Chatting with Radio Times, the 80 year old rocker shared that due to his recent stint in Las Vegas, he's facing a hefty bill to transport all his gear back to Britain for his performance at Worthy Farm, reports the Manchester Evening News. "It's going to cost me £300,000 to do it and they (Glastonbury) only pay you about 120,000 quid," he revealed. ‌ Sir Rod was joined by the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood, his old mate from Faces, Lulu and Mick Hucknall on the stage. ‌ "I'm really looking forward to it," he said ahead of the performance. "And it is a different gig." He likened the experience to playing in a football final: "It's like when you're playing a cup final: you're trying to treat it like another game. But, of course, it's not. It's special. "It'll be glamorous, it'll be sexy," Rod went on. "And we've got a little orchestra coming on to play with us. Speaking to the BBC, he said: "Usually I do well over two hours so there's still a load of songs we won't be able to do. ‌ "But we've been working at it. I'm not gonna make any announcements between songs. "I'll do one number, shout 'next', and go straight into the next one. I'm going to get in as many songs I can." The 80 year old music icon sang a variety of his songs, such as Maggie May and Sailing. ‌ It's well-known that Glastonbury headliners receive far less in payment compared to other major festivals. Rod Stewart pays subtle tribute to wife Penny Lancaster during Glastonbury Legends set

Sir Rod Stewart took to Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage on Sunday for his Legends set giving a subtle nod to his wife Penny Lancaster as he played one of his hit songs. Glastonbury: Rod Stewart sings classic First Cut Is The Deepest Sir Rod Stewart appeared to pay a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Penny Lancaster, during his lively set at Glastonbury Festival on Sunday. The 80-year-old rocker captivated the massive crowd gathered at the Pyramid Stage in the scorching heat. The Maggie May singer powered through an energetic 90 minute performance, showcasing his iconic back catalogue while also including some timeless classics from other artists. ‌ Earlier in the show, he performed the classic The First Cut Is The Deepest, originally written by Cat Stevens and recorded by Rod in 1976, once again delighting the audience with his rendition, the Mirror reports. ‌ But it was eagle-eyed fans who spotted Rod's sweet gesture. It appeared as though he gave a heartfelt nod towards his wife of 18 years, Penny. While singing the line: "I still want you by my side," the rock legend pointed off stage and gave a wry smile. Earlier in the day, Penny was spotted posing with fans of her husband. The group, donning wigs to mimic the iconic rocker's signature look, took photos with the 54-year-old. During his electrifying set, Rod was joined on stage by fellow music legends Mick Hucknall, Ronnie Wood and Lulu. He also paid a heartfelt tribute to Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie, who passed away in November 2022, projecting her image on the big screen while performing one of her hit songs. Despite the standout performance, not everything went smooth sailing for the veteran artist. Before LuLu officially joined him on stage, Rod mistakenly introduced her during an earlier segment. While Ronnie Wood appeared promptly, LuLu was notably absent at the time, leading to a brief mix-up. ‌ The icon quickly retracted his comments and said 'oh LuLu is coming on in a bit' as Ronnie got his guitar and played for the massive crowd. LuLu did arrive moments later to sing the hit song Hot Legs with Rod in a gorgeous white suit. In another small mishap, Rod seemingly missed his timing during the iconic song Maggie May. The singer seemed to come in far too early as he sang the song, but it didn't stop fans from getting involved in the action. ‌ The rendition received the biggest singalong of his set for the large crowd, which was packed straight to the back. Despite the slight errors, Rod's performance was well received overall. One social media user took to X, formally known as Twitter, writing: "Like him or not. Rod Stewart has still got it!! He's a showman, great entertainer, and can work a crowd. You go Rod! ! Big shout out to his Band. #bbc #RodStewart #uk" Throughout the set, Sir Rod was forced to change his outfit multiple times due to the blistering heat. He first started the set in a white shirt and black jacket, before switching to a bright pink suit. He then finished the set in an emerald green outfit, showcasing his love for Celtic.

Rod Stewart leaves Glastonbury stage to fix urgent issue as his glamorous backing singers take over the Pyramid stage during Legends set

Rod Stewart made sure to put on an jam-packed Glastonbury performance on Sunday, but he had to let his backing singers take over midway through his set. The singer, 80, played the Legends slot on the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm to a huge crowd when almost an hour in he announced he was taking a break. Following his rendition of Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, Rod told the crowd: 'The girls are going to do a song for you while I change my shirt.' The glamorous female singers, dressed in matching sequin dresses, entertained the festival goers with an impressive performance of Lady Marmalade. Rod later returned to the stage ditching is jacket, white shirt and jeans combination for a bold pink suit. The Maggie May hitmaker put on an impressive show in the sweltering heat before taking a second break to change into an eye catching green suit. Taking over the stage once again was his backing singers who performed a rendition of Tina Turner's Proud Mary. Elsewhere Rod made a very awkward gaffe while introducing Lulu at Glastonbury as he brought out three surprise guests. Lulu's entry didn't go as smoothly as Rod had hoped as he introduced Ronnie Wood followed by Lulu. He said: 'Now it gives me really great pleasure to bring on two legends, first of all Ronnie Wood. Here he is put your hands together and the wonderful Lulu...' As the stage fell silent, Rod looked around awkwardly for Lulu as she didn't join him on stage. He then added: 'Oh yeah, Lulu is coming on next', causing the crowd to laugh at the mistake. Rod continued, 'Come on Ronnie lets do it like the old days son', as the pair broke out with Ronnie playing guitar for him on a rendition of Stay With Me. Rod passed the stage to Ronnie, who was dressed in a black sequin jacket, for a guitar solo and the old pals sang together on the chorus. Following the track Scottish hitmaker Lulu, 76, joined them on stage, Rod said: 'Come on Lulu baby, where is she'. Running on stage, she replied: 'You're killing it'. Lulu looked sensational in an all-white ensemble consisting of fringed trousers and a blazer as the duo got the crowd hyped up with a version of Hot Legs. The hitmaker, who commanded attention in a green suit, finished the track by saying: 'What a girl! Come on big round of applause'. Also during the set, Rod made sure to put on a jam packed performance with multiple costume changes and also brought out Simply Red's Mick Hucknall, 65.
