Cong MP says jailed gangster threatening to kill son, urges LS Speaker to summon Punjab DGP
'Jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuriya has threatened to kill my son. One of my associates met my son and within one hour of leaving, he was fired upon today,' Randhawa said in a post on X.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Randhawa said that on Friday morning, his associate Parminder Singh from Fatehgarh Churian and some other party supporters had come to meet his son at his office at 10 am Thursday. A hoto of the meeting was posted online. 'An hour later, shots were fired at Parminder's turban shop (in which no one was injured),' Randhawa said, adding he has brought the matter to the notice of the Punjab DGP.
'After the firing incident, on Thursday evening, one person repeatedly wrote objectionable comments on my son's social media post,' the MP said.
Randhawa, who is in Delhi for the ongoing Parliament session, added, 'No gangster can shake me. Threats did not deter us even during terrorism days. We are not scared of threats'. He further hit out at the Punjab government, saying, 'Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and (AAP national convenor) Arvind Kejriwal have turned Punjab into a gangster's paradise where law and order has totally collapsed.'
Bhagwanpuria, a dreaded gangster with over 128 criminal cases, including murder, extortion, arms smuggling, and drug trafficking, was detained by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the PIT-NDPS Act and shifted from central jail in Bathinda to Assam's Silchar jail in March this year.
Linked to the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala and associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Bhagwanpuria leads a syndicate known for its extensive criminal activities across Punjab and beyond.
The incident follows a history of tension between Randhawa and Baghawanpuria. Randhawa had previously accused Bhagwanpuria of influencing voters in Dera Baba Nanak during elections, including the November 2024 Assembly bypoll, where he alleged the gangster's family was intimidating locals to support AAP candidates.
Conversely, Bhagwanpuria's relatives have accused Randhawa and his son of involvement in the June 2025 murder of the gangster's mother, Harjit Kaur, and cousin, Karanvir Singh, in a gang-related attack by the rival Davinder Bambiha gang in Batala. Randhawa has denied these claims, calling them conspiratorial.
Randhawa said a MLA of ruling AAP said 'killing of Bhagwanpuria's mother was not a murder, but a political murder. The police should have taken his statement and questioned him about how it was a political murder'.
He said the Punjab Police has done nothing about the threats issued to him and his son by Bhagwanpuria. 'I spoke to the DGP and he assured me that he will look into the matter. But what can he do? These gangsters have police protection,' he said.
Continuing to target CM Mann, who holds the home portfolio, Randhawa accused the Punjab Police of going soft on Bhagwanpuria. 'He is a known drug smuggler. Why has no action been taken against his properties by the Punjab Police under NDPS Act,' he asked in apparent reference to properties of alleged drug smugglers being demolished by the state police under AAP government's Yudh Nasheyan Virudh drive.
He claimed that most of the dreaded gangsters fall under the jurisdiction Batala police, but bardly any action has been taken. 'I have given repeated complaints to the then DIG Border Range Satinder Singh and to SSP Sohail Quasim Mir regarding a DSP and SHO in Dera Baba Nanak who are hand in glove with gangsters. If I am wrong, then police should contradict me. But they are silent and doing nothing,' he said.
Randhawa, who along with party MPs Charanjit Singh Channi, Gurjit Singh Aujla and Amar Singh met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, said that they MPs apprised the Speaker about the threats made to his son. 'We demanded that the Lok Sabha Speaker should summon DGP Gaurav Yadav and Batala SSP Sohail Quasim Mir over the issue. The Speaker expressed concern and has asked us to given the details in writing,' said Randhawa.
While the police are yet to issue an official statement on Randhawa's latest allegations, AAP spokesperson Neel Garg said the Congress leader should give full details of the incident so that the matter can be investigated.
Garg claimed that everyone knows that gangsters got patronage under previous Congress governments.
'AAP government has zero tolerance towards gangsterism. We don't spare anyone who tries to disturb law and order in the state. Ever since AAP came to power, we have put several gangsters behind the bars and even attached their properties,' Garg said.
Leader of Opposition in Punjab and senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa said, 'A jailed gangster openly threatening a senior INC leader, former Deputy CM, and sitting MP, this is not just a law and order failure, it's a damning indictment of the complete collapse of governance under Mann and Kejriwal.'
'If gangsters can intimidate elected representatives from behind bars, what chance does the common man in Punjab stand? Is this the 'badlav' AAP promised a state where criminals rule and citizens live in fear?' Bajwa said in a post on X. He alleged that the AAP government has reduced Punjab to a playground for gangsters, 'while Kejriwal remains busy marketing false narratives'.
Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said, 'A gangster has the audacity to threaten a senior INC leader…from inside the jail. Imagine the plight of the common people in Punjab. This reflects the complete collapse of law and order in Punjab'.

The AAP on Sunday slammed the BJP for allegedly framing its leaders in false cases and questioned who would compensate the families for the emotional distress caused by the serious corruption allegations. In a post on X in Hindi, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that all cases filed against his party leaders are "false".(PTI) In a major relief for AAP leader Satyendar Jain, a special court on Monday accepted the CBI's closure report filed in a 2018 case against the former Delhi PWD minister and others related to alleged corruption in hiring a creative team for the department, noting that the "investigation found no criminal activity or wrongful loss to the government." In a post on X in Hindi, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that all cases filed against his party leaders are "false". "With time, the truth will come out in all these cases. False cases were filed against us, and we were sent to jail. Shouldn't those who filed these false cases, and those leaders who ordered these false cases, be sent to jail? We were smeared with mud day and night, our families had to endure so much pain — what about compensating for all that?" the AAP supremo said on X. While accepting the CBI's closure report, Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh said the investigating agency has not found any incriminating evidence over such a long period, and further proceedings would serve no useful purpose. "Whenever they wanted, they filed fake cases; whenever they wanted, they sent us to jail; and whenever they felt like it, they filed a 'closure report.' Is this justice?" Kejriwal questioned. Judicial Commission on Kaleshwaram project holds KCR accountable for 'irregularities"
Hyderabad: The judicial commission appointed by the Telangana government on the Kaleshwaram project held former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao accountable "directly and vicariously" for the irregularities with regard to construction and other aspects. The state cabinet on Monday discussed and accepted the commission's report in its meeting held at the Secretariat, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy told reporters. Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, flanked by CM Reddy and other ministers, said the commission, in its report, also found fault with T Harish Rao, a nephew of KCR who was irrigation minister during the BRS regime, and also the then finance minister Eatala Rajender (now a BJP MP). The CM said the government would soon call for a meeting of the Assembly and decide its future course of action on the report after a thorough debate on the matter. The commission, headed by former Supreme Court judge P C Ghose, submitted its report to the government on July 31. Then CM KCR (K Chandrasekhar Rao) was held "directly and also vicariously accountable for the irregularities and the illegalities in planning, construction, completion, operation and maintenance of the three barrages", Uttam Kumar Reddy said, quoting the report. The commission also pointed out that the project lacked cabinet approval and works had started even without the final Detailed Project Report (DPR). The then chief minister is pre-determined and bent upon to construct the barrage at Medigadda at his "free choice" and the authorities associated with the decision making facilitated them, a summary of the report shared with the media said. The commission concluded that the entire project was characterised by "rampant and brazen procedural and financial irregularities", it said. "The report underscored that the Kaleshwaram project, intended as a "lifeline" of Telangana, became a colossal waste of public money due to a profound failure of governance, planning, technical oversight and financial discipline, driven by individual decisions and undue influence of political leadership", it said. The damage to the barrages of the Kaleshwaram project was a key issue during the 2023 assembly elections in the state. Recalling that he had visited the Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram project, along with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, before the assembly polls in 2023, CM Reddy said Congress, in its election manifesto, had promised to conduct a judicial inquiry on the alleged irregularities in the project if the party came to power. Countering the allegations against the previous BRS government and KCR, BRS leader S Niranjan Reddy demanded that the commission's report be made public instead of releasing its summary. He stressed that the commission's report can be challenged legally. The government is trying to divert public attention in the name of the report ahead of the local body polls, he added.

" Ek Chutki Sindoor...": Rekha Gupta's "Filmy" Swipe At Jaya Bachchan
New Delhi: The opening day of the Delhi Assembly's Monsoon Session saw sharp political exchanges as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a scathing attack on the Opposition, accusing it of historical negligence on national security and questioning its stance on recent military operations, including Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. "This wasn't just a military operation, it was about honouring our martyrs," Ms Gupta said during a debate on the Centre's recent actions. She was responding to the Opposition's remarks over the naming of Operation Sindoor, particularly remarks made in Parliament by Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan. "When Pakistan occupied Kashmir, why didn't they take responsibility? Why didn't they take responsibility for Partition? For the war with China? Why was the 1965 war halted and taken to the UN? In 1971, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers were captured- why were they released unconditionally? Why was the Shimla Agreement signed? Why didn't they own up to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots or the stone-pelting in Kashmir?" she asked. Hitting out at the Congress-led INDIA bloc, Ms Gupta said, "These leaders have formed a team, but when they speak, it's hard to tell whether they represent India, Pakistan, or America". "The so-called 'national sister' talks about taking credit. But their actions speak otherwise." She further alleged that the Opposition has shown alignment with disruptive forces: "They don't love India, they trust anti-national forces." Assembly Disruption: AAP MLA Marshalled Out Earlier, the house witnessed chaos when AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Operation Sindoor. Speaker Vijender Gupta immediately intervened, objecting to his choice of words, directing that they would not remain on record. He also ordered the marshal to "escort him out". The Speaker later confirmed the remarks had been expunged from the Assembly proceedings. Mr Jha's comments came during his speech on national security, triggering protests from BJP MLAs and warnings from the Chair. The MLA was escorted out of the House following repeated refusals to withdraw his statement.
