Local businesses, including hotel owners, shopkeepers, taxi owners, and horse owners, struggle to repay bank loans due to the lack of tourists.
'The recent standstill in tourism has severely impacted local businesses in Pahalgam, with hotel owners, shopkeepers, taxi owners, and horse owners struggling to repay bank loans. To address this, local leaders are urging the government and Shrine Board to support the Amarnath Yatra, which could help revive tourism in the area,' said People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti.
She urged the government to allow local tourists to visit closed parks like Chandanwadi, Ado, Betaab Valley to generate income for local businesses.
'I urge the government to open closed parks like Chandanwadi, Betaab Valley to enable local tourists to visit and generate income for local businesses and provide full support to Amarnath Yatris and ensure their safety during the journey', said the PDP Chief.
She highlighted the importance of welcoming Amarnath Yatris with warmth and hospitality, highlighting the region's tradition of extending goodwill to visitors. She stressed the role of local stakeholders in securing the Amarnath Yatra and promoting a sense of responsibility and cooperation.
'Allow horse owners to bring as many horses as possible for the Amarnath Yatra. We want to welcome Amarnath Yatris with the same warmth and hospitality that Kashmiris have extended for hundreds of years. Insha Allah, they will be given full support and ensured a safe journey,' the PDP Chief added to the statement.
Shri Amarnathji Yatra is scheduled from July 3 to August 9. The 38-day pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir has been secured with a massive deployment of 581 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies, jammers, and drones.
Earlier on June 8, the Indian Army, with support from an NGO, M3M Foundation, organised the Gujjar-Bakerwal Mela at Aishmuqam in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, aimed at supporting the nomadic community ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, AF Hamid, inspected the Nunwan and Chandanwari base camps on Thursday to review the progress of ongoing developmental works and preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025.
According to an official press release, the DC reviewed critical infrastructure projects executed by various departments, including Jal Shakti, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Roads and Buildings (R&B), and other allied agencies.
He also inspected ongoing track clearance operations along the yatra route. Special focus was placed on the readiness of essential facilities such as drinking water, sanitation, power supply, accommodation, and health care services.
The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, said the tourism sector has been badly affected and the administration is now focusing on ensuring a safe and incident-free Amarnath Yatra. (ANI)

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], July 2 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Government has notified an amendment to the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965, permitting state government employees to invest in shares, securities, debentures, and mutual funds, in line with the provisions applicable to Central Government employees. The General Administration Department has notified the new amendment to the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965, which has been implemented by introducing a new sub-clause under Rule 19, with the objective of ensuring transparency in financial transactions. However, the notification clearly stipulates that intraday trading, BTST (Buy Today Sell Tomorrow), Futures and Options (F&O), and investment activities in cryptocurrencies shall remain prohibited. Earlier today, the Nifty ended 88 points lower, while the Sensex closed 288 points lower. Among sectors, the Metal index outperformed, rallying 1.41 per cent, whereas the Realty index lost the most, shedding 1.44 per cent. India's strong domestic fundamentals, a responsive RBI, and good monsoon conditions have been supporting the financial markets. US markets are hitting all-time highs, and the US dollar is weakening; as a result, emerging markets like India are benefiting. Accra [Ghana], July 2 (ANI): Members of the Indian diaspora in Ghana are eagerly awaiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country in 30 years. Crowds gathered hours before the Prime Minister's scheduled arrival, holding Indian flags and signs expressing their excitement. Manoj Kapoor, a member of the Indian diaspora, expressed his excitement, saying, 'We are all eagerly waiting for PM Modi. He is a tall global leader. Everyone really likes him. People of Ghana are waiting for him. He is well-respected here.' Seema Kapoor, also part of the Indian diaspora in Ghana, spoke of the emotional experience of seeing the Prime Minister in person for the first time. 'We have watched him (PM Modi) on TV for years, today we are getting the opportunity to meet him in person. We are delighted, and we can't express it in words,' she said. PM Modi landed in Ghana on Wednesday, the 1st country in his 5-nation tour. At the invitation of Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama, PM Modi will visit Ghana on 2-3 July. Ghana is a valued partner in the Global South and plays an important role in the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States. 'I look forward to my exchanges aimed at further deepening our historical ties and opening up new windows of cooperation, including in the areas of investment, energy, health, security, capacity building and development partnership. As fellow democracies, it will be an honour to speak at the Parliament of Ghana,' the statement said. During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold talks with the President of Ghana to review the strong bilateral partnership and discuss further avenues to enhance it through economic, energy, and defence collaboration, and development cooperation partnership. This visit will reaffirm the shared commitment of the two countries to deepen bilateral ties and strengthen India's engagement with the ECOWAS [Economic Community of West African States] and the African Union, a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) release said. The visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Ghana is taking place after three decades. (ANI)
