I'm a Former Lululemon Employee—These Are 15 'We Made Too Much' Finds I'm Shopping for Fourth of July From $29
Fourth of July is one of my favorite days of the year. But that doesn't mean you'll find me dropping big bucks at a fireworks stand in triple-digit temps this weekend. Instead, I'll be indoors—AC on full blast—upgrading my travel wardrobe at Lululemon. Before I became a travel writer, I was a store educator for Lululemon, so I'm very familiar with the brand's best-sellers. Just as importantly, I know firsthand that early July is a great time to stock up on essentials I can wear throughout the warmer months, and more often than not, the rest of the year, too. (Besides, isn't that the whole point of spring cleaning to make room for summer shopping? That's how it works in my house, at least.) If you, too, want to invest in some new looks this holiday weekend, below are 15 pieces I'm currently eyeing from Lululemon's secret 'We Made Too Much' section, which has been dubbed 'Summer Scores' due to the number of warm weather finds like sweat-wicking shorts for $39 or an ultra-soft tank dress for under $100. 'Timeless' is how I sum up this curve-hugging dress made of fabric so soft you'll swear it needs to be dry cleaned, even though it's machine washable. The ribbed texture is noticeable, but not too thick, and the contouring on the back and front could not be more flattering. Indeed, the Ribbed Softstreme Slim-Fit Tank Dress is dressy enough to wear to church or dinner, comfy enough to wear in coach, and practical enough to pair with some white sneakers for a full day of sightseeing. Shoppers say it's 'perfect' for travel and appreciate that it doesn't wrinkle. I first saw these new joggers a few weeks ago at the Lululemon pop-up shop in Jackson, Wyoming, where they take up prime real estate on a rack near the front door. Perforated for maximum airflow, they're a lightweight summer-friendly take on the traditional Adapted State High-rise Jogger (which has nearly 1,400 five-star ratings). The built-in liner keeps these pants from being see-through, and they have zippered pockets and bottom cuffs you can unzip if you want a different breezier look. Lululemon's Hotty Hot shorts have been around for years, and with nearly 3,400 five-star ratings, it's not hard to see why. Personally, I'm loving the new summer colorways, including Raspberry Coulis, Chilled Grape, and Raceway Green. Choose from two lengths: 2.5-inch and 4-inch (although the latter one is running low on stock). Both are made of 100-percent recycled polyester and feature mesh panels at the bottom for added breathability. I don't really use the liner's secret stash pocket, but I always keep a lip balm in the zippered pocket in the back. 'These are so lightweight and are great for traveling and adventures around the islands,' reads one five-star review left by a shopper who lives in Hawaii. One of Lululemon's most popular items, despite its relatively low price point, is the Everywhere Belt Bag 1L, which has racked up an incredible 24,000+ five-star ratings. I already own this best-selling bag in black, and it's served me well on my travels to all seven continents. Now that summer is here and my serotonin levels are the highest they've been all year, I'm stoked to stock up on the Lululemon belt bag in more playful colors such as Crater Blue, Lavender Lux, and Pink Dragonfruit. Don't get me wrong, I'll still wear dark hues as I often tend to do—I'll just pair my outfits with this eye-catching, and super practical, accessory. Wearing sweat-proof clothes that don't look like athletic wear on your next hot, humid vacation will be a trick you'll use over and over again. This Swiftly Tech Cropped Short-sleeve Shirt comes in tons of neutrals, bright hues, and striped patterns so you can pair it with almost anything in your suitcase. The flat seams are designed to avoid chafing, which is a plus if you're planning on sweating on an all-day walking tour or while hitting the hotel gym. Made for running, this shirt is a durable number you can reach for in almost any situation. Most of my leggings and pants are solid colors, so I'm surprised that I'm so drawn to these retro-inspired pants with contrasting color blocking. I think I like the color blocking so much because of the placement. The panels are down the sides and at the waist, elongating your legs and creating a very flattering silhouette, especially if you pair them with the matching halter top. 'I feel very 'va va voom' in this outfit,' reads one five-star review left by a shopper who owns both pieces. And because these pants are made of Lululemon's signature buttery-smooth Nulu fabric, I know they're even soft enough to sleep in. Perhaps Lululemon's most popular non-racerback tank, this lightly supportive top is so beloved by shoppers that it has more than 4,800 five-star ratings. I bought my first one three years ago at a Lululemon outlet store in Sydney, Australia, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a highlight of the two-week trip! Choose from more than 30 colors, and rest assured that this tank is easy to pair with wide-leg pants, high-rise leggings, workout shorts, and skirts. More importantly, it's so soft and weightless you'll forget you're wearing it (until you get compliments). 'Wore this to travel starting at 7 am and didn't take it off till midnight. It never got too tight or too hot, even after two flights and a 2-hour car ride,' wrote one satisfied shopper. Ever since stadiums started requiring clear bags, I've kind of become obsessed with the look. That's why I love this see-through mesh tote, where not even my smallest lip gloss can get lost. That said, besides the roomy main compartment, this bag has an array of pockets in assorted sizes. The exterior drop-in pockets keep larger items accessible, while the smaller interior pocket keeps valuables safe. Personally, I'd use it as a beach bag since it's so breathable, and I don't need to worry about putting wet items in it. I'm normally not a fan of skirts, but I make an exception for this Align High-rise Skirt. Why? It's so soft and features a built-in 3-inch shorts liner. The liner even has drop-in pockets, so I can store my keys and a credit card if I want to go sans bag. Choose from nine colors and two lengths: 13-inch and 15-inch, and don't plan on needing to return it because it boasts nearly 1,000 five-star ratings. One five-star review titled 'I wish I could afford to buy every color!' reads: 'I've tried other more affordable athletic skirts and this one is worth the money for sure.' The Lululemon Align High-neck Dress, definitely has a sportier look, but it's still plenty versatile, especially in these neutral white and black hues. And like every piece in the Align Collection, this wardrobe workhorse is made of super soft fabric with four-way stretch. Yes, it's short, but it features built-in shorts, complete with a game-changing open back waistband, so you can go to the bathroom without having to completely undress. Top-wise, I love the high neckline and built-in shelf bra. The cheery pink (Raspberry Coulis) color was the first thing that caught my eye about these shorts. Then I noticed the unique grid texture. While they almost look too pretty to hike in, between the abrasion-resistant fabric that repels water and the strategically placed pockets, these high-rise shorts are clearly designed for tackling the trails. However, I can see myself sporting them on pavement-pounding sightseeing days, too. Don't try if you're not prepared to buy, because the Women's Restfeel Slide will immediately win you over the second you slide into them. These slides, which have more than 2,500 five-star ratings, are an undeniable treat for your feet, especially in hot weather. Unlike other slides, they feature dual-density cushioning, so you have enough support to comfortably cover a lot of ground. 'I wear them in the house as slippers, I wear them as sandals, and I've even worn them with dresses,' wrote one shopper who describes themself as having major foot problems. Lululemon has made dozens, if not hundreds, of skirts over the years, but I don't know any as flattering as the Nulu Slim-fit High-rise Skirt. Best of all, it's 'buttery soft' and offers plenty of stretch, so you feel comfortable, not confined. There's even a slit in the back, so you have a greater range of motion, and the waistband has a secret stash pocket for your credit card, I.D., or keys. Shoppers say it's easy to dress up or dress down, and they praise its packability. This classic cotton twill hat might be the reason I break up with my dermatologist soon. (Just kidding: Routine checkups are important.) Yes, the star flower embroidery print (which comes in two colors) is cute. But I also love that this stylish hat has more technical features, such as a lining that has all the things Lululemon is famous for: four-way stretch, ultra sweat-wicking properties, and a quick-drying material for sweaty or rainy days. Bring on the sun and bad hair days—I'm ready. I've never touched a cloud, but if it feels anything like Lululemon's heavenly Like a Cloud Bra (which I've had for three years and plan on wearing to smithereens), sign me up! Currently, it's available for $49 in three gorgeous colors, all from the pink family. Even if you're not a fan of the colors, it's still worth buying. I would wear this in a hideous, drab hue with bleach spots if I had to—it's simply that comfortable. But don't just take it from me; the Like a Cloud Bra has more than 1,300 five-star ratings. 'I purchased this for vacation and fell in love with it immediately,' wrote one shopper who liked it so much that it's now their 'normal everyday bra.' Love a great deal? I'm a Solo Traveler, and My 15 Essential Safety Devices Are on Sale at Amazon for the Fourth of July—From $8
As a food and travel writer, a certain level of risk is unavoidable when traveling alone and exploring unfamiliar spaces. I love my job so much, and it's always so exciting to meet new people and try new foods and flavors—but there's absolutely been a few not-so-great moments along the way. Like many of my travel writer friends, I've been pickpocketed in the past—I was lucky in that I didn't lose my passport or my phone in the process, but I have lots of friends who weren't as lucky. None of us wants to scale back on the travel we love, but we can make efforts to stay safer when we're out and about, whether as a solo female traveler or just in crowded tourist-heavy spots. We can take easy steps to protect ourselves, with personal safety devices and other items that will help avoid potential theft and risk. Thankfully, Amazon's July 4th sales make that a lot easier, as some of my very favorite go-to packables for anti-theft protection and personal safety are now on sale—some as much as 50 percent off. There are plenty of places that we need to protect our valuables—trains, planes, the gym, while at the pool or the beach—and this cute and portable lockbox is a great way to get the job done. It's light, compact, and easy to use: just set your own combination and go. Despite its portable size, it's still roomy enough to keep passports, credit cards, cash, phone, keys, and anything else you need safe. One five-star Amazon reviewer calls this lock box "a must-have for peace of mind." It even comes with a handy included cable loop so you can secure the box to a fixed object, like your bike, bed post at the hostel, beach chair, or just about anywhere else. We want our valuables to be safe and secure at all times, but we can't always keep them in our sight. This TSA-approved luggage lock with a flexible steel cable is ideal for airports and on public transportation; it can keep our luggage and anything else we need to keep secure, safe, and sealed. "Bought this to lock up my skis at the ski resort so I don't have to worry about them walking off," shares an Amazon five-star review. It's easy to use, too, since you just set the code and lock it, no key required. These zipper clips are great to keep purses or backpacks more securely closed when traveling. Clip one onto the existing zipper and it'll be a deterrent for pickpockets. "Purchased these for backpacks we'll be using in Europe. But not just Europe, anywhere we're in a crowd where there is the possibility of a pickpocket getting into our packs,' shares a five-star Amazon review. They're easy to use and come in a pack of six, so you can use them on all of your travel bags. Pickpockets are going to go for open-topped purses or backpacks first and foremost; they want the easy grab-and-run. This neck wallet will be much harder to get into without you noticing; plus, its durable water-resistant fabric and RFID-blocking properties will keep the contents safe, no matter where you are. Amazon shoppers love how secure and well-designed this neck wallet is, calling it 'great for travel' because of how much it can hold—phone, keys, credit cards, and a passport. As a solo female traveler, I'm always extra alert when staying at hotels or Airbnbs. My personal safety is always front of my mind, and I know sometimes people get the wrong key card or a door can swing open. This door stop alarm is so easy to carry and use; you don't have to be handy because there's no installation necessary. Just place the alarm behind any inner pull door and have added peace of mind when showering, changing, or going to bed for the night. "I appreciate the extra sense of security I feel when I travel alone. It's easy to use and the alarm is loud enough that it would most certainly get my attention," shares an Amazon reviewer. A crossbody is the perfect way to keep items secure and attached to you, while also in your line of sight and your hands free. This Skysper bag's main compartment is large enough for your phones and keys, while the RFID-blocking zippered pocket is a perfect spot for your passport, other IDs, and credit cards. There are absolute horror stories about vacation rental and Airbnb hosts leaving hidden cameras in even the most sensitive areas of their home in order to monitor their guests. This means you could possibly be a victim of listening devices or hidden cameras, even while in the bedroom or bathroom. Hidden camera detectors are surprisingly affordable and help keep you safe by scanning the area for any signals. "I actually used this at a hotel we stayed at. Busted!" says one Amazon five-star reviewer of this hidden camera detector. The Tracki GPS Tracker is a handy device when traveling as it's an app that works as a GPS tracker for cars, luggage, keys, and more—even children and pets, making it truly priceless when traveling or even right at home. Use it to keep an eye on your belongings, or keep it on your person and have a friend or family member know where you are when traveling solo. It's the best tracker on the market, says an Amazon five-star reviewer. "Not only is it incredibly reliable and easy to use, but it's also surprisingly affordable compared to other options on the market,' they write. 'I've been impressed with its accuracy and consistency—it gives me peace of mind knowing I can track what matters most without any hassle." Whether keeping our phone in a pocket or holding onto it, it can drop, get lost, or be grabbed—and travel is a nightmare without our phone at our fingertips, not to mention the safety or cost concerns. This phone anchor is super secure with a double-gated carabiner with a twist-to-lock center locking mechanism. This is a must for peace of mind when traveling, according to Amazon shoppers. "On a recent trip overseas, I had my phone in my hand most of the day, every day, in a city that has recently become notorious for phone snatchers,' writes one five-star reviewer. 'The design gives the flexibility to attach this to an item (bag, pants, etc) or loop around your wrist, but I ended up using it around my wrist most of the time.' Hackers pose a serious risk, and I live in constant fear of fraud and identity theft. Access to passports, other IDs, and credit cards makes theft that much easier, so a pouch that protects against those RFID readers scanning our chips is a huge help. These signal-blocking bags can protect bank cards, credit cards, and anything else that has our crucial private information from being tracked or hacked. Even more fun? Put your phone in the bag and it won't get a signal either…great for avoiding phone calls or texts when trying to get some shuteye on another time zone. "Worth every penny!" shares an Amazon shopper. A portable charger can literally be a lifesaver if we need to access maps to find our way home when lost or call an Uber to get us out of a dangerous situation. This Anker device charges quickly, is lightweight, and even comes with a built-in USB-C cable so you won't worry about forgetting yours in the hotel room. "This is a great piece of tech, compact in size, has just enough capacity for what can be needed in day-to-day life as a backup power device," says an Amazon shopper. RFID-blocking gets increasingly important as hackers continue to become more sophisticated; these secure sleeves couldn't be simpler to use. Protect bank cards, credit cards, ID, or passports from scanners that can hack and commit fraud and theft by sliding them into the sleeves. "I was a victim of someone scanning my credit cards while they were in my wallet, and I came across this product,' shares an Amazon shopper. 'It fits snugly in your wallet. It comes in various colors ,which can assist you in organizing your cards if you have multiple cards, like I do. The sleeves are very durable, weightless, so it doesn't make your wallet too bulky. Since I've purchased this, I have had no more problems with RFID scamming.' As a solo female traveler, there are a lot of dangerous situations we can find ourselves in. It's very easy for someone to slip something into our drink if it's unattended or uncovered. These reusable drink-cover scrunchies are an easy solution for peace of mind by covering cups to block someone from slipping nefarious drugs inside. As an added bonus, reviewers say they use them while at the beach or camping to keep sand and bugs out of drinks, too. There are many reasons to consider packing a mini flashlight when traveling. They offer a light source in emergencies or blackouts, or simply a dark room where a light isn't accessible. If you are lost or injured and trying to find your way back, it can be a lifesaver—and, if you are simply trying to read instructions, a label, or even relaxing with a book in a dark room, that light can be helpful then too. "Perfect for travel. Lightweight, small, and easy to fit in a carry-on. Love the glow in the dark feature; makes them easy to locate in the dark, yet it is not obnoxious," says one Amazon shopper. Pickpockets know to look for purses and backpacks, but hidden pockets are a great line of defense. This cute fleece vest is great for layering and feeling comfortable and casual while exploring, but it also boasts six pockets, both internal and external, and some zippered and hidden, ideal for keeping valuables and personal items secure. "This is a necessary part of my travel apparel when I fly. I fill the pockets with my passport, boarding passes, phone, ear buds, reading glasses, etc. It looks nice with black stretchy pants and a white blouse, plus it keeps me warm in a chilly airplane," says one five-star Amazon reviewer. Jessica Simpson Wears Tiny Red Bikini as She Snaps New Mirror Selfie While Celebrating Fourth of July
Jessica Simpson shared a mirror selfie on Instagram of herself wearing a tiny red bikini as she celebrated the Fourth of July holiday She accessorized her stylish swimwear look with oversized white sunglasses Simpson's latest selfie comes after she debuted a dirty blonde hair transformation during the season 23 finale of American Idol in MayJessica Simpson put a patriotic spin on her latest swimwear look. As she celebrated the Fourth of July holiday on Friday, the pop star, 44, shared a new mirror selfie on her Instagram Stories, showing off her festive outfit. She sported a tiny red bikini, topped with an olive green, military-inspired short-sleeve shirt, worn unbuttoned. Her accessories included a large pair of white sunglasses and a printed bandana headband. A navy blue baseball cap decorated with the letters "USA" and an American flag emblem could be seen sitting on the bathroom counter. Simpson's selfie was fittingly soundtracked by the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers classic "American Girl." The fashion mogul has been having a little fun with her personal style lately. On May 31, she tried out a goth glam look for a night out to the We Matter x Limitless Mental Health Dinner in Los Angeles. Her ensemble featured a black satin mini slip dress with lingerie-inspired lace trim around the bust. She amped up her look by wearing a black feathered cropped jacket over the dress, along with black sheer stockings and black pointy-toe platform boots. A ring adorned with two large turquoise stones added a pop of bright color to her all-black fashion moment. Simpson also recently shook things up by making a change to her signature blonde hair. While making a special appearance during the season 23 finale of American Idol on May 18, the mom of three debuted freshly dyed dirty blonde hair with sun-kissed highlights. Her longtime hair guru and friend, celebrity colorist Rita Hazan, described Simpson's new shade to PEOPLE as "desert sunset blonde." Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. She said it took "two hours" to complete. According to Hazan, Simpson "loved" her new hair color. "She was so happy to get a new look and switch it up," Hazan said. "She always had a super buttery blonde — this time we wanted something new and youthful." "I think it's a fresh and young vibe, but with confidence and a slight attitude to represent her mood," the stylist added. Prior to her American Idol appearance, Simpson told PEOPLE that her "style evolves as I do on a personal level, through each stage of my life." She also said she draws fashion inspiration from nearly anywhere — and is a Pinterest devotee. "Anything from a vintage printed wallpaper in a movie I am watching or a performance piece displayed in an old documentary," Simpson explained. "Everyone who knows me knows I am observant. I never miss a detail. Inspiration comes at me in visceral ways, every single day. And I honestly don't know what I would do without Pinterest." Read the original article on People
