
Music Meets Fashion supports American Diabetes Assn. in Santa Ana
According to the American Diabetes Assn., more than 2 million of those living with diabetes are dealing with Type 1, a condition in which the body does not produce the insulin necessary for regulating blood sugar. Although the condition is not uncommon, Royale noted in a statement that there isn't much awareness about what life is like for diabetics.
'No one talks about how you live with diabetes, they only talk about the severe complications from having it,' Royale said.

In 2017, the singer/songwriter created Music Meets Fashion with her late co-producer, Jamal Parker. The event brings fashion designers, models and recording artist together for a good cause: raising awareness of diabetes while also inspiring others who are living with it. It is also a way for Royale to continue to honor Parker, who died of complications from the disease.
'Music has been my outlet and my therapy,' Royale said. 'It's also been my stage to create awareness and uplift others. I want people to know they can keep dreaming, no matter the obstacles.'
Presented by Royale's independent label, Royale Records, on Aug. 9 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Plug in Santa Ana, the event will include the live debut of Royale's new single, 'Destiny,' produced in collaboration with Lorie V. Moore.
Hosted by comedian Nicky Simone and RJ 'Poloman' Johnson, performances from recording artists J.T. Beatz, Dex Elliot Berkley the Artist and Kijafa are also planned. Attendees can look forward to Moore's DJ debut too.
For the fashion portion of Music Meets Fashion, the work of visionaries like Mexican American couture designer Will Franco and body positive swimwear pioneer Andrea 'Cherri' Dorsey will be featured in a runway show. Other participating designers include the Jesse J Collection, Black Rose, Sheek Boutique, One World Peace, Keosha Piper, Cristina Tenille and Michelle Stevenson's Mood Art Collection.
Doors will open at 2 p.m. for VIP ticket holders, who will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, an open bar and swag bags ahead of general admission entry at 3 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to the American Diabetes Assn., which supports research, education and advocacy in the fight against diabetes.
Anita M. Dominguez, executive director of the Southern California American Diabetes Assn., said the organization is honored to be benefit of the Music Meets Fashion event.
'Annyett's journey and voice bring much-needed visibility and inspiration to the millions impacted by this disease,' Dominguez said.
The association is comprised of a large network of nearly 565,000 volunteers, caregivers, health care professionals and about 350 staff members.
The creative celebration merges Royale's passions, while allowing her to use her musical talents with inspiring intention.
'Music Meets Fashion is where art and advocacy walk the same runway,' said Royale. 'It's glamorous, it's powerful and it's deeply personal. It's bigger than the music.'
'Music Meets Fashion' will take place on Aug. 9 at the Plug,1950 E. 17th Street in Santa Ana from 3 to 7 p.m. for general admission ticket holders, while VIP ticket holders can enjoy early entry at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $49.87 and are available on Eventbrite.

Paramount, Skydance expected to close deal on Aug. 7
Paramount and Skydance announced Friday that, with the Trump administration's approval, the highly anticipated merger between the entertainment giants is expected to take place next month. The Aug. 7 date, unveiled in a press release, comes after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Thursday allowed Skydance's acquisition of Paramount to move forward after the merger was first proposed last year. FCC Chair Brendan Carr in announcing the decision said he welcomed Skydance's commitment to remaining 'unbiased' in its journalism and willingness to promote 'a diversity of viewpoints across the political and ideological spectrum.' 'Americans no longer trust the legacy national news media to report fully, accurately, and fairly,' Carr added. 'It is time for a change.' The move caps off months of turmoil between Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, and President Trump. Trump sued CBS's '60 Minutes' last year after he argued an interview it aired with former Vice President Harris was altered in her favor during the 2024 presidential election cycle. While the company fought the claims, including releasing a full transcript from the episode, it ultimately settled with the administration for $16 million. Those funds are set to go to Trump's eventual presidential library. The news outlet has also faced criticism in recent days after CBS made the decision to sunset 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' next May, after more than 30 years on air. Paramount said the move was based on finances, but critics have argued the settlement and Skydance deal were likely involved — and bribery allegations have been floated. Comedian Stephen Colbert, who has hosted the show since 2015, has been openly critical of the merger. He added that 'one key mistake' the network made when moving forward with the plan is that 'they left me alive.' 'Go f--- yourself.' That was just one of the many 'witticisms' Stephen Colbert had for President Donald Trump and his "Late Show" audience on July 21, his first since breaking the news the show was coming to an end. Not in a year. Not after a farewell tour. Next May. No replacement. No streaming continuation. Yes, CBS made what it called an "agonizing" business decision to cancel the most-watched show at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT, just days after Colbert mocked the network's parent company for a $16 million payout to Trump. Colbert thanked CBS but also criticized its anonymous leak to the New York Post that the show loses between $40 million and $50 million a year amid falling ratings and advertising for late-night TV shows. On the one hand, you have those arguing this is simply a case of corporate cost cutting and media evolving. While others are raising the alarm this is a political decision disguised as a financial one. Both can be – and are – true at the same time. Before Colbert called his bosses' bosses' settlement with Trump a 'big fat bribe," his "Late Show" monologues have taken direct aim – nightly – at authoritarianism, misinformation, corporate cowardice and Trump for nearly a decade. One could even argue that he owes his success to Trump, because during his initial months at 'Late Show,' Colbert faltered in the ratings. In 2017, however, he began to see a surge of success as he got to mock Trump 1.0 in his monologues. Soon his show was No. 1 in late night, a ranking it held for nine straight TV seasons while simultaneously racking up 33 consecutive Emmy nominations. Colbert became a go-to voice for Trump-resistant Americans who enjoyed their political despair with a side of satire. In many ways, he took up the mantle left by his old boss, Jon Stewart, offering comedic catharsis in chaotic times. Despite this context, CBS claimed the decision to cancel was purely financial and 'not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.' According to the company, the show had become too expensive to produce amid shrinking ad revenues and changing viewer habits. Opinion: Critics said Trump would ruin America. Six months in, he's proving them wrong. CBS is not wrong: Late-night advertising has by some estimates dropped by half since 2018. Anecdotally, I watch a lot of late-night viral clips on my phone, but I can't tell you the last time I watched any late-night television live on my television. But not everyone's buying the "it's just business" line. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, called for scrutiny while Sen. Adam Schiff, D-California, who taped the July 17 show when Colbert broke the news, echoed the concern. The Writers Guild of America issued a statement suggesting the move raises 'significant concerns' about political retribution. There are countless scathing opinion columns, letters to the editor and social media posts containing similar sentiments. Meanwhile, Trump gloated. He posted on Truth Social, "I absolutely love that Colbert' got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next." CBS is just one part of a massive merger between Paramount Global and Skydance. After Colbert's cancelation, the deal received approval from the Federal Communications Commission. The chairman of the FCC, Brendan Carr, was appointed by Trump. If you need a clue about whether his loyalties lie with the Constitution or the current occupant of the White House, Carr swapped out an American flag lapel pin for a gold medallion in the shape of Trump's profile just months ago. When corporations' incentives line up so conveniently with silencing dissent, we should be alarmed. Because both things can be true: The economics of late-night television, and the cultural influence of it, has been changing. And the timing of the settlement combined with the end of the "Late Show" is deeply concerning. Here is how it appears: The Trump administration made it clear that certain media deals wouldn't get approved unless certain broadcasting decisions were made. That would be the government using its power to punish dissent and influence private business decisions in order for political favor. In his 2022 Mark Twain Prize acceptance speech, Jon Stewart warned, 'When a society is under threat, comedians are the ones who get sent away first. It's just a reminder to people that democracy is under threat. Authoritarians are the threat to comedy, to art, to music, to thought, to poetry, to progress, to all those things.' That's the part that should concern us. The question isn't what happens to Colbert (he will be fine). It's what happens to us: the audience, the public, the people who depend on sharp, fearless voices to cut through the fog.
