Hit-and-run pickup driver destroys front of downtown Anchorage dumpling eatery
An unoccupied blue Dodge Ram "had collided with and come to rest inside" Anchorage Pel'meni as reported just before 3:30 a.m., according to a report provided by an Anchorage Police Department spokesman.
Witnesses described seeing a man about 6-foot-3, between 25 and 30 years old and wearing a light-colored jacket and jeans, flee on foot immediately after the crash, the report said.
An employee inside the building at the time who suffered an eye injury was treated by medics, police said.
Officers learned a white Ford F-150 may also have been involved in the incident, according to the report. Police didn't immediately answer questions asking how that truck may be connected to the building damage.
No arrests had been made as of Monday morning.
Anchorage Pel'meni opened in 2022 after running a popular location in Juneau for years. The restaurants serve Russian dumplings especially popular with late-night clientele.
Restaurant owner Mark Moore said in a message that the establishment was "thankful it's not worse."
The restaurant has been boarded up to keep out the weather and Moore said a structural inspection was planned Monday.
It's possible the restaurant may put up a temporary wall and serve takeout customers if building managers approve, but the situation is preliminary, he said. "We are just starting to look and see how extensive it is."

Democratic lawmakers have accused the administration of seeking to distract attention from the Jeffrey Epstein case. Conservative media and influencers have criticized how Trump, Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel have handled the case and demanded the release of more documents. Democrats contend that Gabbard's talk of a treasonous Obama-era plot is patently false and a diversion. A 2020 bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee review contradicted the idea that there was a conspiracy by Obama administration officials against Trump, finding significant evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Then-Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., the acting chair of the committee at the time, signed off on the report. The committee found no evidence of "collusion" between the Trump campaign and Russia, Rubio said in a statement at the time. But he added: "What the Committee did find however is very troubling. The plans for a grand jury investigation are the latest in a series of actions by the Trump administration apparently designed to rewrite the history of the 2016 election. The grand jury probe marks another escalation of the Trump administration's focus on allegations of wrongdoing by Obama officials, including the former president. 'Following the compelling case outlined by DNI Tulsi Gabbard, which exposed clear and blatant weaponization by corrupt intelligence officials acting at the behest of the Democrat Party and likely former President Obama, the Administration remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation,' White House spokesperson Harrison Fields said in a statement. 'This effort aims to provide the American people with the truth about the extent to which former government officials worked to sabotage the Trump administration and undermine the will of the American people in a clear attempt to subvert our Constitutional Republic,' Fields added. Fox News first reported that Bondi had directed the start of a grand jury investigation. The documents Gabbard has released do little to suggest wrongdoing by the intelligence community in seeking to investigate Russia's efforts to influence the 2016 contest. Gabbard and other officials have pushed back on established findings from the intelligence community and a bipartisan Senate panel that Russia showed a preference for then-candidate Donald Trump in the 2016 election. Gabbard has alleged that Obama officials manipulated intelligence to harm Trump. Gabbard referred the documents to the Justice Department and FBI for potential criminal referrals, though the director repeatedly dodged when pressed on what crime former President Obama could be charged with. Obama's office issued a rare public statement calling the document drops a 'distraction' as Trump faced calls to release information about the prosecution of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. James Clapper, who served as director of national intelligence under Obama and has faced intense criticism from Trump officials, has called the allegations against him 'patently false and unfounded.'
