Jake Paul Getting Roasted After Fight Versus Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Paul was clearly in control for much of the fight while Chavez wasn't very active. In fact, Chavez only threw 63 punches over the first seven rounds, landing 21 of them. He didn't land a single punch in Round 1 and only connected on nine over the first five.

It wasn't until the last few rounds that Chavez came alive and finally began to go on the offensive, but by then it was too little, too late. Paul, who managed to land plenty of shots of his own late in the fight, survived the late-round onslaught to notch the victory.
While the win gets Paul ranked by the WBA and gives him a chance at a title fight, it did not do much to help his credibility with boxing fans who doubt how legitimate he is because of his lackluster list of previous opponents.

Cris Esqueda/After defeating a 58-year-old Mike Tyson last year, Paul took the fight with Chavez, who is a former champion but also well past his prime. Paul is 11 years younger, and Chavez has been riddled with issues both in and out of boxing over the past decade-plus.

The only opponent Paul faced who was considered a "real boxer" by fans was Tommy Fury, the younger brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Paul lost that fight in a split decision in 2023.
"These Jake Paul fights are a mockery of the sport of boxing," one angry viewer said. "(Chavez Jr.) hasn't thrown a [expletive] punch in 8 minutes. Like what are we watching?"
"These promoters need to stop giving Jake Paul a platform in this sport," another comment stated. "He's just an embarrassment to boxing. We already knew Chavez Jr. is washed and corrupt."
"I'm convinced that Jake Paul pays dudes to just stand still in the ring and try not to hit him," someone else wrote.

"Jake Paul has yet to give fighting someone his age another chance," one comment read. "Lost to Fury and immediately went back to begging fighters way over the hill to fight him for a bag."
There is no question that Paul is a master promoter who is maximizing his earnings in the sport of boxing. But until he fights someone a bit more legitimate, fans will clearly continue to have doubts about him.

NBA free agency 2025: Live updates, news, rumors as Myles Turner agrees to terms with Milwaukee Bucks, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander signs reported extension with Thunder
The free agency floodgates are officially open. Monday night, teams could begin negotiations with other pending free agents as the NBA officially set its salary cap at $154.647 million for the 2025-26 season. That's up 10% from last season, which was the expected jump. It took about an hour for things to get going when free agency kicked off on Monday evening, but before long, news broke that Jaren Jackson Jr. and the Grizzlies are expected to agree on a five-year, $240 million max extension, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Shortly after, Charania reported the Nuggets are trading Michael Porter Jr. to the Nets in exchange for Cam Johnson. Advertisement Other deals Monday night included Dorian Finney-Smith agreeing to a four-year, $53 million contract with the Rockets, Ty Jerome and the Grizzlies agreeing to a three-year, $28 million contract and the Mavericks striking a two-year, $13 million deal with point guard D'Angelo Russell. About 12 hours later, reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander signed a four-year, $285 million supermax extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Shortly after, former Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner reportedly agreed to a four-year, $107 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks — the top-ranked center on Yahoo Sports' free agent big board, now off the table. Things began shifting last weekend, with the Phoenix Suns trading superstar Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and the 10th pick (Khaman Maluach) in the 2025 NBA Draft. The Boston Celtics also began a refresh by trading Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trailblazers and Kristaps Porziņģis to the Atlanta Hawks. Advertisement Plenty of players will stay put with their current teams for now, though. On Sunday, LeBron James reportedly picked up his $52.6 million option for the 2025-26 season, stating his hopes of competing for a championship while the Lakers build for the future. James Harden will also stick in Los Angeles, signing a new two-year, $81 million deal after declining his player option for next season. Julius Randle will remain in Minnesota after reportedly agreeing to a three-year, $100 million contract with the Timberwolves. Other notable potential free agents include DeAndre Ayton, Jonathan Kuminga and more (check out Yahoo Sports' NBA free agent big board here). Find all of this year's free agency deals here. (AP Photo/Abbie Parr) OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed on a record-setting 4-year, $285 million extension that would give him the highest single-season average salary in NBA history, a person with knowledge of the agreement said Tuesday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been publicly announced and likely won't be until the league's moratorium on most offseason signings is lifted on Sunday. Advertisement ESPN first reported on the agreement. News of the deal comes on Canada Day, a fitting coincidence for the 26-year-old from Ontario who is coming off a season like few others in NBA history. Not only did Gilgeous-Alexander lead the Thunder to their first NBA championship and the league's best record, he swept most major individual awards — winning regular-season and NBA Finals MVP honors and the scoring title. The supermax extension was not unexpected. It was a question of timing; he could have taken a deal with an even higher total value next summer. Based on the NBA's most recent salary cap projections — the exact numbers will not be finalized until June 2027 — Gilgeous-Alexander would make somewhere around $63 million in the first season and nearly $79 million during the 2030-31 season. That would put him at an average payout of about $1 million per regular season game, and would be the highest single-season salary in NBA history. Advertisement Gilgeous-Alexander didn't enter the league with superstar expectations. He was the 11th overall pick in the 2018 draft, and he was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Thunder after his rookie year. He has been on an upward trajectory ever since, and Thunder general manager Sam Presti believes that will continue. 'He's gotten better every single year,' Presti said. 'His mindset has allowed him to take these steps and also not — I don't feel like his progress is, like, volatile. I don't know if that makes sense, but I don't feel like it's built on things that can't be repeated and built up again.' Presti referred to Gilgeous-Alexander as a 'basketball artist' because he has the emotional intelligence to know when to call upon his various gifts. 'I just think he's got left and right brain working, and I think when you think about people that are extremely successful in what they do, they can't operate all on one side or the other,' Presti said. 'People have to have — to me, the great people in life, business, sports, any industry, have to be able to access both sides, a creative side and then also a very objective side.' Advertisement The Thunder are set to be contenders for years. Their best player is in place long-term, all their major players are under contract through at least next season and Presti has a slew of draft picks stashed from previous trades. 'We definitely still have room to grow,' Gilgeous-Alexander said after the Game 7 win over the Indiana Pacers. 'That's the fun part of this. So many of us can still get better. There's not very many of us on the team that are 'in our prime' or even close to it.' ___ AP Basketball Writer Tim Reynolds contributed to this report. ___ AP NBA:
