Harry lawyers must disclose ‘payment' documents in Mail publisher case
They have accused the publisher of conducting or commissioning unlawful activities such as hiring private investigators to tap phones, 'blagging' private records, and burglaries to order.
The group also includes actress Sadie Frost, campaigner Baroness Doreen Lawrence and politician Sir Simon Hughes.
ANL denies the allegations and is defending the legal action, previously describing the claims as 'lurid' and 'simply preposterous'.
At a hearing in May, lawyers for ANL asked the court in London to order the group's legal team to 'search for and disclose any documents that relate to payments, royalties or inducements paid, provided or offered, or any demands or threats made, in order to obtain documents, information or other co-operation'.
Antony White KC, for ANL, said a limited number of documents had been disclosed, which showed that 'payments were made or offered' to 'procure evidence and invoices'.
In a ruling handed down on Friday, Mr Justice Nicklin said: 'I am satisfied that documents held by the claimants that can support a case that a witness has been paid or offered other inducement for their evidence, whether directly or indirectly, should be disclosed.
'That is because there is a real prospect that Associated will be able to rely upon this evidence to attack the credibility of such witnesses.
'Ultimately, the issue of whether the payment or inducement does affect the credibility of any witness is a matter to be resolved at trial.'
He added: 'In this case, the stance adopted by the claimants has been undermined by their inconsistent and incoherent approach to disclosure of documents relating to payments to potential witnesses and/or other inducements.'
Mr Justice Nicklin also ordered that lawyers for the claimants should conduct searches to identify and hand over documents ANL could rely on 'in advancing a case that potential witnesses have been given or offered financial incentives to provide information or evidence in support of allegations' of unlawful information gathering (UIG).
The group bringing the case had asked the judge to order ANL to unredact some of the documents the company had provided for the legal proceedings.
Mr Justice Nicklin ordered that 'targeted' un-redactions be made where necessary to assess whether certain journalists had a pattern of engaging in UIG.
He said: 'In my judgment, considering Associated's denials of wrongdoing, the claimants are entitled to explore whether they can advance a case, with a real prospect of success, that the pleaded journalists have a propensity to engage in UIG.'
A trial of the claims is expected to start in January and last for nine weeks.

Meghan Markle's 'worrying' plans to 'outshine' royals that left Palace terrified
The Duchess of Sussex has openly admitted her struggles when adjusting to royal life, but one royal author says her plans when operating as a working royal left Buckingham Palace worried Meghan Markle's life changed overnight when she met Prince Harry, and it's no secret that she struggled to adjust to royal life before the couple's self-exile to the States. And she's not the only one who found life inside palace walls a heavy cross to bear. The late Queen's sister, Princess Margaret, famously resented playing "second fiddle" her whole life, and Prince Philip's world was upended when Elizabeth II suddenly became monarch. Princess Diana 's painful divorce led to her suffering with depression, for which she claimed she got no support from the royal family. Despite struggling with the contraints of royal life at times, few would try to break the mould in an establishment that prides itself on tradition. But not only did the Duchess of Sussex try to map out her own personal career as a working royal, she also tried to 'outshine' other royals - including the late Queen - according to a royal author. Tom Quinn, writing in his royal biography Yes Ma'am, claims that Meghan sparked panic in the Palace during her short stint as a working royal when she indicated that she wanted to operate separately from the Queen. The author penned: " Buckingham Palace became really worried when they became aware that Meghan had plans for her life as a working royal that were not going to be part of a general strategy agreed with the staff – she just wanted to do her own thing. "Which is fair enough if you're not a member of a tightly controlled institution, but it was never going to be acceptable that Meghan should outshine Princess Anne, Prince Charles [as he then was] and Elizabeth the Queen." Speaking to the author, a former courtier for the late Queen said: "Elizabeth always had to be the centre and focus of everything the Royal Family did and I don't think Meghan understood why that had to make her do things she didn't want to do. "She didn't understand that when you join the Royal Family, you don't do as you please, you do as you're told. In a sense, you become a servant of the family." According to insiders quoted in the book, Meghan found it hard to get her head around the many protocols and traditions associated with the Firm - and she allegedly had a scathing assessment of the senior members. Quinn writes: "Meghan really disliked the hierarchy," a member of her former team said. "Many of the rules do seem pretty pointless and exist only so that the relative status of each senior royal is protected. And the senior royals are such a sensitive bunch — if one gets a gold pen or a new car, they all want one. Meghan thought they behaved like babies." The Sussexes recalled Meghan's introduction to royal life in their six-part Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, and discussed her first meeting with the late Queen after they began dating in 2016. "My grandmother was the first senior member of the family that Meghan met," Prince Harry said in the docuseries. "She had no idea what it all consisted of. So it was a bit of a shock to the system for her." Meghan then shared that while they were on their way to meet the Queen, Prince Harry asked her if she knew how to curtsy. "We were in the car, driving and he's like: 'You know how to curtsy right?' and I just thought it was a joke," the Duchess admitted. Prince Harry acknowledged the difficulty of explaining royal protocol to his American girlfriend, saying: "How do you explain that to people? How do you explain that you bow to your grandmother? And that you would need to curtsy, especially to an American. That's weird." British man orders McDonald's in Benidorm and cost of two meals leaves him floored
A man was left gobsmacked when he purchased two meals from McDonald's in Benidorm, wondering why it was that price. He also complimented the view from the restaurant No matter where in Europe you go, chances are, you won't be too far away from a McDonald's. It's cheap, cheerful, and if you're a fussy eater in need of some home comforts while you're away, it's the perfect place to nip with pals. But when one Brit in Benidorm ordered two meals from the Spanish Maccies, he was left floored at how much it cost him. "Could this be the nicest McDonald's in the whole entire world?" Harry, who posts on TikTok as @harrytokky, asked his followers. He showed the view from the Maccies, saying: "You're not gonna get better than this." Unlike your typical Maccies outlets, this one looks out onto the sea. But he then joked "who cares about the view," saying that he was going to go inside because he was "desperate for a Happy Meal". Sitting outside, he said: "And just like that, the food has arrived. Now you will not believe how cheap this was. We've got two meals here. Guess how much this costs? €11 (£9.53)". Harry continued, explaining that there are two fries, two burgers, two drinks, and some chicken nuggets on the side as well. He gushed: "I mean, €11? What do you think guys? I think that's an absolute bargain, let's be honest. €11? In the UK, that'd probably be at least £20." In the UK, a large Big Mac meal costs around £7.69, depending on location. Meanwhile, six chicken nuggets cost around £3.49, depending on location. So Harry is right, it is significantly cheaper in Benidorm. The whole meal would cost roughly £18.87, which is 98% more expensive! While some people in the comments section moaned that Benidorm McDonald's has "slow" service, others said the wait was well worth it. One said they'd had the "best Big Mac" ever at the Benidorm Maccies, while another gushed it was the "best view" you'll get under the Golden Arches. However, the taste may differ. One visitor remarked: "Their chicken nuggets are definitely different from English ones". People have also taken to TripAdvisor to share their experiences of Benidorm's McDonald's. One said it was a "fantastic" place to get "cheap food on vacation" while in Spain. Meanwhile, another reviewer wrote: "Visited this McDonald's as we wanted something like home while on holidays, and it was a great experience. I got the McCrispy Burger meal, and we got the bacon & cheese wedges for sharing, and it was all so delicious! "It came out slightly colder than we would have liked, but we still ate it. The restaurant was clean and the staff were lovely! "We used the machines as you entered to order our food, and they provided all languages. McFlurry was great as well. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family".
