'Dynamic pricing is scourge on music': TD calls for end to ticket price gouging
Music lovers were left stunned after being forced to shell out around €400 for a ticket the band's Dublin concerts after tickets went on sale last year, despite standing tickets initially being advertised at €86.50 plus booking fees.
Speaking ahead of the two sold-out Oasis shows, Labour Party spokesperson on Culture, Robert O'Donoghue, recalled the outrageous price gouging allowed by Ticketmaster this time last year.
'Dynamic pricing is a scourge on modern music, sport and cultural ticket purchases,' Deputy O'Donoghue said.
'Since Ticketmaster introduced the practice in 2022, fans and spectators have seen sudden price increases, sometimes of up to 500 per cent, of already expensive ticket prices.
"While there are excuses made that this practice falls to event organisers, when Ticketmaster has a near monopoly on ticket selling, they are ultimately the ones in charge of allowing such price hikes to happen.
'This is leading us down a path where only the very well-off can afford to go to a gig without putting themselves under severe financial strain.
"Minister for Enterprise Peter Burke has stated to me in a parliamentary question that he is awaiting the results of the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC)'s investigation on the matter of dynamic pricing, but the evidence is already clear in the bank balance of anyone who bought an Oasis ticket.
"Last year, Government introduced the Sale of Tickets (Cultural, Entertainment, Recreational and Sporting Events) (Amendment) Bill 2024 to ensure these rip-off ticket prices do not happen again, but we haven't seen anything of it since.
"I am calling on Government to progress this legislation to tackle rip-off ticket prices. The time for action is now."

They saw workers desperately using equipment to free Ronnie, who was trapped in a six-foot hole filled with fast-moving dirt. When crews took over, they noticed that as more dirt was being pulled out, more collapsed inward. Sensitive infrastructure on the site - including gas lines - meant crews had to use specialised equipment. Advertisement Tragically, within half an hour, the rescue turned into a gruelling 13-hour-long recovery mission. At around 2am on July 29, crews retrieved his body from the trench. Melissa Prado, the mum of two of Ronnie's children, told ABC15 News that the family is shocked. She said: "My daughter is really torn up. She spends almost every day with him. She's a little distraught, and my son's angry. Advertisement "They're not really coping too well. His hobby was his children.' Melissa said she is setting aside questions about what happened on that day. Nate wrote in a tribute posted on Facebook: 'Ronnie was a loving father and a loyal friend - brutally honest, endlessly caring, and unforgettable.' The state's worker-safety agency, ADOSH, told ABC15 that an investigation has been launched into whether there were safety violations at the site. Just days later, Fred Gonzalez and his 18-year-old son were working in a trench just feet from the one that collapsed after being called to inspect nearby piping. Fred told local outlet AZ Central: 'It definitely feels eerie. We all are involved in the underground industry. "The trench they were working in was shored up with a metal box-like structure. It comes as a child died after becoming trapped in a storm drain during flash floods while playing outside with friends. Mason Kearns, 13, from Mount Airy, Maryland, was swept into the pipe on July 31 - just 20 feet from his home - after being caught in strong floodwaters.

A man has died after falling during an Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium in London . In a statement the Metropolitan Police said: 'A man – aged in his 40s – was found with injuries consistent with a fall. 'He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. 'The stadium was busy and we believe it is likely a number of people witnessed the incident, or may knowingly or unknowingly have caught it on mobile phone video footage. 'If you have any information that could help us to confirm what happened, please call 101.' A witness told the Daily Mail: 'It was horrendous. 'The guy fell from a balcony. Paramedics came rushing over. There was a lot of screaming and shouting. 'It was a big fall. God knows how it happened. It was so tragic. I don't know how on Earth it happened. 'It was heartbreaking. He was only young.' The fall happened during the latest in a run of stadium shows for the band's sell-out Live '25 reunion tour – their first since splitting in 2009. Wembley Stadium said their concert on Sunday night would still be going ahead. A spokesperson said: 'Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London ambulance service and the police attended to a concertgoer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall. 'Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers. The highest stands in the 90,000-seat venue are some 170ft above the ground. Police and paramedics rushed to the gig but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The brothers said they were "shocked and saddened" to hear about the fan's death. In a statement released today, they said: 'We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. "Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.' One fan, who was sitting in a lower tier, described watching medics try to revive the tragic fan after he hit the concrete. She wrote: 'I was directly underneath in section 211. At first glance I thought it was a coat falling from the above tier but then I looked and saw the bloke on the concrete. "It was horrific to see.' The Met Police confirmed that officers at Wembley responded to reports that a man had been injured at 10.19pm, where they found the casualty with 'injuries consistent with a fall'. They urged anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have unknowingly caught it on their mobile phone to get in touch. The police are expected to inform the Health and Safety Executive which could launch a probe into the death. A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said: "Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London Ambulance Service and the police attended to a concert goer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall. "Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. "Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers. "The Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them. "Tonight's Oasis concert will go ahead as planned." Saturday's gig was the fourth of seven London shows on Oasis' blockbuster reunion tour. The band crashed ticket sites when they announced they were making a comeback last year - as more than 14 million fans tried to secure a seat at the highly-anticipated gigs. Last month Liam and Noel reunited on stage in Cardiff for the first time since a backstage bust-up broke up the band 16 years ago. The Britpop icons returned to their hometown of Manchester for five dates in July. They performed a 23-song setlist of classic hits, including Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger and Live Forever to a roaring crowd of 80,000 people at Heaton Park. They will head to America later this month before returning to London for two more gigs in September.
