SHAH ALAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar has been appointed as the Strategic Advisor for the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec).
The appointment was announced yesterday in conjunction with the 10th anniversary celebration of the state government agency.
Sidec stated in a press release that Nurul Izzah was appointed in her capacity as the Executive Chairperson of Polity, a new think tank.
This appointment aims to bring valuable insights into public policy, socioeconomic development, and digital empowerment.
Also appointed as Sidec's Strategic Advisors are former Nvidia Corp and Foxconn vice-president Datuk Lai Yit Loong, and Foxconn director Dr Chiang Shang-Yi.
Both figures will focus on talent development and cross-border collaborations in technology and semiconductor manufacturing, in addition to sharing their extensive experience in global semiconductor innovation and industry development.
Sidec said these appointments mark a strategic step in strengthening Selangor's position as a regional innovation hub and accelerating the progress of the nation's semiconductor ecosystem.
"These appointments are also a strategic milestone in solidifying Selangor's position as a regional innovation hub," according to the statement.
Sidec is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Invest Selangor Berhad, established to drive the state's digital transformation through three main pillars: e-commerce, startup development, and smart city and digitalisation.
Meanwhile, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said Sidec was now one of the key drivers of the state's digital economy, with over 200 startups benefiting from the Selangor Accelerator Programme.
He said that one of Sidec's biggest achievements is the development of Malaysia's First Semiconductor IC Design Park in Selangor, which now houses over 12 anchor tenants and is supported by more than 400 local engineers and global giants like ARM and Siemens EDA.
He added that this success aligns with Selangor's continuously impressive economic achievements. For 2024, Selangor maintained its position as the largest contributor to the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), contributing 26.2 per cent of the economic value, reaching RM432.1bil, with an annual growth rate of 6.3 per cent.
"This success is the result of close cooperation between the state government, the industrial sector, dedicated civil servants, and the people of Selangor who are always progressive and competitive," he said via a statement on Facebook.- Bernama

Nissan considers Foxconn EV output to save Oppama from closure, Nikkei says

FILE PHOTO: A flag flutters at Nissan Motor's Oppama plant in Yokosuka, Tokyo, Japan May 23, 2025. REUTERS/Issei Kato/File Photo TOKYO (Reuters) -Nissan Motor is in discussions with Taiwan's Foxconn about a collaboration in electric vehicles that could save its Oppama plant in Japan from closure, the Nikkei business daily reported on Sunday, citing an unidentified Nissan source. Nissan's Oppama plant, which employs about 3,900 workers, has been a potential consolidation target in the struggling Japanese carmaker's restructuring plans, but the floated idea of producing Foxconn-brand EVs at its idle assembly lines could preserve the jobs and supplier networks, Nikkei said. Rafizi says he can't change PKR from the newly adopted culture

PANDAN MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, a two-term MP and former economy minister, said he did not want to be part of the political culture reflected during PKR's elections in May, when he lost the party's deputy presidency to Nurul Izzah Anwar. Rafizi also expressed pessimism about PKR's ability to reform its internal culture, suggesting it may be time for him to move on. 'If I can change (the culture), great. But I don't think I can. So if we've reached that stage, we should both move on,' he said. Though he did not specify what he meant by 'that culture', Rafizi had previously accused Nurul Izzah of aligning with money politics factions within the party to secure her deputy presidency win, despite her earlier concerns about these groups. He claimed these factions prioritise positions and use money politics, contradicting PKR's reform agenda. Rafizi added that Nurul Izzah had privately expressed worries about their unethical practices but later worked with them for electoral success, leaving her responsible for dealing with their influence in the party. In May, Rafizi also questioned how former MIC treasurer R. Ramanan rose rapidly in PKR, noting that within six months of joining, he was fielded as an election candidate, appointed deputy minister in under two years, and is now vying for a vice-president post. He contrasted this with long-serving PKR members who waited years for similar opportunities, emphasising that genuine service earns grassroots support over time. Meanwhile, Rafizi hinted that he might leave PKR if he is not a candidate in the next general election, adding that he has yet to decide whether to contest for a third term as MP. 'I didn't even say that I will even contest in the next (general) election. I don't have any intention to participate (yet) … I actually haven't made a decision whether to contest in the next general election or not,' he said on his Yang Berhenti Menteri podcast. — July 5, 2025
