Jesurun Rak Sakyi to Rangers faces major hurdle as Crystal Palace change transfer rules

In-demand Jesurun Rak-Sakyi appears to have had the door slammed shut on a move to Rangers by Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.

The Scottish Premiership side are keen to sign the England youth international on an initial loan with a £10million option to buy.

Rangers have already seen their bid to land the wide man thrown into doubt after the 22-year-old limped off during Palace's friendly clash with Crawley Town.

And while the full extent of the injury has get to emerge, Eagles' boss Glasner has moved to close the door on any more departures ahead of the Community Shield showdown with Liverpool on August 10 - unless new faces are brought in.
He told Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung: 'Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far.
"I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year.

'As of now, I have 17 outfield players. I hope we don't lose any more.
"If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible.'

The latest set-back in the pursuit Rak-Sakyi comes after Rangers boss Russell Martin admitted he's a player both he and the club's decision makers are keen to land.
Martin, speaking to Sky Sports News last week, said: "He's a player I like. We tried to take him to Southampton, it didn't quite happen. I like him and the recruitment staff like him, but how far that's gone... I'm not too sure.

"He's a really good player. We look at all sorts of different profiles that we think can help the team, it doesn't necessarily have to be one type of profile. Players are very different.
"We just need the ones with the right mentality who are desperate to come and play here. We'll see where we end up in four weeks' time."
Since then, alternative deals for wingers have emerged with Tottenham's teenage star Mikey Moore set to join the Glasgow giants on loan.

Elijah Just off to a flyer at Motherwell as Kiwi hopes Rangers showing can be the catalyst for World Cup dream

The summer signing has made an impressive start to life with the Steelmen Elijah Just wants to shine at Motherwell this season - and cement his place in New Zealand's World Cup squad. ‌ The 25-year-old midfielder got off to a good start at Fir Park on Saturday with an excellent display in their 1-1 draw with Rangers. ‌ Just was signed by new Well boss Jens Berthel Askou this summer from Danish outfit Horsens. ‌ And he's convinced a move to the Scottish Premiership can increase his chances of going to the USA, Mexico and Canada next summer. Just scored the Kiwis' first AND last goals in their successful World Cup qualifying campaign. He's got stiff competition in New Zealand's midfield, with the likes of NAC Breda's Matthew Garbett, Nottingham Fores t's Marko Stamenic and St Etienne's Ben Old in the mix for a starting slot. ‌ But Just hopes his performances in Lanarkshire can ensure he's part of coach Darren Bazeley's final squad. He said: 'This season is obviously really important for me personally. It's one year until the World Cup and I want to put myself in the best possible position for the national team. 'I hope I can get a good run of games, play well and we'll see what happens. ‌ 'That's a nice stat to have (qualifying goals) but the current group of players we have with New Zealand is really strong. 'There are players playing all around the world, competition is really high. 'But if I can do well in the Scottish Premiership this season, it gives me the best opportunity to play. ‌ 'The World Cup was a massive motivation for me coming here, to be in that squad. 'There are good players at really good clubs around the world but this is a massive opportunity for me at Motherwell.' ‌ Motherwell were fully deserving of their point against Rangers and will probably feel they should have won their opening day fixture. Emmanuel Longelo's late equaliser cancelled out James Tavernier's opener for the visitors - but Askou's team were on top for long spells. Just was a key part of that and he enjoyed his first Premiership experience. ‌ He praised Well's bravery on the ball as they impressed against Russell Martin's side. He said: 'When you play a team like Rangers who have a lot of quality in the first game, it's important you apply yourself the way the manager wants you to. 'We did a really good job at that. The boys were very courageous so it's a step in the right direction for us. ‌ 'It was very intense, the fans were loud. When I went to warm up, I got the feeling of - this is some proper football. 'But when the game got going, I felt good and comfortable. 'As the game went on and we didn't have the equaliser after a few chances, you start to think, OK we really need something here. ‌ 'But when the goal went in, we pushed on and had another two chances at the end so we're really happy.' Askou - just like Martin at Rangers - is asking his players to take risks in possession and play out from the back. And Just said: 'Our centre-backs are so courageous. Paul McGinn hit a fake shot in our box, it went out for a corner and Rangers scored. 'But the boys just told him to keep going because that's the way we want to play and we'll stick to it. 'We know if we play with that style, we'll create chances and be a good side.'

Brendan Rodgers primed for Celtic's Champions League challenge after season-opening win

The champions needed a deflected strike from substitute Luke McCowan to edge past St Mirren with a 1-0 win as they started their Scottish Premiership title defence at Parkhead. Celtic earlier hit the frame of the goal through Benjamin Nygren, Reo Hatate and Adam Idah, and had a Callum McGregor strike disallowed for handball following a VAR intervention. But a strikeforce led by Idah inside Daizen Maeda and Yang Hyun-jun - with James Forrest and Johnny Kenny coming off the bench - looked in need of the reinforcements which Rodgers has been calling for. The Celtic manager was eager to praise his side's display and not labour that point, but fans will be keen to see new signings come in soon after Monday's Champions League play-off draw. The likes of Sturm Graz and Basel await Celtic as they discover their fate for the high-risk, high-reward games, which will take place in the final two weeks of this month. Rodgers said: 'We'll be ready for the games. Whenever they come, we'll be ready. The players are working very hard. 'They are always tense games. But we're in a good place and we'll take that game on when it comes. 'We've had a really, really good pre-season. The players are shaping up very well and are working very hard. There's real spirit and solidarity here in the team. So we look forward to that. 'We know whoever we get, it's going to be tough, but it will also be tough for them.' When asked whether their long wait for a goal against St Mirren underlined the need for more attacking options, Rodgers said: 'We created a lot. We got into a lot of really good areas and you have to give credit to the goalkeeper. The goalkeeper made some great saves. 'I think we were creative in the game, dominated the game. 'At times we moved the ball really well. At other times we could have attacked a wee bit more when we got into certain positions and been a bit more aggressive in the one-v-one moments. 'But overall, to play against that team, against that system, that's how you've got to work it and then you need a bit of quality to finish it. 'Sometimes you need a wee bit of good fortune as well. We didn't quite have that, some of them hit the post and the bar.' St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson saw plenty to encourage him. 'It was disappointing because we lost to a deflection,' he said. 'Defensively, I thought we were superb, very, very well organised. People use that as a slight against St Mirren sometimes, but that is one of the basics of management, get your team organised. 'We said we would have five or six opportunities to break and we did. Some we picked the right option, some we didn't. 'We didn't sit back the whole game, we pressed. I think we caused Celtic problems at times. 'But they have a heck of a lot of quality. If you look at the substitutes they are bringing on in comparison to ours, then it makes it a tough task.'
