'A Minecraft Movie' Starts Streaming Today. Here's How and Where to Watch it

CNET20-06-2025
If you caught some morsels from A Minecraft Movie on social media -- videos of theater audiences going wild over a chicken jockey or Jack Black passionately singing about cooking chicken with lava -- today you can stream the flick that started it all.
The Max streaming service, which will soon take on the title of HBO Max again, previously announced that the video game movie would premiere in June before sharing the exact release date for the PG-rated comedy. A Minecraft Movie stars Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen and Jennifer Coolidge and follows protagonists as they try to get back to the real world after ending up in the unfamiliar, cubic Overworld.
There are mid- and post-credits scenes, themes of creativity and adventure, menacing piglins and, of course, zombies riding on chickens. A Minecraft Movie is directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre) and has been a global and domestic box office success. If you're intrigued to see what a live-action Minecraft adaptation looks like, or you want to rewatch the chicken jockey scene at home, here's when you can stream A Minecraft Movie on Max.
How to watch A Minecraft Movie on Max
The live-action video game adaptation hit Max in the early morning hours on June 20, (3:01 a.m. ET, to be exact) and is available to stream now. A version with American Sign Language is also streaming on the platform.
There are three standalone Max plans to choose from, and you can also opt for a bundle of Max, Disney Plus and Hulu if you want all three. Just getting ad-supported Max on its own costs $10 per month or $100 per year. There are also $17 per month and $21 per month ad-free Max plans (live events on ad-free plans will still have commercials). Separately, A Minecraft Movie is available to rent at Amazon and Fandango at Home for $10.

This new adventure movie will win the weekend box office. Watch the trailer here

Last weekend, F1: The Movie stood atop the box office podium, but this weekend a very different movie will steal the spotlight. Jurassic World Rebirth is expected to rake in between $80 million and $100 million on its debut weekend in North America, according to a forecast from Boxoffice Pro. Watch the trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth at the top of this page. Jurassic World Rebirth landed in theaters on Wednesday and has already been attracting plenty of interest from families looking for some midweek entertainment. 'A new cast led by Marvel icon Scarlett Johansson and Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali lends an element of star power that will surely entice even those most critical of Jurassic Park: Dominion,' Boxoffice Pro said, adding that 'the lack of Chris Pratt or any of the legacy players (Dern, Goldblum, Neill, et al) could be perceived as both a liability and a plus in this instance.' As per the movie's logline: 'Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.' Jurassic World Rebirth sees an extraction team — Johansson, Ali, and Jonathan Bailey — race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, 'inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind,' Universal Pictures says of its new adventure movie. In his review, Digital Trends' Anthony Orlando describes Jurassic World Rebirth as 'a sequel that brings some life back to the exhausted franchise.' While the review praises fabulous performances from Johansson, Ali, and Bailey, it adds that the script is 'occasionally held back by on-the-nose, expositional dialogue.' Orlando concludes: 'This movie is far from the best in the Jurassic Park saga. But it's a decent blockbuster nonetheless.'

James Gunn Says Nicholas Hoult Wasn't Cast as Superman Because He's a 'More Controlled Actor' While David Corenswet Is 'Loose'

It's widely known that Nicholas Hoult auditioned to be James Gunn's new Superman, and the director is revealing why he lost out on the legendary part. During a recent appearance on Jake Hamilton's Jake Takes, Gunn admitted that the Nosferatu star is 'a great actor' but he merely 'didn't fit the role' of Clark Kent. The Guardians of the Galaxy director thought he was a bit too 'controlled' for the part as opposed to David Corenswet. More from The Hollywood Reporter Nicholas Hoult Recalls Auditioning for 'Superman' on the Same Day as David Corenswet James Gunn's 'Superman' Tracking for $135 Million U.S. Box Office Opening James Gunn Says the "Movie Industry Is Dying" Due to Films Being Made With Unfinished Scripts 'You know, Nick Hoult auditioned [for Superman]. He's a great actor. I mean, some might say he's better than David in certain ways, but he just didn't fit the role, and that's why he didn't get that,' Gunn said. 'As much as you can transform yourself as a person, Nick was just more controlled.' The DC Studios boss further explained that Hoult took part in chemistry tests with other actresses who were up for the role of Lois Lane. 'One of the things that we were also doing was mixing and matching Lois' and Clark's when we were auditioning them, and so I wanted to make sure that we had that chemistry right,' he said. 'And the truth is, Nick, who is a more controlled actor, had really good chemistry with another Lois that was less controlled, so they were opposites.' Ultimately, he settled on casting Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois because of their opposite on-screen chemistry. Gunn clarified, 'David had better chemistry with Rachel [Brosnahan] because she's a very controlled actor, and David is a little bit more, you know, loose, and that creates a different type of dynamism on-screen.' It was previously reported by THR that Hoult was in talks to star in the next Superman. However, he ultimately joined Gunn's new DC universe as villain Lex Luthor. Of their time going for the role, Hoult and Corenswet recalled when they crossed paths on-set while auditioning for the film on the same day during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! 'I walked out of doing one of my audition scenes, and I was like, 'Yeah, not bad. OK,' And I walked around the corner, and there was lots of shadows on the studio lot and then one ray of sunshine,' Hoult said. 'David had taken a seat in this ray of sunshine and was sitting there, charging up from the sun like Superman does, getting his power… And in that moment, whilst we were shaking hands, I was like, 'I'd be happy if this guy was Superman. I was like, 'You're perfect for it.'' Earlier in the interview, Hamilton asked Gunn what other actors who were up for the part lacked in comparison to the Twisters star. 'A lot of times casting is finding the right person for the right role,' he said. 'So, most people weren't doing anything wrong; they just didn't fit how I envisioned this Superman to be.' Lizzo Fires Back at Ozempic Critics: ‘This S**t Is Hard'

Lizzo is once again hitting back at busybodies and skeptics who won't stop speculating on her weight loss. In an interview with Women's Health, the 37-year-old singer aimed to make her mindset, motivation, and methods crystal clear. She directed some comments at those who, despite her previous statements, insist that Lizzo's changing figure is attributed to GLP-1 drugs. Lizzo shared with writer Jessica Herndon that she's recently received questions from fans, like, 'Are you taking Ozempic?' and 'What happened when you said it's okay to be fat?' This is not to say that the artist seeks to shade those who turn to GLP-1 drugs in their healthcare journeys. She said, 'If I did all of this on Ozempic....I would be just as proud of myself, because this s**t is hard.' For the 'About Damn Time' singer, this wasn't a weight loss journey, but a weight release journey. Because, as Lizzo sees it, she didn't actually lose anything. 'It's okay to release weight...[and] it's okay to gain weight after you've released weight,' she says. In January, Lizzo posted photos to her Instagram wearing workout gear paired with an ecstatic caption. 'I reached my weight release goal,' she wrote, adding a motivational message for fans about achieving their own goals. 'I wanted to be 'big-girl skinny,'' she tells Women's Health. 'Every big girl knows what I'm talking about. Big-girl skinny is 250 pounds.' This meant a balance of feeling like herself while reducing back pain and health concerns she struggled with. The change, she explains, came from consistent exercise and a nutritious diet with lean proteins and vegetables. Each week, she performs a mix of strength training and cardio for three days, and dedicates two days to 45-minute cardio workouts. It wasn't about chasing thinness—only feeling better in her body, on her terms.
