Manchester United: Five wantaway stars excused from preseason training to secure transfer moves
Ruben Amorim's squad will reunite on Monday to prepare for their five-match preseason tour, which will be see them travel to the United States and Sweden.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, however, are not expected to report to training.
The five are all expected to leave the club this summer and have been given permission to join up late as they chase moves away from Old Trafford.
Amorim is working on a thorough squad overhaul this summer. He has already added Wolves forward Matheus Cunha to the side, and is also close to adding Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.
It was today confirmed that Cunha would don the No10 shirt in his debut campaign with United, a move seen as writing on the wall for the shirt's previous owner, Rashford.
The Briton is reportedly planning to train on Monday despite being excused. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after being dropped by Amorim, and is hoping to join a Champions League outfit this summer.
He has reportedly drawn interest from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, though United are yet to receive an offer.
The wing pairing of Sancho and Antony spent last season on loan at Chelsea and Real Betis, respectively, and met in the Conference League final. Both are now looking for a permanent home. Malacia was deployed to the Netherlands for a six-month stay with PSV Eindhoven, making eight league appearances as the club became Eredivisie champions.
Standard Sport had previously reported that, should they fail to agree a move in time, Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, and Antony would not travel to the United States with the rest of the squad, set instead for solo training at Carrington.
United will open their preseason campaign against Leeds in Sweden before facing West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton in the United States as part of the PL Summer Series. They will then face Fiorentina at Old Trafford in their final warm-up tie.

UEFA Europa League 2025/26: Key dates, match schedule & final
Following a successful launch in 2024/25, the UEFA Europa League gears up for its second season under the revamped format. In 2025/26, Europe's second-best competition returns for its 55th edition and its 17th since being rebranded from the UEFA Cup to the Europa League, with the final scheduled for May 20, 2026. UEFA has released the complete fixture schedule for the 2025/26 Europa League season, from the opening qualifying round to the title showpiece. Here's a look at all the key dates for the upcoming season of Europe's second-most prestigious club competition, along with details on how to watch the matches live. How to watch the 2025/26 Europa League season? All games in Europe's second-tier competition in the 2025/26 season will be available to watch online via Europa League live streams. When do Europa League qualifying fixtures start? A total of 53 teams will participate in Europa League qualifying, which consists of several rounds and a final play-off stage. Twelve teams will advance from the play-off round to the league phase, joining 13 clubs that enter directly into the main draw. Seven teams dropping out of the UEFA Champions League play-offs will also enter the competition – five from the Champions Path and two from the League Path. Four more teams will arrive from the Champions League third qualifying round, all from the League Path. When is the Europa League group stage draw? The 2025/26 UEFA Europa League group stage draw will take place on August 29, the day after the conclusion of the play-offs. When does the Europa League's league phase start? The 2025/26 Europa League group/league stage begins in late September, with the opening-day matches set for September 24 & 25. Pot 1 currently features five teams, including Roma, Porto, Dinamo Zagreb, Lille and Real Betis, with debutants Aston Villa seeded in Pot 2. Led by four-time Europa League winner Unai Emery, Villa are among the hottest candidates to lift the trophy despite lacking experience in the tournament. Bologna, Nottingham Forest and Go Ahead Eagles are the three remaining sides that will make their maiden Europa League appearances and will all be part of Pot 4. Last season's winners, Tottenham Hotspur, earned automatic Champions League qualification while beaten finalists, Manchester United, failed to qualify for European competitions. When does the knockout stage of the Europa League start? Similar to last season, the newly formatted knockout phase begins with a play-off round, which takes place in late February. It runs from February 19-26 before the 32 remaining teams trade tackles in the round of 16 on March 12 and 19. Teams will play the quarter-final first legs on April 9, followed by the return fixtures on April 16. The semi-finals kick off on April 30, with the second-leg clashes scheduled for May 7, 2026. When and where is the Europa League final in 2026? The 2025/26 Europa League showpiece, scheduled to take place at Besiktas Park in Istanbul on May 20, will be the first final held at the home of one of the best Turkish Super Lig clubs. Despite never hosting a major European final, the venue staged the 2019 UEFA Super Cup showdown between Liverpool and Chelsea, with the Reds winning the tie on penalties. Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas joins Pumas in Mexico after some advice from Ramos and Herrera
MEXICO CITY (AP) — When former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas got an offer to play in Mexico for UNAM Pumas, he knew who to ask for advice. The Costa Rica goalkeeper called his ex-Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos, as well as Costa Rica coach Miguel Herrera, before he eventually agreed to join Pumas in the top-tier Liga MX on a reported one-year contract. The move follows a six-month stint in Argentina with Newell's Old Boys. The 38-year-old Navas was introduced on Thursday as the Mexican side revamps its roster to try to end a 14-year spell without winning a league title. 'I'm here eager to give my all, to push myself, and to be on the pitch playing at my best,' Navas said. 'I have the mentality to make history, to be able to win a title. I believe we can achieve those goals by working with humility.' No details were given but Newell's Old Boys said it will receive $2 million as part of the deal. Ramos on Mexico Navas and Ramos played together for five seasons with Madrid, winning three Champions League titles. The pair also joined forces at Paris Saint-Germain where they were part of the team that won the Ligue 1 title in 2022. The 39-year-old Ramos signed with Mexican team Monterrey earlier this year. 'Sergio told me a little about his experience in Mexico. I know James (Rodriguez) is also here and playing at a high level,' Navas said at a press conference. 'Liga MX is growing and is very competitive, with a very good infrastructure, and I thought I'd come to a club where we can compete for titles.' James Rodriguez, who played with Navas and Ramos for four seasons with Madrid, also plays in Mexico with Leon. Pumas had already bought Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey, Colombian left back Alvaro Angulo and Ecuador midfielder Pedro Vite. Help from Herrera Navas also called Herrera, who had coached six first division teams in Mexico before he was hired as coach of the Costa Rica men's national team as it attempts to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. 'I spoke with Miguel because he knows the league and the club well, and he told me I should sign without a doubt,' Navas said. 'I'm joining a big club, and having him in the national team helps you make these decisions.' Navas also made the decision to move closer to Central America because his national team has World Cup qualifying games, starting in September, with 'Los Ticos' in Group C with Honduras, Haiti and Nicaragua. ___
