Colorado junior cornerback DJ McKinney was named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list on Wednesday.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded annually to a student-athlete who best exhibits the characteristics of Ronnie Lott by making an IMPACT on and off the field. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
McKinney started all 13 games during the 2024 season, playing the most defensive snaps (840) on the team. He finished the year with 62 total tackles (third on the team), 44 unassisted tackles, nine pass breakups, three interceptions, three tackles for loss and one forced fumble. He ranked fourth in the Big 12 in pass deflections.
Entering 2025, McKinney has a strong case of becoming the top cornerback in the Big 12 and Colorado's best defensive player.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list includes 42 defensive players selected by the award's board of directors. The award is presented each December.
Travis Hunter won the award last year, giving Colorado a chance to have back-to-back winners.

Bowe Bentley moves up in Rivals updated 2026 recruiting rankings
New Oklahoma Sooners offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle liked what he saw early on in the 2026 recruiting class, specifically Celina (Texas) High School quarterback Bowe Bentley. Since then, OU's new offensive play-caller has been able to sit back and watch as the rest of the country caught up in their evaluation of Bentley. Arbuckle offered the four-star prospect early on in his time with the Sooners, after a junior season in which Bentley led Celina to a perfect season and a state championship. Plenty of other programs like Georgia and LSU came around on Bentley and showed plenty of interest. Still, the lifelong Sooner fan committed to Oklahoma last month, picking OU over LSU. Now, it looks like some of the recruiting services are giving Bentley more love as well. Rivals released their updated Rivals300 rankings on Monday, with Bentley coming in as the No. 4 QB currently in the recruiting class of 2026. Bentley now slots in behind only three signal-callers in the 2026 class in Rivals' rankings. Five-star prospects Dia Bell (committed to Texas) and Jared Curtis (committed to Georgia) top the list, with fellow four-star Faizon Brandon (committed to Tennessee) ranked one spot above Bentley. If all holds, Rivals' top four 2026 QBs would all be headed to the SEC. Bentley is Rivals' No. 41 player nationally, and the No. 2 player in the state of Texas. He's ranked higher than the player he took the spot of in OU's 2026 recruiting class, as Florida State commit Jaden O'Neal was ranked as the No. 27 QB by Rivals. Bentley is hoping to help end a long line of blue-chip quarterback recruits for the Sooners that finished their careers elsewhere. While Oklahoma has had plenty of success with transfer QBs over the last decade, their best high school signees have typically transferred out of the program before their careers were over, despite OU landing plenty of five-stars on the recruiting trail. Blake Bell was Oklahoma's last five-star quarterback recruit to finish his career in Norman, but he finished college football playing tight end. Bentley may not be a five-star yet, but he's hoping to change Oklahoma's fortunes in QB recruiting, as he's in line to be the face of the program at some point down the road. Iowa basketball offers five-star PG Cayden Daughtry in 2027 class
Iowa basketball is already starting their recruiting for the class of 2027. And they're swinging for the fences. On Saturday, Ben McCollum sent an offer to one of the best players in the entire 2027 class in five-star point guard Cayden Daughtry. The 6-foot 155-pound guard from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Calvary Christian Academy is the 17th best prospect in the entire country according to 247Sports. Daughtry took to X to announce the offer from the Hawkeyes. Daughtry is a highly sought after prospect, already receiving offers from 19 schools including Iowa, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers and Villanova among others. And by taking a look at his stats from this past season, it's easy to see why so many schools are interested in Daughtry's talents. He averaged 16.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game last season as a sophomore at Calvary Christian Academy. He led the team in assists and steals and was second in scoring on a team that went 22-1 and was ranked as the fifth best high school team in the nation last season according to MaxPreps. And he still has two years left in high school to keep getting better and better. Daughtry is the seventh player that Iowa has offered in the 2027 class and is the highest ranked player in that pool. If Iowa can get him to commit, he'll be one of the highest ranked recruits in the history of the Iowa basketball program. It's clear that Ben McCollum is changing the culture of the program and Hawkeye fans should be excited about the future of the team under his watch. Former Wisconsin basketball star shines in NBA Summer League debut
Former Wisconsin basketball star John Tonje shined for the Utah Jazz in his NBA Summer League debut on Monday. In Utah's exhibition against the San Antonio Spurs, the Nebraska native accounted for 16 points, three rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes of action. He did so off an efficient 5-of-9 clip from the field and 4-of-7 mark from 3-point range, something Badger fans grew accustomed to during his collegiate tenure in Madison. As a starter alongside Kyle Filipowski, Isaiah Collier, Cody Williams and Elijah Harkless, Tonje's first bucket arrived with roughly nine minutes to spare in the opening frame. Collier, who played college basketball at USC during the 2023-24 season, rifled a pass to the former Badger in the left corner. Tonje, who nearly set the single-season scoring mark for UW a season ago, drilled his first shot attempt. Arguably, his most critical bucket arrived with 36 ticks remaining in the fourth quarter. Down 82-80, Tonje found himself open on the left wing off an off-ball screen. Collier, who tallied 12 assists in the contest, found him for a wide-open look from deep. The attempt lifted Utah to an 83-82 edge before former Rutgers star Dylan Harper sent the game into overtime. The Spurs would ultimately secure a 93-91 triumph in the extra period courtesy of a game-winning look from Riley Minix. Nonetheless, Tonje made his presence felt throughout the bulk of his time on the hardwood. Prior to Monday, Utah did play several summer league contests in both Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, games that Tonje missed with a right ankle ailment. His former Badger and current Jazz teammate, Steven Crowl, did not play on Monday. The 6-foot-5 wing arrived in Utah after being selected with the 53rd overall pick of the 2025 NBA draft. His stellar 19.6-point, 5.3-rebound, 1.8-assist per game output at Wisconsin in 2024-25 lifted him into professional conversations. He witnessed his NBA dreams morph into a reality on June 26. The Jazz will continue their summer league slate with a test against the Washington Wizards at 10:00 p.m. ET on June 16.
