Poland completes negotiations to buy South Korean K2 tanks: Reports
The specific size of the contract will be disclosed later, South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration said in a statement.
On Thursday, Hyundai Rotem said in a regulatory filing the Polish arms procurement agency has confirmed the contract was worth $6.5 billion. It said further details of the deal would be announced in a later filing.
The Yonhap News Agency has said the deal was to supply 180 tanks.
In 2022, Poland and Hyundai Rotem agreed to a supply deal for the first batch, or 180 K2 tanks.
While the first contract focused on Korean-made vehicles that could be quickly supplied as Poland moved swiftly to boost its military amid Russia's war in neighboring Ukraine, the second batch is expected to grant the Korean arms maker a more permanent foothold in Europe.
DAPA said a production facility in Poland would be established, with a large number of K2 tanks to be assembled locally through cooperation between Hyundai Rotem and Polish defense companies.

Red Bull's Christian Horner says Max Verstappen intends to stay despite Mercedes links
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has said Max Verstappen intends to stay with the team for next year despite speculation about a move to Mercedes, which would shake up Formula 1. Verstappen has repeatedly declined to say he's committed to Red Bull for 2026 following a suggestion last week from Mercedes' George Russell that his team spoke with Verstappen. Russell doesn't have a contract for 2026. The four-time world champion has a contract through 2028 at Red Bull, but there have been indications that a performance-related clause could allow him to exit earlier. The exact details are not public. 'The contracts between the drivers and the teams are always going to remain confidential. With any driver's contract there is an element of a performance mechanism and of course that exists within Max's contract,' Horner said on Friday at the British Grand Prix. 'His intention is that he will be there and driving for us in 2026. It's inevitable that he's of huge interest to any other team in the pit lane.' Horner suggested Russell probably triggered all this speculation to strengthen his hand in talks with Mercedes. 'I think the most important thing is the clarity that exists between Max and the team and that's very clear,' Horner added. Horner also said of Verstappen: 'He's made it quite clear that he would like to finish his career in a Red Bull car from start to finish. I think that's quite special and unique for him.' Russell said on Thursday he believed there was an exceptionally low chance he'd have to leave Mercedes for 2026. Horner added that Yuki Tsunoda will get the rest of 2025 to show he deserves to keep a seat at Red Bull, but signaled he'd consider a range of options inside and outside the wider Red Bull organization, including Liam Lawson and his rookie Racing Bulls teammate Isack Hadjar. Tsunoda was promoted to Verstappen's teammate in March after Lawson struggled in the first two races. 'Yuki has got until the end of the season to demonstrate that he's the guy to remain in the car,' Horner said. 'We have Isack also doing a good job and Liam finding his form as well. So within the Red Bull pool we have talent. Of course you're also open to what is outside of that. We want to field the best lineup that we can for next year. We've gone outside of that pool in recent years. If we feel the necessity to do so we wouldn't be afraid to do so again.'

China Imposes Anti-Dumping Duties on European Brandy as Trade Tensions Rise
China imposed anti-dumping duties on European brandy, most notably cognac produced in France, on Friday, as trade tensions between Beijing and US allies continue to rise. The tariffs, effective on Saturday, will range from 27.7 percent to 34.9 percent, China's Commerce Ministry said. They are to be in place for five years and will not be applied retroactively. Chinese authorities agreed to exempt some major cognac makers on condition they maintain their prices above minimum levels. The announcement came during a European visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi aimed at ironing out trade differences. Wang was set to visit Paris after stops in Brussels and Berlin. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said he will discuss the issue with Wang when the pair meet later Friday. The anti-dumping duties are the result of a probe China launched last year into European brandy after the European Union undertook a probe into Chinese electric vehicle subsidies. 'The investigative authority finally ruled that the dumping of related imported brandy from the EU has existed,' read a statement by China's Commerce Ministry. 'The domestic brandy industry faces a material threat of damage, and there is a causal relationship between the dumping and the substantial damage threat.' Besides cognac, China has also launched investigations into European pork and dairy products. The brandy probe was the first and targeted mainly French makers of cognac and similar spirits, such as Armagnac. China initially announced provisional tariffs of 30.6 percent to 39 percent on French cognac producer Remy Martin and other European brandies after a majority of EU countries approved duties on electric vehicles made in China. Exemptions include French producers Pernod Ricard, Remy Cointreau, and Hennessy. In a written statement, Barrot praised the broad scope of exemptions as 'a positive step for many players in the cognac and armagnac industry.' He noted that 'several important points remain unresolved, in particular the exclusion of certain players from the scope of exemptions.' 'We remain fully committed to finding a definitive solution based on the conditions that existed prior to the investigation,' Barrot added. Wang's European tour comes ahead of a China–EU summit to be focused on trade later this month in Beijing.
