Martyrdom of citizens: CJP, SC judges hold condolence session
The judges offered Fateha for the departed souls. They extended their heartfelt condolences and deep sympathies to the bereaved families, acknowledging the profound pain and sorrow caused by this inhumane aggression.
They prayed to Almighty Allah to shower His infinite mercy upon the martyrs, elevate their ranks in the hereafter, and grant strength and patience to their families to endure this tragic and irreparable loss with courage and dignity.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan stands in solidarity with the affected families and the nation, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to justice, human dignity, and the protection and sanctity of innocent lives.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan (SCBAP) led by its President Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta and the 27th Cabinet staged a protest walk from Supreme Court of Pakistan building Islamabad to Parliament House (Constitution Avenue) against Indian unwarranted aggression and recent territorial violations, including drone incursions.
A large number of members participated to condemn these actions, calling them clear breaches of international law and bilateral agreements like the Indus Waters Treaty.
Protesters expressed full support for the Armed Forces and showed readiness to stand united in defence of the country. They demanded a strong and appropriate response to the provocation, emphasising the nation's right to safeguard its sovereignty.
In this regard, the association supports and endorses the call issued by the Pakistan Bar Council to the entire legal fraternity to observe a countrywide strike on May 09, 2025 (Friday) and to stage peaceful protests, sit-ins, pass condemnation resolutions to protest unwarranted aggression, show solidarity with the armed forces and with the families of martyrs and those who got injured.

FM Dar arrives in Washington to discuss bilateral trade, economic cooperation
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has arrived in Washington DC, where he is scheduled to meet his US counterpart, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, at the Department of State. They will discuss important facets of Pak-US relations exploring ways and means to strengthen bilateral ties, with a particular focus on promoting trade, investment and economic cooperation, state-run media Radio Pakistan reported. The deputy prime minister is also scheduled to speak at the US think tank, The Atlantic Council, sharing Pakistan's perspective on regional and global issues as well as the future of Pak-US relations. A day ago, Bloomberg, quoting US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce as saying, reported that a Pakistani delegation will soon meet the administration of US President Donald Trump in a bid to reach an agreement on a trade deal. In a US Department of State press briefing on Wednesday, Bruce said she will attend the meeting between the Pakistani delegation and US officials. Islamabad is looking forward to the 29% reciprocal tariffs to be lifted that the Trump administration levied initially, Bloomberg said. The South Asian country has proposed to increase imports of soybeans and cotton, while it already is the second-largest buyer of US cotton by value, after China. Whereas, Pakistan's biggest export destination is the United States. Bilateral ties between Pakistan and US have improved in recent times, with Trump's holding a rare meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House. The FO stated on July 19 that FM Dar's visit is an indication of Pakistan's increasing importance in both its relations with the US and the global landscape. Moreover, in order to complete a trade agreement, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has also visited the United States and met with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington recently to advance economic cooperation, as per the Ministry of Finance. Reuters last week reported that the negotiations, focused on reciprocal tariffs, are part of a broader push to reset economic ties at a time of shifting geopolitical alignments and Pakistan's efforts to avoid steep US duties on exports.

In a defining moment of South Asian military history, the May 2025 conflict marked a dramatic shift in the regional power balance. A far smaller and economically constrained Pakistan demonstrated not only military and technological parity with India, but also surpassed its rival in strategic planning, diplomatic agility, and psychological warfare. What began as an act of hubris by New Delhi ended in national humiliation, with Islamabad emerging stronger and more respected on the global stage. India's offensive—initiated under the assumption of swift success and limited backlash — turned into a monumental miscalculation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, buoyed by inflated domestic support and a self-image of regional dominance, underestimated Pakistan's preparedness and resolve. He hoped to win quick political dividends through a show of force, especially ahead of crucial elections. But Pakistan did not respond as expected. Instead of reacting impulsively, Islamabad bided its time. It waited for international consensus to identify India as the aggressor. This restraint, seen as both wise and mature, allowed Pakistan to garner global sympathy while preparing a precise and proportionate response. Government-run colleges: Punjab CM agrees to establish ‘College Management Council'
LAHORE: 'Upgrade GC University, Lahore College for Women University and University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, as model educational institutions,' Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned while chairing a special meeting of the Higher Education Department. She reviewed proposals for governance reforms and institutional autonomy in public sector universities. She informed, 'many foreign universities including those of UK, Korea and Kazakhstan have expressed interest in setting up campuses in Punjab. University of London, University of Brunel, University of Gloucestershire, University of Leicester and others have offered to set up campuses in Punjab.' The Chief Minister directed the authorities concerned to emphasize on improving teaching quality, innovative research and creative knowledge in the universities of the province. She directed them to prioritise focus on human resource development in these universities. She said, 'digital transformation and global connectivity in universities is also among priorities.' She directed to hold Higher Education Conference in Punjab for the first time, and sought a detailed report on inactive commerce colleges in Punjab. The CM agreed to establish College Management Council for government colleges in Punjab, and directed the relevant authorities to implement 'KPI' system to raise standard of education in the universities. She said, 'The performance of a Vice Chancellor will be evaluated on the basis of 'KPI' criteria.' She also sought a report on underperforming colleges in the province, and directed to establish Education Vigilance Squad, which will conduct surprise checks on attendance, cleanliness, quality of education and other issues in educational institutions. She said, 'Immediate action will be taken on the report of Education Vigilance Squad under the supervision of Minister for Education.' She reviewed a proposal to set green, blue, yellow and grey rankings of the universities based on their quality of education. The Chief Minister received a detailed briefing on CM Punjab Honhar Scholarship and Laptop Schemes. She was briefed by the authorities concerned, 'More than 19,000 students from other provinces, besides Punjab, have applied for these Schemes of Chief Minister Punjab.'
