Karnataka to reduce SSLC passing marks to 33% starting from 2025-26 session
According to the proposed guidelines, candidates must secure an average of 33 per cent marks, combining both internal assessment and external examination, to be declared pass.
This reduction was implemented through an amendment to the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board Act, 1966.
"Candidates shall secure an average of 33 per cent marks in internal assessment and external examination combined and shall be declared pass if they secure at least 206 marks out of a total of 625 marks, including at least 30 per cent marks in each subject out of the total marks of the respective subject," the notification issued by the Department of School Education & Literacy stated.
According to the notification, 15 days have been given to public to file objections to this new proposed rule.

The Odisha government has allowed women to work in night shifts, but written consent would be mandatory, according to a notification. The Labour and Employees' State Insurance Department issued a detailed guideline, allowing women to work in night shifts in factories, shops and other commercial establishments. At least three women employees should be there on the night shift, and adequate transportation facilities with a GPS-tracking system to pick and drop them should be arranged, it said. No adolescent women will be allowed to work, whether as an employee or otherwise, in any establishment during the night, it said. The decision will increase employment opportunities for women, the notification said. The state government has recently made amendments to the Odisha Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1956, allowing women to work in night shifts. Labour Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia said, 'After getting instructions from the Centre, we have allowed women to work at night. Female employees will have to give their written consent, expressing their willingness to work at night.' The opposition BJD, however, criticised the government. 'Women will have to give a self-declaration to work on the night shifts. It means they will have to protect themselves. By doing so, the government is trying to give up its responsibility,' BJD leader Pramila Mallik alleged.

Goa cracks down on litterbugs: New garbage bill aims to keep tourist areas clean; fines up to Rs 3 lakh
PORVORIM : The House passed the crucial Goa NonBiodegradable Garbage (Control) (Amendment) Bill, which has provision to penalise people caught littering not just public spaces, but private ones too. The bill facilitates a fine of Rs 300 for the first offence, with subsequent offences attracting fines of up to Rs 3 lakh. Opposition leader Yuri Alemao asked why imprisonment as a deterrent was not included in the amendment bill. It was passed after a brief discussion on provisions, and with amendments suggested by Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral. The House also passed the Goa Tax on Infrastructure (Amendment) Bill, introduced by TCP minister Vishwajit Rane, which aims to make payment of infrastructure tax by builders and developers easier. Opposition MLAs questioned govt's intent in allowing payments in two installments. To the point raised by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on whether similar benefits will be extended to Goans for constructing their houses, the CM said such a law is in the pipeline. Passing of the Goa Public Universities Bill, with a provision to facilitate setting up of multi-disciplinary universities was deferred till Friday following Opposition members' demands that the bill be sent to the select committee.
