YSRCP files petition to quash hit-and-run case against Jagan Mohan Reddy

Vijayawada : The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has filed a quash petition in the High Court in connection with the hit-and-run case involving party chief and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's vehicle, which allegedly ran over a party supporter, resulting in his death.
Meanwhile, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has upped the ante against the NDA coalition government and has called for a five-week programme called 'Recalling Chandrababu's Manifesto' during which the Party would reach out to the people with election promises of the coalition and highlight its failure in keeping them up.
Addressing the Party extensive meeting attended by MPs, MLAs, MLCs constituency and regional coordinators here on Wednesday, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy gave a graphic detail of how to go about in highlighting the failures of the government by showing the manifesto, explaining to people what is due from the government and how they got cheated.
Launching the programme with the release of QR code, he said, the aim of the programme is to show how much damage Chandrababu Naidu has caused to each family during his one year in office and how much damage is in the offing. 'This should be contrasted with the benefits the people would have received if they were to be in government. This line of thought should be taken to every household up to the village level,' Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
The QR code will bring out Chandrababu's manifesto and how much each family should have got and this should be done from district, constituency to village level in five phases, he said adding that the various frauds committed by him would also be seen along with the dues data.
'We should bring awareness among the people about how they are being cheated and how blatantly Chandrababu has been telling that all promises were implemented, and if anyone questions, he is being called names,' the former CM said.
Chandrababu during elections has promised to give more than what YSRCP is giving and through his cadre has given a bond explaining how much would each person under what scheme and said this is a bond which says, 'I, Chandrababu Naidu, solemnly pledge that I will uphold the trust placed in me by the people of our state', the bond said and was signed by both Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan.
'The amount under various schemes will be given from June 24, was the promise and it is time for people to redeem the bond and we should explain in detail in the five-week mass contact programme. Besides the promises, the government owes fee reimbursement, hostel and mess charges, Aarogyasri dues, which adversely affected the poorer sections,' he said.
'A year has passed, and from now on, we have to fight and be available to the people. The draconian rule with its repressive methods should be fought tooth and nail,' Jagan Reddy added.

EVEN AS the issue of removal of loudspeakers from mosques by police in the past few weeks led to opposition by some religious organisations, Mumbai Police Saturday said the city is now 'loudspeaker-free'. Officials said that it was Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who held a series of meetings with delegations from the two communities to amicably resolve the issue. Confirming that its personnel successfully completed a comprehensive crackdown on public address systems at all religious structures, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti on Saturday said that Mumbai is now 'loudspeaker-free from all religious structures'. Earlier this year, the Bombay High Court had directed the government to ensure that action was taken against loudspeaker violations. The police commissioner, refuting claims of selective targeting, made it clear that religious structures of a particular community were not singled out. While the ban on permanent loudspeakers is now in effect, the police commissioner clarified that temporary permissions for the use of loudspeakers will be granted during religious festivals. In the past few days, however, some Muslim organisations had alleged that the police were taking down all loudspeakers irrespective of whether they were violating norms or not. Some delegations had also met senior police officers and also written to CM Fadnavis against it. Sources in the government said that CM Fadnavis held a series of meetings with delegations representing Hindus, Muslims and others to amicably resolve the controversial loudspeaker ban on places of worship'. An official said, 'Fadnavis had made it clear that the state government will strictly adhere to the rules and directives of the High Court. And it would be applicable to all.' He also indicated that the state will not allow any confrontation or law and order issue arising on the subject. On June 25, a group of Muslim delegation met Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, complaining that police were removing loudspeakers from mosques in the state. NCP leader Nawab Malik, along with former AIMIM MLA Warris Pathan, his party legislator and daughter Sana Malik, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi, and others, had called upon Ajit Pawar to raise their concerns. The deputy CM assured them he would look into the matter. At the same time, he also brought to their notice Bombay High Court order, which prescribed permissible decibel limits mandatory for all places of worship. According to the Bombay High Court ruling, the permissible sound level for loudspeakers is 55 decibels during the daytime and 45 decibels at night. In addition, loudspeakers are not permitted between 10 pm and 6 am.

Book on POCSO Act released in Madurai
Madras High Court Judge Justice L. Victoria Gowri on Sunday released a book raising awareness about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Tamil and Braille. The book was written by Advocate K. Samidurai. The event was organised by Indian Association of lawyers and Thuimai Vizhigal Arakattalai. Justice Victoria Gowri said there was a need to create awareness about the provisions of the POCSO Act. The provisions of another Act that also needed awareness was the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, she said. Ignorance of law was no excuse, she said, adding that more such books need to be published to create an awareness among the public. People with social interest and social responsibility should unite and work towards bringing a change in society, she said. She appreciated the efforts taken by the author Advocate Samidurai and said the question and answer format in the book made it easier for people to understand. Senior Consultant Psychiatrist C. Ramasubramanian said the book was an important one and should be kept in schools to create awareness about the Act. The language used was simple and will help the readers, he said, adding that the Act was a tool to help the children and their families. Madurai Government Law College Principal P. Kumaran urged the people to read the book. He said self discipline was important and advised the students not to get influenced by the contents on social media. Advocate Samidurai thanked the dignitaries and provided free copies of the book to government schools in Madurai. He said the book will be distributed to other educational institutions.

Contempt petition filed in Madras High Court against Tamil Nadu Government for failing to start RTE admissions

Eswaran has filed a contempt petition in the Madras High Court against the Tamil Nadu government for not commencing admissions under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act for the academic year 2025–26, despite a recent High Court order. The High Court directed the State government on June 10 to reimburse private schools for RTE admissions and observed that non-receipt of funds from the Centre cannot be used as a reason to delay its statutory obligation. The court also asked the Union Ministry of Education to consider delinking the RTE component from issues related to the National Education Policy. Following the ruling, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi recently said the State would approach the Supreme Court by filing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) over the order. In response, Mr. Eswaran said he had filed a caveat petition in the Supreme Court to ensure the matter was not decided without hearing his side. He said the continued delay in opening the RTE admission portal had prompted the contempt plea. 'The State cannot keep six lakh underprivileged children waiting while it decides whether or not to follow a court order,' he said.
