Celebrity SAS star Rebecca Loos says David Beckham scandal left her battling 'big issue'

Daily Mirror8 hours ago
Rebecca Loos was catapulted into the spotlight in 2004 when reports of an 'affair' with former England captain David Beckham emerged
Rebecca Loos says she has been left with a 'big issue' after her explosive affair claims more than two decades ago. The 48-year-old was working as a personal assistant to David Beckham when reports emerged suggesting she was having an "affair" with the footballer.

While the former England captain branded the claims 'ludicrous' it launched Rebecca into the spotlight. She subsequently went on to star in a host of reality TV shows, including Celebrity Love Island and The X Factor: Battle of the Stars.

But Rebecca has now been absent from screens since 2008, when she hosted The Podge and Rodge Show on Irish television. She is however now preparing to make a return on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

She admits her past means she is used to being in the spotlight, although she accepts it has left one lasting impression on her. Speaking to Closer, she said: 'I'm a little bit burnt by what I've been through, so I have a big issue trusting.
'Celeb SAS was a great show for me to come back on because it's quite serious. And the production company has been absolutely fantastic – what they've said the show is going to be and what they said they're going to do, they've done.'

Rebecca describes the survivalist show as 'very honest' and 'very open'. The show sees Rebecca and 13 other celebrities put through their paces as they complete the most challenging special forces selection course out there.
Ahead of the show, Rebecca took part in the Celebrity SAS Mirror Room. There Jason Fox and Chris Oliver questioned her motives for being on the show and asked about the 'affair'.
Rebecca said: 'It felt unjust that my life was pretty hell and his (Beckham's) life kept going and kept blossoming. I've been accused of being a liar. I've had a lifetime of opinions around me, I've definitely developed thick skin.

'I think the public opinion now has softened, at least from what I'm gathering since the documentary came out with the Beckhams a couple of years ago. I think it is now because thanks to social media, there is a whole different following out there, which it's a double-edged sword."
Rebecca's world changed forever in 2003 after David secured a career-defining transfer to Real Madrid. The-then 26-year-old Rebecca was hired to help him settle into his new life in Spain.

In September that year, the pair were pictured leaving a nightclub together and rumours of an affair began to circulate. In 2004, Rebecca sold her story to the News of the World, claiming the pair had been involved for four months.
The Beckhams however denied the affair. In a statement, David said: 'The simple truth is that I am very happily married. I have a wonderful wife and two very special kids.'
David and Victoria never pursued legal action against Rebecca directly, but in 2006, they reached a confidential settlement after filing defamation claims against the News of the World. David has always denied the allegations.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins can be streamed or watched live every Sunday and Monday from 9pm on Channel 4, starting tonight (3 August).

Hannah Spearritt and Louie Spence withdraw from Celebrity SAS in first episode

The Channel 4 military reality show opened with the 14 celebrity recruits hooded and standing on a breakwater, before they were asked for their identities by chief instructor Billy Billingham – who told many of the celebrities 'don't grin at me'. He then led them on two tasks, the first to plunge 26ft into the water and swim to intercept a boat, which picked them up, and the second to rescue three hostages from a building before blowing it up with a grenade. Before the second challenge began, Spearritt, 44, handed over her number tag to directing staff, telling them 'I'm done, I'm sorry, I've reached a point' – and in a pre-recorded interview which was played after her withdrawal, she said 'I don't think I'll go on the first day' adding she 'wouldn't forgive myself'. During the task, Spence, who is best known for Sky TV show Pineapple Dance Studios, threw a grenade into the building while it still had two hostages in it, and afterwards told the directing staff he wished to withdraw, and was given a second chance to put his armband back on, but turned it down. Spence said: 'I want to do an immediate withdrawal, I just don't have the conviction, and I feel as though I'm not dedicated enough.' He was told that he 'hadn't even started', but Spence replied 'that's what I mean'. After the first task, former model Rebecca Loos was pulled in by directing staff after she gave up during the swimming challenge, who asked her to open up on her alleged affair with footballer Sir David Beckham, who she worked for as a personal assistant, during the interrogation. In an interview before the first task, former Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash said the show would be 'a piece of piss' after growing up as a queer person in Norfolk. After the second task, former Watford striker Troy Deeney, who also threw a grenade into the building before clearing the hostages, was pulled in by the instructors, where he opened up on physical abuse he and his mother received from his late father. The show sees celebrities enter SAS training, where they are not eliminated and are instead culled by the directing staff or able to withdraw themselves, with those who remain at the end declared the winners. The rest of the celebrity recruits are made up of ex-drug mule Michaella McCollum, former footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa, Strictly Come Dancing 2025 runner-up Tasha Ghouri, former The Traitors winner Harry Clark, rapper Lady Leshurr, boxer Conor Benn, singer Lucy Spraggan, and ex-Love Island contestants Chloe Burrows and Adam Collard. Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Channel 4 on Monday at 9pm.

David Attenborough fans gush over 'stunning' new 'Parenthood' series which sees 99-year-old naturalist explore the lives of animal parents

David Attenborough fans have gushed over the presenter's 'stunning' new 'Parenthood' series which delves into the unique lives of animal parents. The incredible documentary, narrated by 99-year-old Sir David, explores both the highs and lows of animals raising their young in the wild. The first episode of the beloved broadcaster's new five-part series aired on Sunday, August 3, with viewers taking to social media to express their utter delight at the insightful programme that left them 'blown away'. A fascinating clip from the show captures Attenborough's team as they attempt to build up a relationship with the unique silverback gorillas and their infants. Described by Max Kobl, cinematographer for the show, as 'probably the most powerful of all primates', Sir David, narrating, warns that 'it isn't going to come easy' for the film crew as they attempt to get close to the sneaky gorillas. Initially, the team face great difficulty even finding the animals, seen wading through thick swamps in order to locate them and using indicators such as the types of twigs on the ground. Commentating, one member of the crew says: 'The swamps don't pose challenges for the gorillas, the swamps pose one of many challenges for us.' In the insightful footage of their challenging trek, one member of the team is seen nearly toppling over due to the thick, knee-deep water. When asked 'you okay?', he simply responds: 'nope'. The first episode of the beloved broadcaster's new five-part series aired on Sunday, August 3, with viewers taking to social media to express their utter delight at the insightful programme that left them 'blown away' Sir David, narrating, adds: 'The team try as best they can to keep up and just as they reach dry land, the gorilla family has other ideas'. Reflecting on the ongoing challenge as the gorilla's appear seemingly camera shy, Peter Lytle, a researcher on the team, acknowledges that while its 'great' they have managed to finally locate the animals, the gorillas have now decided they would like to return. At a later point, the film crew finally achieve some success, eventually striking up a relationship with the silverback gorillas and their young babies, with incredible footage capturing them in their natural habitat. Watching on lovingly at the magnificent creatures, one member of the film crew remarks: 'there's something everyday the gorillas do to put a smile on their face'. Meanwhile, a trecker, who provides detailed insights into the lives and habits of the unique animals to Attenborough's team throughout the process, explains that 'you have to live among these animals to really understand how they work'. Acknowledging the intricacies of the relationship between man and animal, he continues: 'They don't speak the same language as us, but we have already developed a certain language which allows the gorillas and us to communicate, its a form of love.' Filmed over three years and spanning six continents, the new docu-series seeks to highlight how parenting in the wild can be a 'high-stakes game in which some animal parents must come up with extraordinary strategies to give their young a head start'. Promising viewers 'astonishing, never-before-seen animal behaviours in stunning ultra high definition, from the remote jungles of Bhutan to the grasslands of Botswana', those who tuned in to watch the series' first instalment have been left in awe. Taking to social media to express their fascination with the 'stunning' new show, one commenter on social media platform X gushed: 'All the contributors to Parenthood are amazing', while another added: 'Parenthood is another great programme. Congratulations once again Sir David Attenborough and the BBC'. Meanwhile, other viewers were keen to share their utter adoration for the adorable gorillas in the episode, taking to social media to insist they could 'watch them for hours', while another quipped: 'These gorillas are playing the crew like a fiddle'. Another adorable clip captures the wonderful moment a gorilla mother clutches her sleeping newborn to her chest, as he twitches fitfully in his slumber. The clip shows a female western lowland gorilla with her moments-old baby in a breathtaking landscape of green jungle. Narrating, Sir David says: 'For his mother, the arrival of her young baby is the start of a new chapter in her adult life - parenthood. 'Her journey will be challenging, full of excitement, uncertainty and complete commitment. Narrating, Sir David says: 'For his mother, the arrival of her young baby is the start of a new chapter in her adult life - parenthood. 'Her journey will be challenging, full of excitement, uncertainty and complete commitment' 'There will be mistakes - there always are. But success for her, and indeed for all parents, has perhaps the greatest of consequences, it ensures the future of life on our planet.' Alongside stories of gorillas, Parenthood also features striking footage of the lives of orangutans, elephants and cheetahs, among many others. The near hour-long programme focuses on animal parents that are 'having to adapt to a world that is changing rapidly', with the creatures facing 'a unique set of challenges' that they must overcome. It is the first BBC natural history series to focus on parenting, with the team using new technology to capture the weird and wonderful in the wild. These include using military-grade infrared cameras mounted on gimbals on off-road vehicles and show hippos being chased by lions at night.
