Shilpa Shirodkar Credits Mithun Chakraborty For Rescuing Her From ‘Jinxed' Tag
Bigg Boss 18 fame Shilpa Shirodkar has starred in several Bollywood films. Her career in the film industry was marked by several obstacles at the start. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Shilpa recently recalled how Mithun Chakraborty re-launched her career after she was deemed 'jinxed' by the industry. She said that she got the 'jinxed' tag after her early projects didn't take off. She recounted how Rikku Rakesh Nath, Madhuri Dixit's manager, presented her portfolio to Mithun, and advocated for her talent. Mithun Chakraborty, trusting Rikku's judgment, decided to give her a chance.
'When Boney ji's film didn't happen and all these press people were talking about how unfortunate or jinxed I am, whatever it is! Rikku ji (Rikku Rakesh Nath, Madhuri Dixit's manager) took my album and went to Dada. And he said, Ek ladki hai Dada. Mujhe aisa lagta hai wo bahut talented hai lekin koi film materialise nhi ho rahi uske liye, abhi to log aise bhi likhne lage hain. To aap usko ek opportunity doge? (There's a girl, Dada. I feel she's very talented, but none of her films are materializing yet. Now people have even started writing that she's unlucky. So would you give her an opportunity?)," she said.
Shilpa described how Mithun Chakraborty launched her with a Bengali film in Calcutta, marked by a grand muhurat event. 'Since Dada was very close to Rikku Ji, without thinking, he said, I'll launch her. And, he let the news come out that Mithun Da is launching her. So I met him and he launched a Bengali film in Calcutta. And we had a fabulous launch-muhurat-kind of thing in a theater in Calcutta," said Shilpa.
She also recalled that Mithun Chakraborty recommended her to Ramesh Sippy, leading to her role in the film Bhrashtachar. 'So I have to say that I got this opportunity because of Dada (Mithun) and I am here because of him," she said.
Shilpa Shirodkar and Mithun Chakraborty collaborated on several films including Bhrashtachar (1989), Swarg Yahan Narak Yahan (1991), Trinetra (1991), Jeevan Ki Shatranj (1993), and Hitler (1998).

IIIT-A develops interactive gaming robot to support children with autism
Prayagraj: Inspired by the emotional struggles of Ishaan from the Bollywood film 'Taare Zameen Par', where the world fails to understand and accept the challenges faced by autistic children, scientists at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Allahabad are working on an innovative solution that promises to offer new hope for these children. They are developing an interactive gaming robot designed to support the mental and intellectual growth of children with autism. The robot's unique feature lies in its ability to combine space-themed mathematical games with a deeply personalised approach to each child. As children play these games, the robot will not only teach them maths but also recognise their emotions, interests, and learning patterns. This way, the robot will assist in bridging the gap in their education, making learning engaging and more intuitive. Prof Vrijendra Singh, from the Information Technology (IT) department of IIIT Allahabad, explained that the learning process for autistic children is distinct from that of typical children, and they require a specialised educational approach. Keeping this in mind, the robot is being designed to address these needs by helping children learn through play. The project was spearheaded by PhD student Anishma Yadav and MTech student Aanchal Nagvanshi, who are working closely on the development of this robotic solution. The robot integrates both education and play, using a tablet that displays a space-themed game. Characters such as the moon, planets, and rockets will ask children simple arithmetic problems like addition, subtraction, and counting. As children respond, the robot will provide real-time feedback through voice and gestures. Moreover, the robot is designed to read the child's emotional cues, including facial expressions, and detect moments when the child is confused or unsure. At those times, it will either simplify the task or offer words of encouragement, such as "Great job"" or "Try again, you're doing well!" According to Prof Singh, the initiative is based on research that shows that about 1 in 100 children worldwide is affected by autism, with approximately 18-20 million children suffering from it in India alone.

Chandra Barot, original ‘Don' director, passes away at 86
Mumbai: Film director Chandra Barot , best known for the blockbuster classic, Don (1978), which prompted multiple remakes in southern languages and spawned a series of sequels decades later, passed away due to medical complications at Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra (east) on Sunday. He was 86. "My husband was suffering from pulmonary fibrosis for the past seven years. He died due to a cardiac arrest at 6.30 am,'' his wife Deepa Barot told TOI. Barot also directed the Bengali superhit, 'Ashrita' (1990), starring Mithu Mukherjee. Barot's family lived in Tanzania, but was forced to come back to India following racial conflicts in the East African country in the 1960s. His sister, Kamal Barot, was a playback singer in Bollywood. He assisted Bollywood biggie Manoj Kumar in films such as 'Purab Aur Pachhim', 'Shor' and 'Roti Kapada Aur Makaan'. The making of the original 'Don' is a legendary Bollywood tale. Barot's cinematographer-producer friend, Nariman Irani, was reeling under a debt of nearly Rs 12 lakh after his first film as producer, 'Zindagi Zindagi', had flopped. Barot offered to help. He was friendly with Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman having worked with them in 'Roti Kapada Aur Makaan'. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo They all decided to work in 'Don' to help Irani. Tragically, Irani passed away in 1977, before Don could hit the screen. Amitabh Bachchan, who won the Best Actor Filmfare award, dedicated the award to Irani and his wife. In the 1970s, 'Don' was an unusual title for Hindi films. Barot's mentor, Manoj Kumar, had asked him with a quizzical tone if he was making some film called ``Down''! Barot explained that it was a Spanish word `Don' which actually meant `gentleman'. Kumar understood and suggested that the pacy second-half needed a song. The advice led to the birth of the chartbuster, 'Khai ke paan Benaraswala.' Don, which celebrated platinum jubilee, was remade in Tamil as Billa (1980) with Rajinikanth as hero. A year earlier, NT Rama Rao was the lead in Yugandhar, the film's Telugu version. In Malayalam, the film was remade as Shobharaj (1986) with Mohan Lal in lead. Later director Farhan Akhtar reinterpreted the movie in Don: The Chase Begins Again (2006) and Don 2: The Chase Continues. Several Bollywood personalities such as Farhan and Kunal Kohli mourned his passing on social media. "Saddened to learn that the director of the OG Don is no more. RIP Chandra Barot-ji. Deepest condolences to the family,'' posted Farhan. On a rainy Sunday, Barot's last rites were carried out at the Kherwadi based Hindu crematorium in Bandra (east). It was a low-key affair attended by his family members and some relatives. As the final rites took place, one could not help but recall a Barot remark he made years ago: "I will be remembered as the man who made Don".
