Karim Shaaban's 'Ya Hammam' — Upper Egypt Folklore meets the Digital Underground
Egyptian director and creative force Karim Shaaban has just launched his latest musical project, "Ya Hammam,' now available on YouTube, radio, and all digital streaming platforms. The song is distributed by Digital Sound.
This unique track blends Egyptian folklore with electronic music, drawing from Karim's deeply personal and emotional vision of Egypt. The song also opens his short film "I DON'T CARE IF THE WORLD COLLAPSES", which had its world premiere at the 2024 Cleveland International Film Festival, marking a seamless artistic fusion between sound and image in building a singular world.
In crafting "Ya Hammam", Karim collaborated with artists Sayed Rekaby and Fadi Garas. Together, they fused the rich vocal tones of Upper Egypt's Jaafari folkloric tradition with contemporary electronic soundscapes, resulting in a sonic experience that seamlessly merges nostalgia with modernity.
The music video for "Ya Hammam", directed by Karim Shaaban himself, bears the signature visual language that has defined his previous works — a portrayal of Egypt as he experiences it.
The short film "I DON'T CARE IF THE WORLD COLLAPSES", starring actress Salma Abu Deif, explores the quiet yet intense conflict that arises when professional obligations collide with personal emergencies. Rather than dramatizing the struggle, the film reflects on it subtly and introspectively.
This introspective vision is also evident in Karim Shaaban's debut feature film "6 Days", starring Ahmed Malek and Aya Samaha, and written by Wael Hamdy. The film takes the form of a silent visual diary, expressing Karim's artistic philosophy that true beauty lies in fleeting, often overlooked moments.

Tamer Hosny Announces Release Date for Album "Lena Maad"
Yara Sameh Egyptian singer-actor Tamer Hosny announced Sunday that his upcoming studio album, "Lena Maad," will be released on Thursday, July 10. Hosny released his last album 'Hormone ElSaada' in 2023. Hosny, born on August 16, 1977, began his career when renowned TV presenter Salma Al Shamaa gave him his lifetime opportunity to perform at the Cairo Opera House. During his performance, he worked alongside other rising talents including, Sherine Mohamed Abdel-Wahab; the performance was attended by renowned producer Nasr Mahrous. Ever since, Hosny worked closely with Mahrous and released his first album, which consequently achieved great success and opened the gates of stardom and fame, not only in singing but also in the entertainment industry. He made his acting debut in the 2004 film 'Halet Hob', co-starring Hany Salama, Hend Sabry, and others. Hosny is known for singing 'Kol Mara', 'Bent El Eh' and 'Aktar Haga', and for his roles in films such as 'Omar and Salma' and 'Captin Hema'. Mohamed Henedy and Mona Zaki's 'Al Gawahergy' Gets New Release Date
Yara Sameh Egyptian stars Mohamed Henedy and Mona Zaki's upcoming film 'Al Gawahergy' has been set for a theatrical release on July 30 following a series of delays. The film's journey to the big screen had been a bumpy ride that dates back to 2022. It was initially set to hit the cinemas during the Eid al-Fitr movie marathon in 2022 but got postponed indefinitely before landing an August 2024 release window, only to be delayed to the Eid al-Adha movie marathon in 2025 and then to July 30. 'Al Gawahergy' also boasts a cast that includes Lebleba, Ahmed El Saadany, Tara Emad, Bassem Samra, and more. Written by Islam Khairy and directed by Omar Taher, 'Al Gawahergy' depicts the crises of marriage in a comedic setting. The film witnesses the first collaboration between Henedy and Zaki after 23 years. They last starred together in the 1998 film 'Saidi at the American University'. Henedy and Zaki are currently busy working on their latest films, respectively. The veteran comedian is set to star in the action-comedy film "Sterlini' (The Sterling). The project reunites Henedy with "Marei El Brimo" scriptwriter Ihab Blibl. Directed by Hussein El Menbawy, the pic features Henedy presenting action to his scenes for the first time. "El Sterling', a significant portion of the film shot in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Zaki is starring in the Umm Kulthum biopic "El Set" and the comedy film "Rizk Al Hibl". Marwan Hamed is directing the biopic from a script by Ahmed Mourad. The film comes as part of the "Big Time" Investment Fund that aims to raise the quality of Arabic content and filmmaking. The fund is sponsored by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Culture.
