club's manager Arne Slot said. Liverpool smashed their transfer record in June to sign Wirtz and bolster their attacking options, with the German international having scored 57 goals and provided 65 assists in 197 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.
