The very first thing I saw in today's grid was the word PHOTO, but when it didn't turn blue I thought we must be looking for some other art-based topic. Then I saw the word EDITOR and put the pair of words together and landed today's spangram.
From here it was a matter of thinking of as many photo-editing words as I could and then finding them on the board. FILTER and CROP came first, as they are my two most-used tools.
All of this has reminded me that, being something of a fat-fingered snapper, the key thing I need to do with my photo library on my phone is to delete all the many shots I have of the floor, my hand or the inside of my pockets. No amount of photo editing can fix them.

Travis and Jason Kelce's dad's partner Maureen Maguire dead at 74
NEW YORK — The Kelce family is mourning the loss of Maureen Anne Maguire, who was the girlfriend of Travis and Jason Kelce's father, Ed. The dad of the NFL stars confirmed the news over the weekend, sharing an obituary to his Facebook page that revealed she 'passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones' and described her as a 'devoted mother.' 'Maureen found joy in life's simple pleasures,' the post read. 'She loved the beach, especially the shore, and had a deep affection for dogs.' The obituary also said that Maguire developed a love for football and prioritized 'every opportunity to enjoy life.' 'She also grew an unexpected love for football later in life, sharing many laughs and adventures with her beloved friend Ed Kelce and her loyal dog Butch,' the obituary continued. 'Together, they traveled often and attended football games and concerts, and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.' In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Ed shared that Maguire was also getting to know his son Travis' girlfriend, Taylor Swift. The father of two uploaded a sweet photo of himself, Maguire, and Swift all smiles while at a Kansas City Chiefs game supporting the star tight end. Maguire's obituary included funeral details as well a request that people donate to the Penn Heart Transplant Fund, which 'provides support to individuals in financial need receiving heart transplants.' Maguire's cause of death was not shared. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, and her sister and brother. ____

Amazon's latest move spells trouble for audio-based podcasting
Amazon is gearing up for a significant restructuring of Wondery—the podcast studio behind popular shows like Scamfluencers, Dr. Death, and Business Wars —and it might be a signal that the podcasting industry is shifting to more video-centric formats. Wondery was founded in 2016 as a studio dedicated to spotlighting long-form, narrative-based podcasts (think stories and formats along the lines of This American Life 's iconic Serial). It was acquired by Amazon in 2021 at the height of the pandemic-induced podcast boom for a reported $300 million. Now, Wondery's brand and existing shows will be shuffled off into larger Amazon products as its CEO Jen Sargent and around 110 employees are let go from the company. A recent analysis from the analytics firm Grand View Research shows that the global podcasting market size was estimated at $30.72 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $131.13 billion by 2030. But while podcasting is still on an upward trajectory, the way that fans consume podcasts is clearly shifting: Now, listeners are turning to podcasts that also include a video component, with popular podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience and Call Her Daddy increasingly relying on repostable video formats. 'The podcast landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years,' Steve Boom, Amazon's vice president of audio, Twitch and games, wrote in a memo to Wondery staff viewed by Fast Company. 'The rise of video has also blurred the lines on what it means to be a podcast creator.' Bad news for audio-only podcasts In an initial report on August 4, Bloomberg claimed that Amazon was planning to fully shutter Wondery. However, Amazon has since clarified that it is not closing down the brand, and instead plans to keep at least some of its properties afloat under a new structure, but things are changing. The team responsible for Wondery's narrative podcast series, including Dr. Death, Business Wars, and American Scandal, will now report to Amazon's Audible podcast vertical. Meanwhile, celebrity-led podcasts including Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert and Jason and Travis Kelce's New Heights will join a new organization called 'Creator Services' under the Amazon umbrella. 'This new team will continue to operate our creator-led podcast studio under the Wondery brand, working with a select number of top creators to drive scaled listenership and unlock broader and long-lasting relationships across Amazon,' Boom wrote in the staff memo. In response to Fast Company 's request for more details on whether any Wondery shows will be canceled, and Amazon spokesperson shared, 'We're still finalizing content distribution details for specific shows, and will share updates once decisions are made.' On the reasoning behind the restructuring, they added, 'The podcast landscape has evolved significantly in the past few years, particularly with the rise of video-forward, creator-led content. These changes reflect that evolution and will streamline how Wondery integrates further into Amazon.' The video-based podcast evolution is having ripple effects across the entire industry. Currently, YouTube is the number one place that podcasts are consumed, topping one billion total podcast views per month this February. This year, Spotify picked up on the trend by leaning hard into its video podcasting arm, taking cues from social media in its UX design. Netflix that it may make a move into video podcasting.

20 Years Later, I'm Still Invested in the Moto Style From Supercross
Cinemaphiles may scoff at this next statement, but sometimes (often), I enjoy watching movies purely for the visuals—meaning, I could care less about the actual plot, character development, or big, climactic ending. Can't a movie just be fun to look at? Not everything needs to be as masterfully-written as Citizen Kane or The Godfather. Specifically, I love seeing the unsung fashion in B-movies. Films that were critically-panned at the time, but feature a killer wardrobe nonetheless. For instance: 20 years ago today, one such feature film—Supercross—made its debut on the big screen; I still find its edgy racing style compelling today. Should you care about the actual plot, I will give you the abbreviated version: Following the suspicious death of their father, brothers K.C. (Steve Howey) and Trip (Mike Vogel) encourage each other to get back on their bikes, and take part in the Las Vegas Motocross Championships. There's good ol' fashioned sibling rivalry, camaraderie, and plenty of high-paced vroom-vroom bike racing scenes. But for me, I have long watched the movie purely for the fashions alone. The moto outfits, brought to life by costume designer Elaine Montalvo, completely steal the show.
