Kedah sees RM20.38b in realised investments
NCER chief executive Datuk Mohamad Haris Kader Sultan said this positive momentum has continued into this year, with RM9.11 billion in realised investments recorded as of May 31, creating nearly 2,000 jobs.
'This strong performance reflects investors' and industry players' confidence in Kedah's long-term prospects, and in the northern region as a whole.
'NCER will continue to play a key role while strengthening its cooperation with the state government and relevant agencies to ensure that the realisation of investments in Kedah is enhanced further and meets the standards expected by investors,' he said at the NCER Aidiladha Get-Together event here today.
Prior to the event, the NCER presented its investment performance to Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor during the Kedah State Steering Committee Meeting.
He was also given updates on strategic projects such as the Kedah Rubber City and the Kedah Science and Technology Park, as well as plans to boost Kedah's tourism sector.
These include the implementation of the Integrated Economic and Community Centre (iCON), upgrades to tourism facilities in Mong Gajah and Tasik Pedu, and the development of Dataran Bukit Kayu Hitam.
'The iCON project is a continuation of NCER's entrepreneurship development programme, empowerNCER.
'Previously, entrepreneurs received training and support to start their businesses — now they are being provided with physical business premises to help accelerate their growth,' said Mohamad Haris.
He added that the iCON Yan development is fully completed and will begin operations soon, while iCON Baling has reached 90 per cent completion.
'Demand for business space at both locations has been very encouraging due to rental rates being significantly lower than market value,' he said.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Sanusi said the state government is grateful and fully supports NCER's efforts to develop the iCON projects in Kedah, calling it a meaningful initiative to bridge the urban–rural development gap by unlocking the potential of less-developed areas.
'I hope NCER will continue to play its role in supporting the Kedah state government's socio-economic development efforts.
'I am confident there is still considerable potential in Kedah to be tapped, particularly in the investment, tourism, and agriculture sectors,' he said.

DXN has deep roots in Kedah. It commenced business in Jitra in 1995 and continues to play a key role in the Company's global operations, with approximately 90% of its production exported across 54 countries. The site is supported by a workforce of around 1,825 employees, reflecting the company's continued investment in local talent while complementing its broader international manufacturing footprint. DXN's collaboration with Invest Kedah builds on that legacy to unlock socio-economic potential through entrepreneurship and innovation, while ensuring that local communities benefit from development across sectors. These initiatives are expected to generate significant employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity in Kedah, with a strong emphasis on engaging local talent, contractors, and entrepreneurs. DXN will also support technology and knowledge transfer to enhance local capabilities. Under the MoU, DXN and Invest Kedah will explore high-impact opportunities through job creation and economic growth in agroforestry, focusing on the cultivation of high-value crops such as coffee and mushrooms in designated forest reserve areas. It will also focus on aquaculture and island ventures, whereby the development of sustainable aquaculture systems for species such as oysters, red snapper, grouper, and coral trout, including those in hatcheries on the island and in coastal zones. The MoU will also focus on eco-tourism in Langkawi, with wellness-driven tourism offerings aligned with DXN's global brand and sustainability ethos. The first project already underway is a fish hatchery on Pulau Tuba, Langkawi, which began operations in March 2024. Spanning 1.02 hectares, the hatchery houses 40 tanks with the capacity to breed up to 480,000 fish, and focuses on red snapper, grouper, milkfish, and coral trout. The facility is designed to serve both commercial production and marine conservation education. DXN founder and executive chairman Datuk Lim Siow Jin said Kedah holds tremendous untapped potential for agro-based and tourism development. 'Through this MoU, we can deepen our footprint in the state while delivering inclusive economic benefits. In Q1 of FY25, Kedah secured RM4.2 billion in investments, with RM3.9 billion in manufacturing. Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Kedah is driven by Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP), Kulim Industrial Corridor (KIC), Bukit Kayu Hitam Special Border Economic Zone (BKH SBEZ), as well as Kedah Rubber City, Kedah Science & Technology Park (KSTP). Kedah is also seeing rapid growth in healthcare, driven by increased public funding and private expansion. Langkawi is positioning itself as a premium wellness destination, integrating rainforest spas, eco-retreats, and holistic healing. Mainland Kedah is directing investment toward eco and cultural wellness tourism in places like Gunung Jerai, Lembah Bujang and Tasik Pedu. The partnership also enables DXN to further strengthen its sustainable value chain. Access to local land for cultivating key ingredients such as cocoa and coffee will reduce reliance on external suppliers, improve cost efficiency, and support quality assurance. This complements DXN's current practice of cultivating spirulina and ganoderma for its own use. UniKL-ASTI to drive sustainable transport innovation in northern peninsula
KANGAR: The establishment of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Asia Sustainable Transportation Institute (UniKL-ASTI) in Perlis will serve as a major catalyst in advancing sustainable transportation and logistics in the northern region. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the institute, which broke ground today and is slated for completion by June 25, 2028, will serve as a premier reference and centre of excellence, equipped with modern infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of the transportation industry. "I view the establishment of UniKL-ASTI as a highly strategic move, not just for Perlis but also for the national education and logistics landscape," he said in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony. The groundbreaking event was opened by the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail. Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the 60-acre campus, located next to the Perlis Inland Port (PIP), would complement the development of the PIP mega project. He said the campus was expected to become a key driver for cross-border cargo flow between Malaysia and Thailand, with trade volume projected to hit US$30 billion (RM132 billion) by 2027. "UniKL-ASTI will be a vital component of the regional logistics development ecosystem under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), potentially positioning Perlis as a new strategic logistics hub in northern Malaysia," he said. UniKL-ASTI will offer a range of diploma and degree programmes in advanced Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) fields, including Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Technology, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) Technology. Meanwhile, the Raja of Perlis said the development of UniKL-ASTI would serve as a reference centre and hub of excellence, fully equipped with conducive infrastructure and support facilities that meet the demands of today's transport and logistics industry. "The institute will benefit the people of Perlis and also those in other northern states," the Ruler said. He emphasised the importance of cultivating a love for knowledge among Malaysians, particularly in Perlis, as knowledge was the foundation of personal and societal development. RM4bil investment, RM675mil export potentials secured in Anwar-led mission to France
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has secured RM4 billion in potential investments and RM675 million in prospective exports from a high-level trade and investment mission to France, according to the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti). Led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the mission took place on July 4 and involved engagements with 40 French industry leaders. Several companies expressed interest in investing in Malaysia across key sectors such as high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, renewable energy, tourism, digital economy and sustainable infrastructure. The mission was part of Anwar's eight-day official working visit to Italy, France and Brazil, which ends on July 8. He was accompanied by Miti Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz and officials from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade). Potential exports worth RM675 million were also recorded in high-impact sectors, including aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, digital economy, lifestyle and halal products. These sectors align with Malaysia's New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and Green Investment Strategy. Tengku Zafrul said the mission's outcomes reflected foreign investors' confidence in Malaysia's economic direction and business environment. "The overall success of this mission reflects many foreign companies' continued confidence in Malaysia's investor-friendly policies, supply chain ecosystem, competitiveness and economic growth potential," he said in a statement. "The investment and trade potential to be realised will also provide business opportunities for local companies, including Small and Medium Enterprises, and more high-paying jobs for Malaysians. All these are key in driving our Madani economic transformation agenda." Miti said French companies were particularly drawn to Malaysia's stable and dynamic investment climate, skilled workforce, efficient supply chains, and strong global demand for its products. The mission was also supported by several cabinet ministers, including those in charge of foreign affairs, transport, defence, agriculture, legal reform, and energy transition and water transformation.
