Superman star Nicholas Hoult sized up David Corenswet after auditioning for the role himself and knew he was "perfect for it"

He might be the on-screen rival to the Man of Tomorrow, but Nicholas Hoult couldn't help but admire David Corenswet even after his own audition for the part of Superman. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live alongside his co-star, Hoult recalled the first time he met his competition and almost accepted the fact he'd met the winning choice for DC's legendary hero. 'I walked out of doing one of my audition scenes, and I was like, 'Yeah, not bad. OK,' And I walked around the corner, and there was lots of shadows on the studio lot, and then one ray of sunshine." It was then he saw the future Man of Steel. 'David had taken a seat in this ray of sunshine and was sitting there, charging up from the sun like Superman does, getting his power.' From here, a polite introduction quickly turned into a detailed assessment. 'I walked over to say hello, and he stood up, and I was like, 'Goddamn, he's about an inch taller than me. Look at his hair. Look at his jawline.' And then he started speaking, and I shook his hand, and I was like, 'His hands are a bit bigger than me.' And then he spoke, and I was like, 'Oh, his voice is a little bit deeper too.' And in that moment, whilst we were shaking hands, I was like, 'I'd be happy if this guy was Superman. I was like, 'You're perfect for it.'' Corenswet, who was also appearing on the talk show, thanked his co-star and highlighted his initial excitement when he learned that Hoult would be joining the film, only to face off with him as Supes' longtime foe. 'The day that I found out that he had agreed to play Lex Luthor, I thought, 'This may be the best thing that happens to this film because a superhero is only as interesting as their villain.'' They certainly sound like good pals off-screen, which means we can only expect some heated words exchanged and battles being fought when Superman finally flies into theaters on July 11. Dad Jumps Overboard to Save His Daughter After She Falls from Fourth Deck of Disney Cruise Ship: Reports

A girl fell overboard a Disney Dream cruise ship on Sunday, June 29, according to reports The girl's father reportedly jumped in the water to save her and the pair were eventually rescued by crew members One passenger described the incident as a "scary situation" in a post on FacebookA dad is being hailed as a hero after jumping into the ocean to save his daughter after she fell overboard on a Disney cruise, according to reports. The Disney Dream ship was returning to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Sunday, June 29, after a four-night cruise in the Bahamas and made a stop at Disney's private island, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, when the incident took place, Newsweek and USA Today reported, citing Disney officials. "The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water," Disney Cruise Line said in a statement, per USA Today. "We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes." According to the Disney Dream Cruise Ship Facebook Group, the girl fell overboard from the fourth deck of the ship, and a man identified as her father then jumped in after her. 'Her dad went in after her,' passenger Kevin Furuta wrote. 'Right after the incident, we heard on the loudspeaker, 'MOB [Man overboard] Port side!! Thankfully, the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!' 'A little girl fell overboard and her father jumped in to save her … apparently the dad sat her on the railing!' passenger Mary Ann Sutherland added in a separate post on Facebook. The man was able to keep the girl afloat while treading water for around 20 minutes before cruise ship members came to rescue the pair in a lifeboat, the Daily Mail reported. In video footage posted on Facebook by passenger Janice Martin-Asuque who witnessed the incident, a lifeboat can be seen floating in the choppy waters with people sitting inside. 'Supernatural' Star Was Nearly Cast as Superman

'Supernatural' Star Was Nearly Cast as Superman originally appeared on Parade. Actor Jensen Ackles, best known for his roles in Supernatural and The Boys, is opening up about his decades-long career in the entertainment industry. While speaking to Collider for a June 25 interview, Ackles shared he was nearly cast as Clark Kent, AKA Superman, for the teen drama Smallville, which ran for 10 seasons until 2011. Ultimately, the iconic role went to Tom Welling. 'I would shock you if I told you how many jobs I didn't get compared to the ones I did get," said Ackles to the publication. 'I never felt discouraged by the ones that I didn't get. Again, this kind of goes back to lessons that I learned from the veterans. There was a multitude of people who told me that every audition, every meeting, every time you get into a room is a learning experience. So, even though you might not get the role, you learn from it. You try to make an impression on those people.' Ackles also noted that he was eventually cast as Clark's high school football coach, Jason Teague, during the show's 4th season. 'They brought me in after [Smallville] Season 3 and said, 'We've been trying to think of a way to incorporate you into the show, and we're just thankful you're still available,'" said Ackles during the interview. Welling spoke about Ackles nearly being cast as Clark during a July 2022 episode of his podcast, Talk Ville. "It was me and Jensen [for Clark]. I remember going in for the actual audition. I went in and there was a wonderfully handsome guy. And I was like, 'I think this guy is a real actor.' It was Jensen. Who ended up being Clark's football coach," said Welling on his podcast. While recording a March 2024 interview on the Talk Ville podcast, Kristin Kreuk, who played Lana Lang, spoke about being Ackles' on-screen love interest during Smallville Season 4. "It was so fun. I was watching it now and Jensen has such an easy kind of chill, like, he's just so cool. And so his performances are really free and natural. And I think that was nice for me to engage with," said the actress.
