Eli Roth's ‘Ice Cream Man' Sells Distribution Rights in France, U.K. and Other Key Territories to StudioCanal's Sixth Dimension (EXCLUSIVE)
'Ice Cream Man,' Eli Roth's new horror film, has sold several key international rights to StudioCanal's Sixth Dimension. The acquisition marks the first major transaction for the film out of the Cannes market, and grants StudioCanal distribution rights across the U.K., Germany, France, Benelux, Poland, Australia and New Zealand. Media Capital Technologies (MCT) and the Horror Section are fully financing and producing the movie about an idyllic summer town that descends into madness when an ice cream man serves kids sweet delights with horrifying results. It is planning to give 'Ice Cream Man' a wide theatrical release during the second quarter of 2026. WME Independent is representing international rights to 'Ice Cream Man' and introduced it to buyers in Cannes this week. The deal was negotiated by WME Independent and Andrew Kramer of Willkie Farr & Gallagher on behalf of the film. 'The debut of 'Ice Cream Man' at Cannes is off to a strong start, and with this kind of momentum, we're confident that this is just the beginning of an exciting journey ahead,' said MCT principals Christopher Woodrow and Raj Singh. 'StudioCanal is the perfect home for what we believe to be the next great horror franchise, and we are thrilled to partner with them as we move into production.' 'When we launched Sixth Dimension at StudioCanal last year, the challenge was to find bold zeitgeisty genre movies to surprise and thrill audiences. Then along comes horror maestro Eli Roth, who StudioCanal last worked with on 'The Last Exorcism,' with his gleefully twisted 'Ice Cream Man' and leaves us helpless to resist that familiar jingle,' said Jed Benedict, head of Sixth Dimension. 'We can't wait to work with Eli Roth, MCT and The Horror Section to help build 'Ice Cream Man' into a new horror franchise.' 'Ice Cream Man' marks MCT's debut as a financier of independent film projects, an expansion from its role as Lionsgate's primary slate co-financing partner on films such a 'Saw X' and 'The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,' as well as the upcoming John Wick spinoff 'Ballerina' and 'The Housemaid.' MCT is a specialty finance company focused on strategic investments in premium content. The company provides capital to media and entertainment businesses, including motion picture studios, independent production companies and other rights-holders. A range of institutional investors, including MassMutual, support the company and its investment activities. Roth, in partnership with MCT, launched the Horror Section as a media company focused on building a strong library of intellectual property and creating a premier horror brand. MCT is represented by CAA. Eli Roth is represented by WME. Cannes' Un Certain Regard Film ‘Homebound' by Neeraj Ghaywan to Be Repped by Paradise City Sales, WME Independent (EXCLUSIVE)
Paradise City Sales and WME Independent are teaming up to co-represent 'Homebound,' directed by acclaimed Indian director Neeraj Ghaywan in the run up to its world premiere at Cannes' Un Certain Regard. 'Homebound' marks Ghaywan's long-gestated follow up to his feature debut 'Masaan' which had also premiered at Un Certain Regard in 2015 and turned out to be a highlight, winning both the Fipresci Prize and Avenir Prize. More from Variety The movie hails from Indian powerhouse Dharma Productions whose credits include 'My Name Is Khan,' 'Raazi' and 'Kapoor & Sons.' Producers are Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra, with co-producers Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan du Plantier, who had also produced 'Masaan' and got Scorsese on board for 'Homebound.' Headlined by Ishaan Khatter ('The Perfect Couple'), Vishal Jethwa ('Tiger 3'), and Janhvi Kapoor ('Devara Part 1'), 'Homebound' brings together talent from a new generation of Indian cinema. 'Homebound' revolves around two childhood friends from a small North Indian village who chase a police job that promises them the dignity they've long been denied. But as they inch closer to their dream, their bond is threatened by mounting desperation. Martin Scorsese, who's always championed world cinema and joined the movie at an early stage as executive producer, said 'Neeraj has made a beautifully crafted film that's a significant contribution to Indian cinema.' Ghaywan described 'Homebound' as 'a deeply personal story about friendship, dignity, and survival.' 'It's about people who are often unseen, and the quiet strength they carry in a world that rarely pauses for them,' said the director, adding that he hopes the film 'helps us look closer—with empathy—and see what we've been conditioned to ignore.' Paradise City Sales said the film 'offers a richly textured portrait of contemporary India that feels both deeply rooted and completely universal, which will resonate with audiences everywhere.' The also praised Neeraj Ghaywan for bringing 'this story of family, friendship, and resilience to life with such power.' Ad Vitam, a leading distribution company based in Paris, will release the movie in France. Paradise City Sales will launch international sales at Cannes, while WME Independent will rep the U.S. Best of Variety Sign up for Variety's Newsletter.
