In addition to his good play, Humphries ' strange drinking technique caught fans' eyes.
During the contest, the Berkshire ace seemed determined not to use his hands while sipping his water, bending down to take a drink.
Quizzed about the incident after his win, Humphries said: "Did that get shown on camera? It was… my hands were so sweaty, and I didn't want to touch the glass because it was so, like..."
The world No1 added: "There was so much moisture that I was like, if I pick it up with my hands, it might make…
"Look, it's very hot out here. It's really, really tough. It's like being abroad when you're on holiday.
"But you have to make the best of a bad situation, and I thought if I don't touch the glass, I won't add that moisture to my hands, and it worked!
"I didn't know you were going to catch it on camera. I was hoping I did it discreetly, but yeah, I was just trying to help myself a bit."
Responding to Humphries' gesture, one fan wrote on X: "Could just use his left hand to pick op the glass."
While a second joked: "Gonna have to change his nickname to 'Wet hand' Luke now."

RICHARD KAY reveals how he accidentally 'ruined' Queen Elizabeth's birthday surprise... Find out how in the Palace Confidential newsletter

Due to the nature of her role, Queen Elizabeth II was rarely surprised when it came to her birthday. Almost every year, the beloved monarch would head to the luxurious Ritz Hotel in the heart of London for supper. But her children - namely Prince Edward - were determined to push the boat out (literally) for her 70th birthday in 1996. A plan was hatched for the Queen, Prince Philip and other members of the Royal Family to travel via the River Thames to the famous Waterside Inn at Bray in Berkshire. Unfortunately, Richard Kay, the Daily Mail's Editor-at-Large, unknowingly broke the story before Her Majesty could be treated to the unexpected meal. 'There was uproar at Buckingham Palace,' Richard confides in this week's Palace Confidential newsletter. 'I was accused of spoiling a surprise party, and told that the Queen, because of the very nature of her role, got very few unexpected treats and I had ruined one.' Not long afterwards, Richard was reporting on one of Her Majesty's overseas tours during which she hosted a garden party. But, he recalls, he was quietly asked to avoid the Queen – because she was still a little sore about the 'party episode'. Doing as he was told, Richard made himself busy by talking to a group of the Queen's ladies-in-waiting. The following day, one of them let it slip that Prince Philip had spotted this encounter and told them off for talking to 'that bloody man'. Both Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson were accused of leaking the story to Richard - but he insists they were blameless. Indeed, the truth behind where the story came from is even more unbelievable. I was a bit nervous and it's on to my third game here, I've won two of them."I want to get back on stage and right now I can't wait to be in the quarter-final."Van Gerwen made a flying start against Northern Ireland's Rock, taking the opening leg with a 150 checkout before surging into a 5-1 narrowed the game to 6-4 at the second break only for Van Gerwen to move into a 9-6 lead and seemingly on the brink of Rock fought back again and the momentum to swung in his favour when a superb 152 checkout cut Van Gerwen's lead down to one, before winning the next two legs to take the lead for the first Gerwen needed a 138 checkout to stay in the game and make it 10-10, but Rock held his nerve in a tense tie break."I kept my emotions, I think, throughout the game. In the middle part of the game I felt like I couldn't miss," he told Sky Sports. "I put Chris under a lot of pressure. I think he still played pretty decent in patches."I think early on we were both flying and I was just pipping him on a couple of legs, probably disheartened him a little bit. It's a good game for me."Andrew Gilding set up a meeting with Littler after the former UK Open champion beat Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode 11-5 to reach the last eight of the World Matchplay for the second successive year.
