Western airlines risk suffering greater disruption than their Chinese rivals this summer, as the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel – compounded by US military strikes – forces most carriers to avoid flying over dangerous airspace on China-Europe routes.
Over the past decade, Chongqing has evolved into a hub of international trade, thanks to the launch of two expansive cross-border rail networks. One runs west to Germany and the other extends south, reaching as far as Singapore – trade corridors that give China faster, more reliable access to global markets while offering other countries a clear route into its vast interior.

China will stage a military parade to commemorate the end of World War II – only the second time the event has been held – as conflicts rage around the world, including the latest between Iran and Israel.

Why the US could be China's biggest ally in holding back Asia's nuclear ambitions

Iran's crushing defeat in its brief but devastating war with Israel has sent shock waves far beyond the Middle East, casting fresh doubts on the viability of nuclear non-proliferation and raising fears of a renewed global push to acquire nuclear weapons. Without a credible nuclear deterrent, Tehran proved unable to effectively defend or retaliate against Israel's pre-emptive strikes on key personnel and nuclear facilities, despite its much-touted strategic alignment with China and Russia. Both China and Russia issued strong statements condemning Israel and the US but showed little inclination to intervene or offer tangible support when it mattered most. This left Tehran effectively isolated, despite its joint maritime drill with Beijing and Moscow in March – an exercise that now seems just a symbolic show of unity. Preoccupied with Russia's war in Ukraine and Western sanctions, President Vladimir Putin later clarified that Moscow's alliance with Tehran lacked joint defence commitments – serving to highlight Moscow's intent to avoid being dragged into direct conflict with Israel or the US.

Philippines' Rodrigo Duterte wants to keep Davao house for sentimental reasons

Former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has stepped in to defuse a potential family feud over his Davao City house that was put up for sale, saying he is unwilling to offload the property due to its sentimental value. Advertisement Duterte's partner Honeylet Avancena said she was seeking buyers for the residence, citing her emotional concerns ever since the Davao mayor was held in a detention centre in The Hague over his charges linked to his war on drugs, in which thousands of purported dealers and users were killed. 'It hurts my chest every time I go inside. I'm the only one who enters now. There are four house helpers, but no master,' Avancena told radio station DZRH. 'We abandoned it after what happened. I cannot sleep there any more because the lawyers asked us to install CCTV even inside the bedroom.' A 'for sale' sign was seen in front of the house over the weekend, but it later disappeared. Advertisement Paolo Duterte, the ex-leader's lawmaker son, said the home was the first his father bought with his own money, and he 'doesn't want to let it go'.

TikTok Shop opens for business in Japan as US fate hangs in balance

TikTok has launched its e-commerce platform in Japan, enabling users to directly buy products featured in videos, as the app continues to face an uncertain future in the US. TikTok Shop's launch in Japan on Monday confirms the Post's earlier report that the popular short-video app is seeking to diversify its global footprint while reducing its reliance on the US market, as President Donald Trump has demanded the app's US operations be sold to American investors. Trump said in an interview with Fox News on Monday that he had found a buyer for TikTok, but the completion of the deal required Beijing's approval. TikTok's future in the US remains in limbo, with the deadline for ByteDance to secure a local buyer having been postponed twice by Trump, with the latest extension ending in October. Japan is TikTok Shop's 17th market, following launches in the US, the UK, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam, among others. The launch of TikTok Shop in Japan introduces another Chinese player to the country's e-commerce market, which already includes platforms like Temu and Shein. Last year, Alibaba Group Holding, owner of the Post, also launched a special cross-border e-commerce service, Tao, for Japanese consumers.
