Nintendo announces upgraded Switch 2 editions of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom
The Switch 2 is also capable of up to 120 FPS, so you're likely to see a difference. For reference, Tears of the Kingdom on the original Switch was locked at 30 FPS in both the Switch's handheld and TV modes.
Also, the new mobile Switch App will have new Zelda-specific features for these new editions. It can turn your smartphone into a (sort-of) Sheikah Slate. It'll guide you around maps with voiced directions, and you'll be able to share your creations with QR codes so that others can create your Mad Max destruction machines in their games.
And if you're a Switch Online subscriber with the Expansion pack, you'll get both upgraded iterations for free, provided you own the originals.

Nintendo has been on a roll with surprise Nintendo Direct announcements, so here are all of the Partner Showcase announcements from the Direct announced just yesterday. The last Nintendo Direct was dedicated to only Mario Kart World, giving fans a sneak peek at what's under the hood for the latest Nintendo Kart racer. Now that Mario Kart World is out, Nintendo sets its eyes on the future and has unleashed a new Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase for fans to check out everything playable on Nintendo consoles, but not published by the company itself. Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 is out in the wild, titles like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition can be played on a Nintendo console, giving fans a new catalogue of games and opportunities that may become available for the Nintendo successor console. Unfortunately, FromSoftware's The Duskbloods did not make an appearance, but other exciting and surprising announcements did. Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase July 2025: Everything Announced Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection The first announcement made at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase in July 2025 is a return for the Monster Hunter Stories franchise on Nintendo. The next title in the Monster Hunter Stories franchise after Wings of Ruin launched way back in 2021, Monster Hunter Stories: Twisted Reflection, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Once Upon a Katamari The next title in the Katamari franchise is coming to Nintendo consoles, and it allows players to do battle by competing to see who can build the biggest Katamari. Once Upon a Katamari launches on Nintendo Switch on October 24. Just Dance 2026 Edition The next title in the Ubisoft Just Dance franchise is coming to the Nintendo Switch console, and it features a party mode letting fans hit the dance floor together. Just Dance 2026 Edition launches on October 14. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Dragon Ball's latest fighting title is finally coming to both Nintendo Switch consoles. Everything fans enjoyed from the previous Sparking! Zero release is included—this time with added motion controls exclusive to the Nintendo versions. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero launches on both Nintendo Switch systems on Nov. 14. Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted The original Plants vs. Zombies experience is coming back in glorious HD, and it will be available for both Nintendo consoles. Persona 3 Reload is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Fans will have to face the Dark Hour on Nintendo Switch 2 when Persona 3 Reload arrives on October 23. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment The next title in the Hyrule Warriors franchise has been revealed, and it will cover the canonical events that occurred before The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans will be able to tell the untold story of the Imprisoning War when Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 this Winter. Chillin' by the Fire A cozy firebuilding simulator was then revealed at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, and it allows players to hang out around a digital campfire. Chillin' By The Campfire, surprisingly, launches later today exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Hela In Hela, fans will step behidn the furry shoes of a tiny mouse exploring a stunning world inspired by Scandinavian folklore. This small Nintendo Switch 2 co-op mouse-laden adventure arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026. Star Wars Outlaws The latest Star Wars title is finally coming to Nintendo. Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws and the adventures of the scoundrel Kay Vess are coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4. Cronos: The New Dawn As an agent of a secret collective, you'll need to uncover the mysteries of the world while travelling through a dystopian time-jumping survival horror narrative. Rifts will allow players to travel back in time and meet people from the past to enhance the player's abilities, but doing so will make your character closer to losing their sanity. Cronos: New Dawn launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 5. Yakuza Kiwami & Yakuza Kiwami 2 The Yakuza franchise is back on Nintendo, and only for Nintendo Switch 2! Fans will be able to embody the Dragon of Dojima, Kazuma Kiryu, once again in Yakuza Kiwami and its sequel when it launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 13. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales A brand new HD-2D action RPG has been announced from Square Enix at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, and players will explore this world as the adventurer Elliot alongside his companion fairy, Fae. From the creators of Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, combat is surprisingly deep, with seven weapon types in total. Elliot can equip different types of magicite to change things up. Players can control Elliot and Fae separately, or two players can play both characters at the same time. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is for Nintendo Switch 2, and it will launch next year. Octopath Traveler 0 The last announcement at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase is the next title in the Octopath Traveler series, and another HD-2D title deployed by Square Enix on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Fans can expect to experience a story of restoration and retribution over the divine rings, set in the realm of Orsterra. Octopath Traveler 0 will land on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on December 4. That wraps the entire Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase for July 2025. Nintendo Announces U.S. Price Rises for Original Switch, Warns Price Rises for Switch 2, Games, and the NSO Membership ‘May Be Necessary in the Future'
Nintendo has announced a range of price rises for various OG Switch products in the U.S., and warned price rises for the Switch 2, video games, and the Nintendo Switch Online membership may be coming down the line. The price rises, which are "based on market conditions," Nintendo said, come into effect on August 3. However, they briefly kicked in at Target, as spotted by Wario64 on X / Twitter. Assuming the new prices shown at Target are correct, they are as follows: Nintendo price rises announced August 1, 2025: Nintendo Switch: $339.99 (up from $299.99) Nintendo Switch OLED: $399.99 (up from $349.99) Nintendo Switch Lite: $229.99 (up from from $199.99) Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo: $110 (up from $99.99) Joy-Con 2 controllers: $100 (up from $94.99) The announcement comes a month after Nintendo signalled price rises in Canada, which were also "based on market conditions." Nintendo has yet to go into further detail. In today's announcement, Nintendo said that the newly-launched Switch 2, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as a Nintendo Switch Online membership, will not be impacted by the impending price adjustment, though all models of the original Switch (the OG Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED) are impacted. "Certain" Switch 2 accessories, "select" amiibo, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, will also see their prices go up, Nintendo continued. In the financial results, Nintendo said the OG Switch was still continue to hold its own despite its age and the launch of the Switch 2. The number of annual Nintendo-playing users between July 2024 and June 2025 has remained above 100 million, which means Nintendo launched Switch 2 into an environment where a huge number of people were already playing Switch. This $30 Gamepad Is the First to Support a Critical Switch 2 Feature
GuliKit is now offering the Elves 2 wireless gamepad. It's an surprisingly high-end controller with an affordable $30 price tag, though it's most notable for its Switch 2 wake-from-sleep functionality, which other third-party gamepads currently lack. One of the most annoying parts of the original Nintendo Switch was its remote wake functionality. Not only was it somewhat unreliable (even with official Joy-Cons), but a lot of third-party controllers just couldn't wake up the console. So, if you used an unofficial controller, there's a good chance that you couldn't turn on the Nintendo Switch from the comfort of your couch. Instead, you may have been forced to stand up, walk over to the docked Switch, and press its power button like some sort of 20th century caveman. Nintendo revised its wake-from-sleep protocol for the Switch 2. It's more reliable than it was before, which is awesome. But the downside, unfortunately, is that existing third-party controllers like the GuliKit Elves 2 Pro do not support Nintendo's new protocol. GuliKit cracked the code to the Switch 2's new wake-up protocol last month. Now, the company is releasing its first gamepad with Switch 2 wake-from-sleep functionality—the $30 Elves 2. The Elves 2 is practically identical to the $50 Elves 2 Pro that launched last year. Both gamepads feature Hall-effect joysticks, a Sega Saturn-like "floating" D-pad, six-axis gyro, and the ability to wake a docked Nintendo Switch from sleep. But Elves 2 adds Switch 2 wake-from-sleep support, which is a feature that the older "Pro" controller still lacks (though this discrepancy could be resolved by a firmware update at some point). GuliKit cut some corners in order to get the Elves 2 down to its $30 price point, of course, but all of the downgrades are fairly minor. The Elves 2 uses a crappier haptic motor than the Elves 2 Pro, so it doesn't support HD Rumble. It also lacks macro recording functionality, and unlike the Pro model, its buttons can't be remapped. I should take a moment to clarify that these are not just Nintendo Switch controllers. The Elves 2 and Elves 2 Pro are standard Bluetooth controllers, so they work with PCs, smartphones, and Steam Decks, too. You'll need to use an adapter if you want to pair these controllers with an Xbox or PlayStation, however. You can buy the GuliKit Elves 2 controller today for $30. It's sold in red and black colorways. If you want some additional functionality, such as upgraded haptics, spring for the $50 GuliKit Elves 2 Pro. Just know that GuliKit hasn't announced a Switch 2 wake-from-sleep firmware update for the Elves 2 Pro. I don't know whether the Pro controller will actually gain this functionality.
