Not a physical move but a change of mindset, values, says Religious Affairs Minister in Maal Hijrah speech
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) said this in his opening speech during the Ma'al Hijrah celebration at the Malaysia International Trade and Convention Centre (Mitec) here Friday (June 27) officiated by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
"Today, hijrah is no longer physical but a transformation of values and mindset.
"We are called to migrate from passivity to proactivity, from dependency to self-determination.
"This is the true meaning of hijrah in building a Madani nation. Therefore, let us, as agents of change, embrace knowledge, uphold values, prioritise unity, and respect differences.
"This year, the Ma'al Hijrah celebration carries the theme 'Building a Madani Ummah', a vision that deeply aligns with the spirit of the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) hijrah.
"This theme calls upon us to revive the role of the ummah (community) as agents of mercy, justice, and progress – to build a society rooted in values and anchored in faith," said Mohd Na'im.
He further stressed the need for respect and tolerance by Muslims in a multiracial and multi-religious country.
"We must emulate the solidarity between the Muhajirin (migrants) and the Ansar (residents of Madinah) during the Prophet's time, which was built on faith, not lineage.
"This was further strengthened by the introduction of the Constitution of Madinah, a foundation for a peaceful and just multi-ethnic society based on faith and brotherhood (ukhuwwah)," said Mohd Na'im.

Yesterday, Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that an investigation was underway following a police report lodged by the preacher's second wife on June 16. She alleged that he had circulated explicit videos involving her, his first wife, and several other women. The suspect has since been released on police bail pending completion of investigations under Section 509 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. Mohd Na'im also reminded religious speakers to uphold Islamic principles and use their knowledge to guide the community, not engage in behaviour that undermines the integrity of religious institutions. 'Any preacher found to have acted in a manner that tarnishes the image of religious institutions will have their accreditation revoked by the respective state religious authorities. 'I also encourage the public to verify the credentials of any invited speaker with the State Mufti Department or religious authority to ensure they are truly certified,' he added.

Family Of Late Nurly Sahirah Receives RM7,500 Contribution
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- The family of the late Nurly Sahirah Azman, one of the 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who died in a bus crash in Gerik, Perak, last month, has received RM7,500 in contribution from several agencies. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar handed over the contribution to her family during a visit to their home in Kampung Gong Pasir, Kerandang, Jertih, yesterday to help ease their burden. In his Facebook post today, Mohd Na'im said the contribution comprised RM2,000 from Yayasan Taqwa (Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council – MAIWP), RM1,000 from the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation, RM600 from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia-Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia (JAKIM-YWM) Musa'adah Fund and RM400 from the MAIWP Zakat Collection Centre.
