You know you really are in billionaire territory when a 30-carat ring doesn't cut it: ALISON BOSHOFF on the inside story of the Bezos wedding
The gospel choir sang Steve Winwood's Higher Love, the bride wore a brand new diamond ring and the groom was safely delivered by water taxi. In an event which was simultaneously wildly elite and deeply tacky, and amid heavy security, with a strong police presence and dozens of private ex-services bodyguards, Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos exchanged vows with his second wife, Lauren Sanchez. His first marriage, to mousy Mackenzie Scott, was a quiet affair at the Breakers Hotel in Florida 's Palm Beach in 1993. This ceremonial nuptial (the legal end having been concluded some time ago) was instead a spectacle for the world, hyped as 'the wedding of the century'. It took place in the 'green theatre', a renovated amphitheatre in a forest situated on the Venetian island of San Giorgio Maggiore, where the Cini Foundation runs a museum and art galleries on the site of a former monastery. The forest was transformed into an enchanted garden, with lanterns, flowers, chandeliers, and tables laid out alongside the maze. And by the time the celebrities, politicians and business titans had arrived for the spectacle, one thing was sure: nobody bought the rumour that Bezos was getting out of this spending a measly $5 million any more. Indeed, to emphasise the billionaire-ness of it all, before the exchange of rings between bride and groom Sanchez had done another exchange of rings of her own. Her 30-carat $3 million pink diamond, presented by Bezos when he asked her to marry him two years ago, had been switched to her right hand... and in its place a yet larger, brilliant-white diamond, estimated at 35 carats and worth $8-$10 million. You know that you are moving with the 0.001 per cent when a 30-carat diamond isn't quite up to the occasion. The socking great diamond upgrade rather gives lie to earlier claims that their three-day wedding is a simple – virtually low-budget – affair for close friends and family only. In fact there were more celebrities than anyone had predicted, from Leonardo DiCaprio and Oprah to the Kardashians and Sydney Sweeney. And of course, as revealed by the Mail yesterday, the couple actually got legally married quietly over a month ago, which is why no wedding licence has been taken out by them in Venice. Promptly at 4.30pm local time, around two hours before her guests started to arrive for the ceremony, Sanchez hopped into a water taxi and headed for San Giorgio Maggiore. She wore a Dior cream skirt suit, a silk 'Brides de Gala en Fleurs' Hermes headscarf and carried a Hermes Kelly bag in black crocodile – and appeared in high spirits, blowing kisses to photographers. Nine minutes later she was being helped ashore, and disappeared from view to get ready. It is a look synonymous with the likes of sophisticated vintage film stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Sophie Loren and Jackie O Lauren put her best fashion foot forward as she completed her chic ensemble with printed headscarf, elegantly wrapped around her chocolate caramel tresses and a pair of classic black Celine sunglasses, along with a black croc-print handbag She was attended by a glam squad of at least five: make-up artists Buster Knight and Laura Mele, hair stylist Sophie Rose and stylist Robbie Gutterman. Samuel Horowitz, who works for Dolce & Gabbana, was on hand to help her into her wedding dress which was created by the pair. The designers, famous for their corseted dresses, are friends of the bride. She was seen visiting their shop in Milan in late April, apparently for a fitting. In a photo uploaded to Instagram by Sanchez, the bride showed off her stunning wedding dress, which contained lacy, floral sleeves, a tight bodice, high neckline, long flowing skirt with an enormous train, and buttons down the front. The glamorous, figure-hugging number showcased her stunning physique. The blushing new bride's long brown tresses were pulled back behind a vail and she wore striking makeup. Her new husband, for his part, donned a chic black tuxedo. Sanchez also posed in the exquisite wedding dress for a pre-wedding photoshoot with Vogue magazine. While chatting with the publication, she recalled feeling like a 'princess' during her dress fitting, which took place in Milan, Italy. 'It was more powerful than I thought,' she added of the moment she put it on for the first time. Her groom arrived two hours later, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana tux, sunglasses, and a beaming smile. During the ceremony guests were serenaded by tenor Matteo Bocelli, son of operatic legend Andrew. Afterwards, there was a dinner by candlelight and chandelier, with huge displays of dendrobium orchids and roses, followed by fireworks. Police were advised that the party was due to break up between 3am and 4am. Local sources say the menu included Spaghetti alla Nerano prepared by Fabrizio Mellino, the chef at Quattro Passi, the 3-star Michelin restaurant located in the picturesque fishing village of Nerano, on the Sorrento Peninsula. It's a family recipe, first created in 1952 and there are three basic ingredients: thick Gragnano handmade spaghetti, fried zucchini and grated provolone cheese. To follow, a top pastry boutique in Minori near Amalfi called Sal De Riso, prepared 'a thousand portions of desserts': mignon pastries, sweets by the glass and single portions of lemon and ricotta and pear delights. There was a wedding cake, of course, baked by the renowned chef Cedric Grolet, the executive pastry chef at Le Meurice in Paris. During the day, newly single actor Orlando Bloom ducked away from the paparazzi to hang out with former American football star Tom Brady, who is the ex husband of Gisele Bundchen. The two men seem to have struck up a strong bond over the days long wedding. On Thursday night Bloom gallantly helped his old friend, socialite Dasha Zhukova (once married to Roman Abramovich) into a water taxi, and was spotted with his arm around Hollywood stylist Jamie Mizrahi. He has known both women for years, and both are married, but that hasn't stopped speculation Bloom is perhaps not all that broken-hearted over the end of his nine-year romance with pop's Katy Perry. Perry, who is on a break during the Australian leg of her tour, was sent a consoling message by Lauren Sanchez who posted: 'We miss you Katy' on her Instagram. Bezos and Sanchez have seven children between them, and all attended the wedding, as did the father of her son Nikko, Tony Gonzalez, and his wife Tobie. Tobie Gonzalez and Sanchez are so close that she came to her hen party in Paris last month. And that's not the end of the festivities – there will be a gala party at the Arsenale in Venice tonight, followed by a smaller post-event brunch pyjama party.

Lauren Sanchez channels her conservative side as she embraces old-fashioned wedding traditions
Something borrowed, something blue - some traditions embraced and some the bride chose not to! Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos are now officially married, with the 61-year-old Amazon founder and his new wife not sparing any expense on their rumored $20 million wedding in Venice, Italy. The duo, whose nuptials have been dubbed the 'wedding of a century,' welcomed nearly 200 VIPs for three days of lavish celebrations. It was previously revealed that Sánchez and Bezos had already married legally ahead of today's ceremony on San Giorgio Maggiore island, but the duo chose to celebrate in an elaborate multi-day event abroad. The couple, who have been dating since 2019, said they weren't going to 'have a lot of traditions' as part of the nuptials. The blushing bride told Vogue that although she 'love traditions,' it is a 'little different' for a 55-year-old woman. However, despite Sánchez's - now Sánchez-Bezos - words, the newlyweds did choose some specific traditions they wanted to embrace on their big day. FEMAIL has taken a look at which the couple stuck to - and which they didn't. Not seeing the groom on the morning of the wedding Sánchez was pictured going solo as she left the five-star Aman hotel on Friday morning before making her way to San Giorgio Maggiore island ahead of exchanging vows with the billionaire tech mogul. She was then photographed walking alone along a bridge on the island, indicating she spent the night alone - and not with her now husband - ahead of saying their vows. Traditionally, couples do not see each other ahead of the ceremony to maintain an element of surprise and excitement before the bride walks down the aisle. Vogue confirmed that Sánchez and Bezos followed the tradition. Wearing white to walk down the aisle Sanchez has become synonymous with wearing eye-catching patterns and plunging ensembles to star-studded events and red carpets - but today she opted for something more traditional. The journalist stunned in a high-necked Dolce & Gabbana white lace gown. The entire dress was made from lace with a delicate floral pattern. The designer piece featured a tight bodice, long flowing skirt with an enormous train and buttons down the front, with the sheer sleeves showing off the delicate lace. The blushing bride's long brown tresses were pulled back behind a veil and she wore a striking natural makeup look. She revealed she also kept to the tradition of not letting her husband-to-be see her dress before the big day. 'I almost gave in,' she admitted, adding he 'begged' her for a glimpse. 'But I want it to be a surprise. As you get a little older, not many things surprise you. I can't wait to see his face.' Something borrowed... and an unusual something blue Sánchez embraced the old English saying, 'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.' She opted to wear a pair of Dolce earrings as her something borrowed, and gave a nod to Blue Origin - Bezos' space travel company - for her something blue. She told Vogue she carried a secret souvenir up in the rocket during her famed trip to space in April, when she blasted into space on a Blue Origin flight, NS-31, which made headlines with its all-female flight crew. Sánchez explained she did so so she could bring the souvenir back for Bezos, 'because it was literally one of the most profound experiences I've ever had in my life.' 'Seeing Earth from space, I came down and I couldn't describe it. It was the greatest experience I've ever had. Jeff said, 'It's gonna change you more than you think,' and it completely has, visually, spiritually,' she gushed. Sánchez didn't reveal what the souvenir was but is thought to have had it near on her big day. Celebrating her upcoming nuptials on a weekend away Like most brides, Sánchez opted to celebrate her upcoming nuptials with a bachelorette party with her closest female friends - previously sharing snaps from a lavish weekend away in Paris, France. The Emmy-award winning journalist had a full weekend of celebrations planned and kicked off her pre-wedding festivities with the help of her A-list pals, including Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Katy Perry, Kris Jenner and more. The glowing star was pictured beaming while surrounded by her pals in the city of love. 'Forever starts with friendship, surrounded by the women who've lifted me up, illuminated my path in dark times, and shaped my heart along the way,' she wrote in the caption. Wearing white before she ties the knot Sánchez has embraced being a bride to the fullest, wearing white to some of her pre-wedding events as per tradition - but not all. On the morning of the wedding, the blushing bride wore an elegant two piece, which consisted of an ivory tailored pea coat with black buttons, paired with a matching skirt. She completed her chic ensemble with printed headscarf, elegantly wrapped around her chocolate caramel tresses and a pair of classic black Celine sunglasses, along with a black croc-print handbag. For their rehearsal dinner, the former journalist wore a striking corset dress from Schiaparelli's 2025 couture collection. The golden $100,000 pre-wedding gown was 'a performance piece' that teased the opulent $20 million nuptials with tech billionaire Jeff Bezos yet to come, fashion experts shared. Walked down aisle by her father Sánchez has a complicated relationship with some members of her family, with her mother Eleanor and brother Michael reportedly not invited to her big day. The writer has two older brothers, Paul and Michael, but has a strained relationship with the latter. Michael was accused of the one who leaked the news of her relationship with Bezos. Despite telling Page Six, 'I would never sell out my sister. Everything I did was to protect Jeff and Lauren', The Wall Street Journal reported in 2019 that the Enquirer paid Michael $200,000. The Times reported that Michael claims to not have seen his sister since 2019 and not spoken to her since 2020, the legal battle over the leaking of the affair story created an 'irreparable fissure.' The outlet also said Sánchez's father Ray, brother Paul and half-sister Elena - who also joined her on her bachelorette trip to Paris - attended the celebrations. The couple will be blending their family officially with Bezos' four children - whom he shares with his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott - officially becoming the step-siblings of Sánchez's three children. Taking her husband's name Sánchez has made it clear in the past she has every intention of taking her husband's surname as per tradition - and she has already update her social media account accordingly. Sánchez was also snapped earlier today wearing two dazzling rings and a bracelet with LB initials on her wrist - likely to mark her new moniker of Lauren Bezos. In 2023, the loved-up bride-to-be told Vogue how excited she is to be Mrs Bezos. 'Uh, yes, 100 percent. I am looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos,' she gushed at the time.

Billionaire Jeff Bezos marries Lauren Sanchez in £48m Venice wedding
Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos has officially tied the knot with Lauren Sanchez in an impressive £48million wedding bash in Venice, with Hollywood's biggest A-listers looking on. The world's second richest man Jeff Bezos has married his partner Lauren Sanchez in a labish £48million ceremony in Venice. The couple are now officially husband and wife after tying the knot in front of famous friends and family in a ceremony that lasted just 25 minutes. Guests were heard cheering and clapping as the couple exchanged vows, reports the Mirror. Celebs including the Kardashian-Jenners, Oprah Winfrey and Leonardo DiCaprio. Ivanka Trump were spotted at the lavish event. Guests were welcomed into the event by a gospel choir, who sang Whitney Houston's Higher Love. All eyes were on bride Lauren as she stunned in a breathtaking long-sleeved gown complete with a dramatic train and stunning white flower detailing. The dress featured floral appliques over a corset style dress. Opera star Matteo Bocelli - son of Andrea Bocelli - serenaded the newlyweds at the reception, performing Elvis Presley's song I Can't Help Falling in Love With You. While the celebrations were in full swing in Venice, it was reported that the pair had actually tied the knot weeks ago. According to a well-placed insider involved in the event planning, they said: 'They have been married for at least a month, more than a month. The marriage is fully legal and took place in America under American law." As the legal union had already taken place, no Italian wedding licence was required. "There is no application for a wedding licence from the couple because it was not required. Whatever happens at the wedding on Friday, it will not be a wedding. "Under Italian law, it will not be a wedding celebration, any vows said or rings exchanged will have no legal meaning," they told Mail Online. The source added that Bezos himself confirmed the legal marriage and said the couple had arranged a a prenuptial agreement to safeguard his $244 billion fortune. The couple arrived in Venice this week ahead of the impressive event, with a helicopter picking Bezos and his bride-to-be up from the support ship of Bezos' superyacht Koru. The yacht had been anchored off the Croatian coast, and the couple touched down at the Venice Lido. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Thursday night saw a casual welcome dinner at the 14th century Madonna dell-Orto church. Local sources claimed security is ultra-tight, turning the stunning city into a "fortress-like operation". The ceremony was originally set for the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, but protests from the No Space for Bezos campaign forced a last-minute venue change to the Arsenale shipyard, which activists would struggle to access. Bezos and Sanchez arrived hand-in-hand, with Lauren sporting oversized black sunglasses and a sleek black halterneck dress.
