Sudan's Federal Health Minister, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, announced that the cholera outbreak in Khartoum is under control, crediting a coordinated effort between federal and local health authorities.
He affirmed that medical supplies are sufficient, boosted by the arrival of 150 tons of intravenous fluids, and that a vaccination campaign is underway across all state districts to curb further spread.
Dr. Ibrahim also linked the outbreak to the collapse of basic sanitation services following the retreat of rebel militias from Khartoum, saying deteriorating environmental conditions had allowed the disease to spread rapidly.
However, he expressed optimism that sustained intervention and preventive efforts will soon ease the crisis.
Despite recent emergency interventions that have reportedly begun to reduce the rate of new infections and increase recovery rates, the scale of the outbreak remains alarming. Also Read Israel attacks Sanaa airport, destroys last remaining Houthi plane
A nationwide cholera vaccination campaign is expected to launch in early June.
Medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) warned that Sudan's already fragile healthcare system cannot cope with the surge.
MSF teams treated nearly 2,000 suspected cases last week, but many patients arrive too late for treatment, said MSF Sudan coordinator Joyce Bakker, describing scenes in cholera centers as 'deeply disturbing.'
The World Health Organization has emphasized the urgent need for clean water, sanitation, and adequate healthcare. The outbreak comes amid Sudan's ongoing war, which has killed over 20,000 people and displaced more than 14 million since 2023.

Kuwaiti influencer hospitalized after taking Mounjaro injection
ALBAWABA - Kuwaiti influencer Jamal Al Najadah was recently hospitalized in China after taking a Mounjaro injection without a doctor's advice, which led to serious health issues. Similar to Ozempic, Mounjaro is prescribed to patients with Type 2 diabetes to help lower their blood sugar and aid in weight loss. While a doctor's advice is always recommended, these weight loss medications have recently seen a rise in popularity among celebrities worldwide due to their weight loss effects. Celebrities viewed these injections as an easier "alternative" for weight loss instead of taking a more ordinary approach like eating healthy and exercising. Kuwaiti influencer Jamal Al Najadah is no different, as she recently took to her socials with a warning to her followers. Al Najadah revealed that she was hospitalized in China after suffering from severe bleeding and ulcers in the stomach. Al Najadah added that the symptoms occurred after she injected herself with Mounjaro without a doctor's advice. She said during a viral video, "I was acting like a psychiatrist. I took Mounjaro without a doctor's consultation, and I paid the price with a bleeding stomach." She added that the medication itself isn't dangerous if taken under a doctor's consultation, but specific health issues might arise if the patient misuses it or injects themselves without medical supervision. Al Najdah's fans praised the Kuwaiti influencer for her bold and open stance regarding the matter at hand. They also viewed her warning as an important awareness message to girls who might resort to diabetes medications like Mounjaro and Ozempic for an easier weight loss solution.

RSF seize Um Dehilib town in Sudan's South Kordofan
June 7, 2025 (KADUGLI) – The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and an allied rebel group have seized the town of Um Dehilib in Sudan's South Kordofan state from the army, as the military continues to lose ground in the region. Also Read Sudanese army foils drone attack in Port Sudan The capture comes amid reports from a local rights group of escalating attacks by the RSF on civilians in the neighbouring state of West Kordofan. Since February, the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, has been fighting in a coalition with the RSF against the Sudanese Armed Forces. RSF soldiers announced the capture of Um Dehilib, an area east of the main SPLM-N stronghold of Kauda, in a video posted on Saturday. The army has not issued an immediate comment. The Sudanese army and its allies have been ceding territory in South and West Kordofan to the RSF coalition since late May. Separately, the Dar Hamar Emergency Room, a local advocacy group, said on Saturday that RSF troops had attacked the village of Bani Badr in West Kordofan, beating civilians, looting, and seizing fuel for water stations. The group stated that the village had served as a shelter for nearly 10,000 displaced people and warned of a dire humanitarian situation after the RSF confiscated Starlink internet devices, cutting off communications. 'The population and displaced people in the area… are threatened with the risk of death by thirst,' the group said in a statement, adding that a lack of water and secure routes was also causing livestock to perish.

The drone strikes targeted infrastructure, including the country's last functioning international civilian airport, power plants, and fuel depots. The almost daily strikes had ceased for more than a week until Saturday, when eyewitnesses told AFP they heard "the sound of anti-aircraft missiles north and west of the city and drones flying overhead." © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (
