Peter Nguyen-Ha convicted of murdering innocent man Ralph Matthews Cox in his bedroom

A drug dealer who fired a shotgun through the front window of a home in suburban Perth, killing an innocent man in his own bedroom, has been convicted of murder.
Peter Nguyen-Ha, 35, has been on trial for seven weeks, accused of murdering Ralph Matthews Cox in Landsdale in January 2022.
The Supreme Court was told Nguyen-Ha was looking for revenge after being assaulted and robbed by a man named Anthony Prior.
While Prior did live at the Landsdale home, he was not there when Nguyen-Ha arrived in the early hours of the morning and fired a 12-gauge shotgun.
Instead, the pellets hit and killed Ralph Matthews Cox, who did not know Nguyen-Ha and had no involvement in the drug world.
The jury deliberated for two days before finding Nguyen-Ha guilty of one charge of murder, as well as five counts of doing an act likely to endanger life.
During his trial, Nguyen-Ha admitted firing the gun twice but claimed he replaced the shotgun shells with pellets filled with rock salt.
He told the court it was his alleged accomplice, Matthew Gempton, who fired a third, fatal shot with a different gun.
Gempton, a self-described debt collector, already received a reduced sentence for manslaughter over his role in the shooting after agreeing to be a key witness in Nguyen-Ha's trial.
He admitted being Nguyen-Ha's driver in the shooting but said it was his accomplice who fired the gun.
The intended target of the shooting, Anthony Prior, admitted in court he had bashed Nguyen-Ha and stolen tens of thousands of dollars from him in late 2021, in a set-up which involved fake drugs.
That triggered two earlier shootings at homes in Perth's northern suburbs in which Nguyen-Ha, along with Gempton, were targeting Prior.
The prosecution maintained that in those shootings Nguyen-Ha was not a "mere bystander" but was a planner, and that he was indeed the lone gunman in the final Landsdale shooting.
On that night, Mr Cox and his partner were asleep in their front bedroom and stirred when they heard someone outside.
He said "I've been hit", when he was shot, the court heard.
Nguyen-Ha will face a sentencing hearing on August 22.

Mum charged after girl, 3, found dead in suitcase

The body of a three-year-old girl has been found wrapped in plastic cling wrap inside a suitcase, police in the US have confirmed. Little Nola Dinkins was reported missing in Delaware on June 10 by her mother, who claimed her daughter was snatched at gunpoint by an unknown man in an SUV, triggering an amber alert. Cops quickly discovered the kidnap claim was false, cancelling the alert, and a body was located the following day in a vacant lot in Cecil County, Maryland. On July 11, a spokesperson for the Maryland State Police told People that the remains were those of Nola. Her mother, Darrian Randle, from North East, Maryland, has been arrested under several charges including first and second degree murder and child abuse leading to the death of a minor. The 31-year-old's boyfriend Cedrick Antoine Britten, 44, has also been arrested and faces charges including being an accessory to first and second degree murder and failing to report the death of a child. The child's body was found by police who had been asked to visit Randle's last known address where they located Britten. 'Further investigation led to potential criminal activity which subsequently led to the recovery of human remains in a vacant lot in North East, Maryland,' a police statement read. Court documents seen by NBC 10 and WBAL-TV detail how Britten allegedly drew a map for cops that led to Nola's body. She was found emaciated and 'completely wrapped in Saran Wrap (cling wrap),' officials said in the charging document. Her mother allegedly admitted that she beat the toddler 15 to 20 times with a belt until she was unresponsive while at Britten's house on June 9. Britten allegedly attempted CPR which failed and so the couple allegedly put Nola in the car and drove around for a while before returning to the house and putting her body inside a blue suitcase. They then left the baggage on the stairs to the basement before disposing of it the following day, Randle told cops. Randle claimed that Britten had helped her in dumping the case. No pleas or lawyer details have yet been provided in online court records. Randle remains in custody at Baylor Women's Correctional Institution in New Castle, Delaware, and will be extradited to Maryland. Meanwhile, Britten is being held without bond until his trial date at the Cecil County Detention Center. If found guilty, both face life behind bars. Dad's heartbreak Nola's devastated father Dominique Dinkins has set up a GoFundMe page in her memory to raise money for the funeral and to go towards attorney's fees. 'Our beloved Nola Q. Dinkins, my one and only child, brought an infectious energy and warmth to everyone she met,' he wrote in dedication to his daughter. 'From the moment I first held her, my life changed for the better. 'Nola made me a better man, brother, son, and most importantly, a father. 'We ask that you keep our family in your prayers as we navigate this loss,' he added. 'Nola's love and joy will never fade, and we will carry her memory forward, sharing her light with others just as she did with us.' At the time of writing, the fundraiser has received almost $7000 in donations.

Fourth person charged with murder of Aussie surfers Callum and Jake Robinson in Mexico

A fourth person has been charged with the alleged killings of two Australian surfers and their American friend in three allegedly execution-style murders in Mexico. The ABC reports that Irineo Francisco is the latest to be named and charged for the killings of Perth brothers Callum and Jake Robinson and American Jack Carter Rhoad on a surfing trip in Mexico's Baja California. Mr Francisco joins fellow co-accused Jesús Gerardo, Ari Gisell, and Ángel Jesús, whose surnames are under suppression. The ABC spoke to prosecutor Miguel Ángel Gaxiola Rodríguez, who said that the four alleged killers had attempted to rob the trio, having found foreigners in an isolated location, and there was no evidence of cartel involvement. Prosecutors will allege the incident was a robbery-gone wrong. Mr Gaxiola Rodríguez told the ABC that the state had a strong case. 'We have compelling evidence, including witness statements, and we have found the vehicle,' she said. 'The objective is to ensure that the accused are brought to trial and convicted of the homicide and robbery.' The Robinson brothers were on a surfing trip in Mexico in April last year with Mr Rhoad, but were reported missing on April 27. Their bodies were found at the bottom of a well on May 3 in which investigators also found another body, unrelated to the case. Investigators said that all three men were shot in the back of the head with a single bullet. The first arrest was made on May 1 when Ari Gisell was pulled over for a routine traffic stop. She reportedly threw 100g of meth on the ground and attempted to flee, and up on searching the vehicle officers found a iPhone belonging to Mr Rhoad and more narcotics. She then turned in two of the men including Jesús Gerardo, who she said had told her: 'I f*cked up three gringos.' All three men faces charges of aggravated homicide, aggravated robbery, violent robbery, grand theft auto and forced disappearance. Ari Gisell faces all the same charges except forced disappearance. Three wooden statues have been installed six weeks ago overlooking the Northern Baja coast in memory of the three men. The Callum and Jake Robinson Foundation posted on social media about the unveiling, saying the statues honour lives that 'continue to inspire'. 'Yesterday's unveiling ceremony brought together surfers, representatives from the Australian embassy and the Baja California governor's office. ' After a few words were shared, the community honoured the boys with a traditional paddle out. 'We are deeply grateful for the continued love, remembrance, and support from around the world.'
