Tesla protesters take aim at Musk's retro-style diner with Nazi-styled balloons — even as lines stretch around the block

New York Posta day ago
After tossing Molotov cocktails at vehicles and vandalizing showrooms, Tesla protesters are now taking aim at Elon Musk's retro-futuristic diner near Hollywood — even as lines of customers wrap around the block.
Tall inflatable balloons designed to look like Musk, in Tesla-branded T-shirts and black MAGA hats, mimicked the Nazi salute while protesters chanted: 'Hey hey, ho ho, Elon Musk has got to go!'
In videos posted to social media, one demonstrator can be seen splayed across the front of a Cybertruck and flipping the bird in an attempt to deter customers from driving into the diner's parking lot.

Fans of Musk showed up in full force, too, with one customer on YouTube claiming he waited 11 hours for the restaurant to open.
Easily more than 20 vehicles can be seen backed up around the block in a video online as customers waited to order, while reports from last week described lines at least 100 people long.

For months, Musk has faced outrage from protesters at Tesla dealerships across the country following his severe government funding cuts.
About 75 protesters gathered on Saturday at the 24-hour Tesla diner, which abruptly opened last week after years of Musk touting his vision for an 'old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant.'
Electric-vehicle charging stations wrap around the parking lot of the Tesla diner, which has a front door that looks like a glowing portal and neon red stripes atop the building.

Tesla's Optimus humanoid robots filled cartons with fresh popcorn at the opening, while customers were served burgers in Cybertruck boxes and $12 maple-glazed bacon.
There's a wraparound balcony on the top deck of the diner with tables and chairs where customers can enjoy dinner and a movie, as a large screen in the parking lot plays full-length films each night.

But protesters are hopeful that the buzz around the diner and drive-in theater will die down.
'This is the world's most renowned anti-trans advocate who just opened a diner in West Hollywood. The community is not very supportive of Elon,' Joel Lava, who led the protests at the diner, told CNN.
While attendance at the Tesla Takedown protesters peaked in March, the demonstrations have still 'been going strong,' Lava said.

As of Monday, the Tesla Takedown site listed 45 upcoming protests.
'Our main message is Tesla funds facism. Elon Musk, via DOGE, has destroyed our government agencies and people's jobs, and people are dying around the world because of him,' Lava added.
The Tesla brand has already endured significant brand damage from the protests, he said.
Last week, the automaker reported its worst sales drop in a decade and earnings that missed Wall Street estimates.

Tesla has also been steadily losing overseas market share to Chinese rivals, like EV maker BYD.
But executives at the company have focused on the future of the company during earnings calls, boasting about its Optimus humanoid robots and robotaxis.

These opportunities, however, are pricey and risky bets, and it's expected that Tesla will soon feel more pain from President Trump's tariffs and the end of federal EV tax credits.
The stock is down more than 15% so far this year, while most tech stocks and the Nasdaq have been on an upward tear.

Tesla Aftermarket Company Claims It Built an 'Indestructible' Wheel for Rideshare Drivers

The latest car news, reviews, and features. Typically, forged wheels exist in the realm of high-performance vehicles that see track abuse. They're stronger than the cast wheels that comprise most OEM and aftermarket equipment, at the penalty of a much higher cost. One Tesla aftermarket specialist is marketing their latest set of forged rims to a different sort of clientele, though: hard-driving Uber drivers and future robotaxi operators who put their vehicles through constant abuse on pothole-strewn roads. They've even gone so far as to call their product 'indestructible.' That's a tall claim, especially considering Unplugged Performance is selling these 'Road Warrior' wheels with a 'lifetime replacement guarantee if owners manage to bend or crack' them. On one hand, that signals faith in the goods, which is always encouraging to see; on the other, if we're even entertaining the possibility that these could crack or bend, then they're not really indestructible, are they? Marketing aside, forged wheels are generally pretty strong, and Unplugged says its Road Warrior design also draws within 0.01 Cd of Tesla's lowest-drag factory wheel, thanks to a 'structurally integrated forged aerodynamic disc' that mitigates turbulence. Looking at a Road Warrior wheel side-on, it does look a little funky, backing a typical aftermarket 10-spoke design with a large plate that's chamfered along the inner edge. Unplugged Performance The outer edge is interesting, too, because Unplugged is shipping these with swappable aluminum guards to protect against curb rash, which you can see in one of the images above. This is a pretty good idea on its surface, because banging into curbs is something rideshare drivers probably do a lot. However, a two-pack of these costs $80, per the company's website, and a particularly careless or sloppy parker is going to be chewing through them like crazy. At which point, I'd be remiss not to mention the tried-and-true champion of cheap durability for anyone truly concerned about potholes: steel wheels and tires with chunky sidewalls. It's true that they look good on everything—even Teslas, no matter what your passengers say. They may increase unsprung weight and drag, but if you're ultimately concerned with your bottom line, like road warriors tend to be, they'll endure just about anything. Going back to Unplugged's 'indestructible' wheels, they run $2,595 for a 19×8.5 set, or $2,995 for a 20×8.5 set. That's actually quite cheap as far as forged wheels go, though we can't attest to their quality. The fitment is geared for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, with the latter also serving as the automaker's first 'Robotaxi' autonomous vehicles now popping up in cities like San Francisco. Got tips? Karrueche Tran stayed by Deion Sanders' side during life-saving surgery. Here's more about her

Karrueche Tran's emotional response as she waited with NFL legend Deion Sanders for him to have surgery for bladder cancer has caused speculation that the pair are dating. Tran appeared in a YouTube video titled 'For Your Glory: (Part 1),' which documents Sanders' treatment around his surgery, and includes the 'Claws' actress visibly emotional while at the hospital as she details what Sanders is being admitted for. The video – which includes Tran holding Sanders' hand on the way into the procedure – was shared on Monday. The pair haven't confirmed or denied the nature of their relationship, and CNN has reached out to representatives for both seeking comment. Tran, meanwhile, has a life and career beyond the internet's curiosity about her and the football player turned college football coach: Tran's first listed acting gig on IMDb dates back to 2014, and she has enjoyed roles in TV shows like 'The Last O.G.' and 'Bel-Air' along with films like 'The Nice Guys' and 'Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.' But it was playing the pivotal character Virginia on the popular series 'Claws' opposite Niecy Nash-Betts that made her a more in-demand actress. From 2010 to 2024, Tran starred as Vivian Johnson-Garrett on the digital series 'The Bay,' which has won more than 20 Daytime Emmys, according to the show's site. She took home the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a daytime fiction program in 2021. This year, she appeared in three episodes of the Paramount+ with Showtime series 'The Chi' as Zuri. Some may recognize Tran for having had a tumultuous relationship with singer Chris Brown from 2011 to 2015. Soon after their split, she appeared on the OWN reality series 'Iyanla: Fix My Life' and talked about the betrayal she said she felt after discovering that Brown had fathered a child with another woman. The host, Iyanla Vanzant, coached her into revealing that she felt devastated because 'the man I loved hurt and betrayed me.' Tran has also dated NFL receiver Victor Cruz and Quavo, a rapper with the group Migos. Fans are curious as to the timeline of when Tran and Sanders became close. The outspoken former athlete's last known relationship was with Tracey Edmonds, who is the former wife of music superstar Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds and was with Sanders for over a decade. The pair were engaged for four years, but announced their split in 2023. 'We have mutually decided that it is best for us to move forward in life as friends and have made this decision with love in our hearts, respect for each other and appreciation for the time we've shared together,' they said in a joint statement posted on social media.

Elon Musk's Boring Co. tunnel in Nashville: Who can and can't use the Music City Loop

The Boring Company's upcoming Music City Loop isn't for everyone, and it has strict requirements for its users. Only Teslas will be allowed in the Music City Loop, but not just anyone can drive on it. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee officially announced a new private transportation project for the Volunteer State on Monday, July 28. Elon Musk's The Boring Company, an American infrastructure and tunnel construction service, will build a tunnel system to reduce transit time between downtown and the Nashville International Airport (BNA). If successful, the tunnel could eliminate traffic delays for users, allowing them to bypass one of the most annoying traffic backups in the city. What is the Nashville tunnel The Boring Company is making for? The Boring Company doesn't just create tunnels, it creates transit systems. These systems are emission-free and utilize a fleet of Tesla electric vehicles like the Model 3 sedan and Model X midsize SUV to transport users. They are driven by Loop operators without the use of any semi-autonomous technology, despite Tesla's recent Robotaxi push. Can any driver in Nashville use the Music City Loop? If you want to make use of the Music City Loop (if and when it's completed), you can't operate your own vehicle in the underground tunnel. Even Tesla owners aren't permitted to drive through the Loop. In order to make use of the service, Tennesseans and travelers must go to a Music City Loop entrance and ride in one of the Tesla EVs in the company's fleet, accompanied by an experienced Loop operator. Why aren't drivers allowed to use the Music City Loop on their own with their own vehicles? For gas drivers, smog from internal combustion engine exhaust systems would be disastrous and potentially fatal. Most major underground subway systems, such as the New York City Subway, are all electric railways. For EV drivers and Tesla owners, the Loops are much too narrow to navigate for those unfamiliar with the tunnels. Their diameters are designed specifically for cost-reduction with the dimensions of fleet vehicles in mind. Allowing drivers to navigate the tunnels on their own would be a huge liability. So, expect the Loop to operate as more of an underground private taxi service than an underground express lane. Are Tennessee taxpayers funding the Music City Loop? The Music City Loop will be constructed at "zero cost to taxpayers," according to the Office of the Governor. Loop tunnels typically cost about $10 million per mile on average, said Business Insider. The project's initial phase spans 10 miles, so it could easily cost over $100 million to build. Will it cost to use the Music City Loop? As for the cost of using the Music City Loop, pricing info has yet to be released. Similar Loop pricing gives us some clues as to what users could pay in Nashville. Prices for the Vegas Loop range from $5 to $12. Transit times range from three to eight minutes, with times and fares varying based on the distance and Loop entry point. Who benefits from The Boring Co.'s Music City Loop? If you have no issue getting from downtown Nashville or the Convention Center to BNA, the Music City Loop may not benefit you at all. On the other hand, if you despise the major traffic backups that can surround the airport at times, then the Loop is "innovation at its finest", in the words of U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The Loop is a zero-emissions high-speed transit system best for folks who are willing to spend a few bucks to avoid heavy traffic. It could potentially help Nashville support tourism and ease congestion, which is a net positive for Tennesseans and travelers. When does the Music City Loop open? Construction is expected to begin this fall and initial legs should be operational in Q4 2026, according to The Boring Company.
