Anwar succeeds in halting sexual assault suit filed by ex-research officer
A three-member Court of Appeal panel led by Datuk Supang Lian ruled that this was due to special circumstances, as a stay should be granted to preserve the integrity of the appeal.
Anwar's application to stay trial proceedings came after Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Roz Mawar Rozain rejected his bid to refer eight constitutional questions to the Federal Court on the immunity of a prime minister from a civil suit.
Roz Mawar, in her decision, ruled that Anwar's referral application on the eight constitutional questions was speculative and did not meet the requirements under Section 84 of the Courts of Judicature Act.
Anwar had sought the apex court to rule whether Articles 5,8,39,40 and 43 of the Federal Constitution grant him qualified immunity from Yusoff's suit.
He had asked the court to decide whether Yusoff's suit would impair the effective discharge of his executive duties and undermine the constitutional separation of powers.
Anwar had also requested the court to consider whether the lawsuit impacts his ability to carry out executive duties and undermines the principle of separation of powers guaranteed by the Constitution.

It's a no-confidence vote by the rakyat, says Takiyuddin
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim should take heed of the turnout at today's rally and make the decision to resign. KUALA LUMPUR : PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has likened the turnout of nearly 20,000 people at the Turun Anwar rally today as a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Takiyuddin said Anwar should take heed of the turnout at today's rally and make the 'moral decision' to resign instead of waiting for a confidence motion to be brought against him in the Dewan Rakyat. He also dismissed tabling a confidence motion, saying the number of MPs who would vote against Anwar may not reflect the sentiments of Malaysians nor reflect the number of Malaysians who were at the rally today. 'That's why, to us, the real vote of no confidence is from the rakyat. That is what should be considered. When the prime minister sees this many people calling for his resignation, he should pay attention,' rather than wait for action to be taken against him in the Dewan Rakyat, Takiyuddin said when met after the rally ended. The rally at Dataran Merdeka, organised by PAS Youth, was aimed at pressing for Anwar to resign as prime minister. The youth wing claimed that more than 200,000 people took part, although police estimated that just 18,000 rally-goers were present. Anwar had previously dared his rivals to table a parliamentary motion, saying he had already asked Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul to give priority to the motion if it was tabled.

Anwar reaffirms commitment to democracy, freedom of speech
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated his consistent stand in upholding democratic principles, including freedom of speech and the right to express criticism in a civil and peaceful manner. He said that criticism and differing opinions should not be viewed through the lens of hostility, but instead be allowed to grow and flourish as the heartbeat of a mature, progressive, and sovereign nation, so long as they are conveyed with decorum, peace, and love for the country. "I extend my deepest appreciation to all personnel from the security forces, including the police, fire brigade, medical teams, and volunteers who carried out their duties with great swiftness, discipline, and dedication to ensure public safety and order, and the smooth running of Saturday's (July 26) gathering. "To everyone who attended, whether to voice their opinions, show solidarity, or travelled from afar, I wish you a safe journey back to your destinations. May your travels be eased and protected," he said in a Facebook post tonight. Commenting further, Anwar said the same principles were reflected in the Prime Minister's Question Time (PMQT) in Parliament, which allowed MPs to pose any questions and directly express their objections to him as the Prime Minister. "I urge you to continue pressing MPs to attend and actively participate in all sessions, especially the PMQT," he said. Anwar also invited the people to continue engaging in dialogue and discourse, seeking common ground, charting the path forward, and building the nation together—not just through street rallies, but also by rising to explore and master new fields so that the country could progress with strength and vitality. "And if you have the chance in future, don't forget to return to Kuala Lumpur.
