Tee times: Shane Lowry paired with world No.1 Scottie Scheffler at 2025 Open
Lowry will tee off at 10.09am on Thursday and he will have world No.1 and three-time major winner Scottie Scheffler and two-time major champion Collin Morikawa for company as he attempts to repeat his Open success here six years ago.
McIlroy goes out much later in the day with two-time US PGA champion Justin Thomas and England's Tommy Fleetwood completing the trio. There isn't any doubt but that this will attract the most footfall on the first day, not least given McIlroy's struggles here in 2019.
Padraig Harrington will hit the first shot of this 153rd Open at 6.35 in the morning.
Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin, a Royal Portrush club member, and Nicolas Hojgaard will be rubbing the sleep from their eyes at the same time.
Darren Clarke, the 2011 champion who lives just down the road, gets underway at 7.52 am with David Riley of the USA and Australia's Lucas Herbert.
The other main group of note is the 9.58 collective of reigning champion Xander Schauffele, US PGA champion JJ Spaun and two-time major champion Jon Rahm.

Manchester United v Leeds live score updates from the pre-season friendly
Manchester United begin their pre-season campaign on Saturday when they take on Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm, with kick-off scheduled for 2pm Irish time. It is the second time in three years that the Red Devils are opening their pre-season campaign against their Premier League counterparts in Scandinavia, after beating the Whites 2-0 in Norway in 2023. Head coach Ruben Amorim has taken a 29-man squad with him to the Swedish capital and could hand out unofficial debuts to summer signings Diego Leon and Matheus Cunha this afternoon. The latter arrived from Wolves for £62.5million last month and will be keen to make his mark on United's attack from the off. He scored 17 goals across all competitions last season. Amorim could potentially deploy two entirely different XIs in either half. The travelling squad is made up of a mixture of first-team regulars and a crop of youngsters. Meanwhile, Leeds will visit Dublin next month as part of their pre-season schedule, taking on AC Milan at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, August 9. You can follow updates from Manchester United v Leeds United live via our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News below. 12:15 Samuel Luckhurst As largely meaningless as pre-season games are, the players can't treat them as such. They can feel like they're in a lose-lose situation as if they don't perform, there's criticism and if they do perform, the caveat is that it is only pre-season. But Rasmus Hojlund needs to score today. He was actually worse in the post-season tour than he was during last season and it could not have ended early enough for him. His best contribution in the final five months of 2024-25 was to draw that panicky foul from Emiliano Martinez on the final day. Hojlund scored in Scandinavia back at his old club Copenhagen in the 2023 Champions League group stage and he needs to regain faith from his manager and supporters. We can dismiss pre-season form and results but the players can't and Hojlund has to turn up today. (Image: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images.) 12:00 George Smith Predicting exactly how a team will line up for a pre-season friendly is like trying to locate a needle in a haystack. It is a near impossible task as head coaches use pre-season, quite rightly, to experiment and rotate. There is a good chance Ruben Amorim will field two different XIs in either half this afternoon. Nevertheless, I have had a stab at picking a predicted XI. You can discover it by clicking here. (Image: Zohaib Alam - MUFC/Manchester United via Getty Images.) 11:55 Samuel Luckhurst The way Erik ten Hag operated, players would get only 45 minutes in these opening friendlies as they built up their match fitness. The large squad United have taken to Stockholm would suggest Ruben Amorim will do similarly, unless some are robust enough to last the best part of an hour. Somebody wrote it was "fascinating" that Ethan Williams has travelled. It really isn't. Amorim could field two XIs, a couple of players are injured and there are five in the bomb squad, so United need the numbers. Williams seemed to do well at Cheltenham and United are not short of academy anoraks overhyping young players. It was this time last year that Joe Hugill scored a nice goal against Rangers at Murrayfield. He ended the season on the bench for Carlisle as they were relegated to the National League. (Image: Manchester United) 11:45 Steven Railston United played Rosenborg in Norway for their pre-season friendly in Scandinavia last summer and they were defeated 1-0 after an injury time goal. Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jonny Evans started the game alongside several youngsters, with the reminder of the squad on international duty. Wholesale changes were made at half-time and an academy side was fielded for the second half. Swedish fans should at least see first-team players on the pitch for the majority of the contest today, which is what they pay for, but it will be interesting to see which youngsters can make their mark. (Image: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images.) 11:30 George Smith This afternoon's clash with Leeds United will mark the first of five friendlies United will navigate this pre-season. After facing the Whites in Stockholm this afternoon, head coach Ruben Amorim and his players will briefly return to England before jetting off to the United States for their official pre-season tour on Tuesday. United will participate in the Premier League Summer Series while out in the US, facing West Ham United, Bournemouth and Everton. They will conclude their pre-season schedule with a game against Italian club Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday, August 9. (Image: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images.) 11:20 Steven Railston United were confident their fresh bid for Bryan Mbeumo would be accepted and the news of their breakthrough in negotiations with Brentford after over a month of discussions has been welcome news. Mbeumo is expected to undergo his medical this weekend, which means he'll travel to the USA for the pre-season tour of the States. Mbeumo should be a superb addition and it will be genuinely exciting to see him alongside Matheus Cunha. Mbeumo and Cunha were two of the finest players in the Premier League last season and they will add goals and creativity to the dressing room. (Image:.) 11:10 Steven Railston The JD Sports shop in Manchester Airport had placed Leeds shirts at the front and centre of the shop. That wasn't the case when I flew from the airport just a few weeks ago and it was clearly a deliberate ploy to market to travelling Leeds fans. There were a few club shirts on my flight and I spotted a Leeds supporter walking alongside a United fan this morning. You certainly wouldn't see that in England. The Premier League is a better place when Leeds are competing in the top flight and United fans will be looking forward to the trip to Elland Road in January. (Image: Malcolm Bryce/Leeds United via Getty Images.) 11:00 Steven Railston I arrived in Stockholm yesterday evening, quickly dropped my bag at the hotel and travelled to meet members of Red Army Stockholm, who organised an event ahead of the opening pre-season friendly against Leeds. Jesper Blomqvist and Ronny Johnsen spoke to supporters in a Q&A session and signed autographs. The bar was rammed and fans from across Scandinavia were present. A few Mancunians were also in attendance. United have brilliant support in Scandinavia and today's game is supposed to be sold out. (Image: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images.) 10:45 George Smith If you happened to have missed the news yesterday, United are closing in on the signing of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo. United have finally reached an agreement with the Londoners to sign the attacker in a deal that could be worth up to £70million. It is understood United will pay a fixed price of £65m and up to another £5m in add-ons. United are hoping to get the deal wrapped up in time for him to travel to the United States for the pre-season tour alongside the rest of the squad on Tuesday. Click here to read more. (Image:.) 10:30 George Smith Every United supporter, either inside the Strawberry Arena or watching via MUTV, will be itching to catch a first glimpse of Matheus Cunha this afternoon. The Brazilian, who arrived from Wolves last month, is in contention to make his unofficial United debut after being included in head coach Ruben Amorim's 29-man travelling squad. Exactly how United will line-up this afternoon remains to be seen, but it is highly likely Cunha will feature at some stage. He scored 17 goals in all competitions for Wolves last season and he will be eager to make his mark in United colours as quickly as possible. (Image: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images.) 10:15 George Smith Yesterday, United confirmed head coach Ruben Amorim had selected a 29-man travelling squad for today's pre-season opener against Leeds United in Stockholm. As expected, the squad is made up of a mixture of first-team regulars and a crop of youngsters. New signings Diego Leon and Matheus Cunha have made the cut. However, Harry Amass was left out amid the expectation that he is set to head out on loan. Andre Onana, Lisandro Martinez and Joshua Zirkzee also missed out. Click here to discover the full squad. (Image: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images.) 10:00 George Smith This afternoon's pre-season friendly between United and Leeds United will be available on MUTV. Coverage will begin at 1pm BST, offering an hour's worth of pre-match build-up ahead of kick-off at 2pm. Coverage will conclude at 4.30pm. If you do not have an MUTV subscription, you can follow LIVE text updates with us on this dedicated matchday blog. (Image: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images.)
