Hibs predicted XI for Scottish Premiership kick-off

Hibs predicted XI for Scottish Premiership kick-off

Scotsman2 days ago
Pick the same starting XI and hope they get the job done. All being equal, that would seem a pretty simple formula for Hibs at Dens Park today. Yeah, simple ...
The issue, of course, is that a lot of the guys who SHOULD be expected to start against Dundee played a lot of minutes in Thursday night's Europa League contest with Midtjylland at Easter Road, which went into extra time before the Danes scored a dramatic late winner. Physically, as well as emotionally, a few of David Gray's go-to performers might not be feeling at their absolute best. Which is never ideal on day one of their domestic season.
Hibs also travel to Belgrade on Wednesday to take on Partizan in the Europa Conference League the following night. Does the manager hold anything in reserve for that one? The club have never made it to European group/league phase football, so the prize on offer must be pretty tempting.
On a day when Josh Mulligan is making a return to Dens, however, it's not as if Gray has a lot of options. Nicky Cadden played less than half an hour in midweek, stepping down at half-time in extra time with a tight hamstring after coming on as a sub midway through the second half. Hibs are still a midfielder short. The back three are set in stone. And new striker Thibault Klidje is yet to show much, in limited appearances.
With all of that in mind, we probably shouldn't expect too many changes. Probably. Anyway, here's how we think the visitors - still without Joe Newell, Rudi Molotnikov and Lewis Miller, for different reasons - might line up:
1 . GK Jordan Smith
Absolutely outstanding in the midweek loss to Midtjylland, with the Danes requiring a couple of world-class strikes to beat the 30-year-old Englishman. | SNS Group Photo Sales
2 . RCB Warren O'Hora
Irish defender was another who emerged from his Europa League baptism of fire with credit. Back to the bread and butter menu of SPFL action today. | SNS Group Photo Sales
3 . CB Rocky Bushiri
A force of nature. Has already started the season as he means to go on. With drama. So much drama. | SNS Group Photo Sales
4 . LCB Jack Iredale
Looked absolutely spent - and possibly a little hurt - by the time he was replaced in extra time on Thursday night. Hibs could drop Jordan Obita into the back three, at a pinch. | SNS Group Photo Sales

Ben Doak stars for Liverpool in pre-season with youngster earning rave reviews before key Scotland fixtures

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BEN DOAK burst onto the Scottish national scene last year as Steve Clarke brought the youngster into the fold. But the Liverpool star who was on loan at Middlesbrough last campaign had his season cut short by injury. But Doak has been involved heavily in Arne Slot's pre season even starting Monday night's clash with Athletic Bilbao. The winger impressed in his 56 minute showing against the Reds European opposition. He played a crucial part in helping Liverpool go into a two nil lead early on, putting a key cross in to the box which Darwin Nunez eventually finished off. The young Scotsman also thought he ended up on the score sheet as his strike ended up in the back of the net, but it went down as an own-goal. Despite not officially making it on the score-sheet, Liverpool fans raved about the youngster's performance on social media. Liverpool posted an image of the youngster on X, and fans made their feelings known in the replies. "I have a LOT of faith in Ben Doak" one fan replied. Another added: "Our future's extremely bright." "It was a cross good approach play by him, direct, making things happen," said another. COFFEE CLUB Has Ben Doak been mishandled by Scotland manager Steve Clarke? A fourth supporter called him a "special talent". A Celtic fan also replied, pleading to Doak's former club to snap the youngster up on a loan deal. He featured just twice for the Hoops before his move to Liverpool, one of those appearances coming in an Old Firm. But he has heavily impressed for Scotland, and has picked up six caps for his country. In a squad that lacks wide players, Ben Doak is exactly the type of player that Steve Clarke needs. And the Tartan Army will be relieved to see the electric winger back firing for the Reds. Scotland have key World Cup qualifiers coming up this year, starting with games against Denmark and Belarus in September. With his pre-injury form for Scotland, many fans will be calling for the youngster to be thrown straight back into Steve Clarke's starting 11. Hamilton Accies have vowed to ban a section of their own support indefinitely after accusing them of "appalling behaviour" during a protest against the board on Saturday. A group of Accies fans staged a demonstration outside Broadwood Stadium ahead of the opening League One match of the season against Montrose amid anger over the club's move out of Hamilton to Cumbernauld after failing to negotiate a lease with the owners of New Douglas Park. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Supporters are also demanding the exits of director of football Gerry Strain and club owner Seref Zengin after the club was hit with several SPFL sanctions, including a 15-point deduction last season, which resulted in relegation, and the recently imposed year-long transfer embargo for failing to fulfil tax obligations to HMRC. Hamilton chairman Jock Brown branded the actions of the supporters "completely unacceptable" in a strongly-worded statement posted on the club website on Monday. Brown, the former Celtic general manager, stated: "Our opening league match of the season on Saturday was blighted seriously by people who have the audacity to call themselves Accies supporters. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad "A 'protest' took place at Broadwood which necessitated police intervention and heaped shame on the perpetrators who verbally abused decent supporters collecting their tickets – including our oldest season ticket holder and a teenage boy, a minor, who were subjected to disgusting foul and abusive language. "I have always supported peaceful protest, so long as it shows complete respect to innocent members of the public. What happened on Saturday was nothing short of a disgrace. Not only were our decent supporters abused, but members of North Lanarkshire Council and club staff carrying out their match day duties. Hamilton Accies chairman Jock Brown. | SNS Group "That is all completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We are taking steps now to ban the ringleaders of that shocking behaviour from all our matches indefinitely. "We are well aware that Accies fans did not want to move away from Hamilton. Neither did any member of the board. But we have already explained why staying at New Douglas Park was impossible. No other location in Hamilton was suitable so the temporary move to Broadwood was necessary. We have a two-year lease with an option for a further year. During that time we shall do everything possible to identify and develop a new site in Hamilton.

The reason Mikey Moore won't feature for Rangers against Viktoria Plzen but club trying for Oliver Antman inclusion

Gers face the Czechs in the first leg of their third round qualifier on Tuesday night Rangers will be without Mikey Moore for their crunch Champions League qualifier with Viktoria Plzen - but latest recruit Oliver Antman could line-up for the first leg showdown at Ibrox. ‌ Russell Martin 's men take on the Czech side in the third round of qualifying tomorrow night - with the winner going onto face the victor of the tie between Club Brugge and and FC Salzburg in the play-off round. ‌ Should Rangers fall, Martin's side are still guaranteed European football, with the loser of the tie dropping into the revamped group stage of the Europa League. ‌ The former Southampton boss has sealed a deal worth around £4million to bring in Finland international Antman from Go Ahead Eagles, taking his summer signing tally to nine. And while Gers are hopeful to get him registered in time ahead of UEFA's 11pm deadline tonight, Moore won't make the cut. The 17-year-old arrived on a season-long loan from Tottenham on Friday but Record Sport understands his clearance from UEFA to get the green light has suffered a delay due to his U18 status. ‌ Moore was at Fir Park on Saturday as Gers played out a 1-1 draw with Motherwell. The rest of the Light Blues new recruits are all expected to make the squad, with Thelo Aasgaard still unable to make his competitive debut with an injury picked up in pre-season. ‌ Another man who won't be in action in the first leg clash with Plzen is Hamza Igamane who is yet to get up to speed under his new boss. Djeidi Gassama netted in both legs of the 3-1 aggregate victory against Panathinaikos and will hope to continue his fine start to life at Ibrox following his £2.2million switch from Sheffield Wednesday. Gers have been left reeling from Saturday's draw at Fir Park in their Premiership opener, with Martin letting his rip at his new-look squad after watching them fail to collect three points on matchday one for the third season running. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers page and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
