Elgin man who wore nappies and offered girl, 14, money for sex avoids jail
Alex Bruce, 21, contacted his first victim, who was aged just 14, in the spring of 2023.
He flattered her with compliments before offering her money to visit his home and have sex with him.
Bruce went onto target a second girl, sending her videos of him shopping for nappies – and wearing them.
At Elgin Sheriff Court on Monday, almost four months after admitting to his guilt, Bruce was finally sentenced.
Bruce, who had been urged to work with the social-work department to complete background reports into his circumstances, will not serve any time behind bars despite his crimes.
Instead, for the next three years, he will be under the supervision of the social work department.
He will be made to complete any programmes the department staff see as necessary for his rehabilitation.
Bruce, of Mossend Place, will also be under a conduct requirement during that period. which will monitor whether his behaviour is good.
He was also made subject to the sex offenders notification requirement.
This will force him to inform the police of any changes of address or name over the same period.
Bruce's crimes had been laid bare in February when he appeared in court and admitted two charges related to his actions between the dates of April 1 and June 8, 2023.
The first charge was sending an older child sexual written communications.
The second charge was repeatedly sending an older child videos of himself and asking her to send an intimate image of herself.
Fiscal depute Karen Poke revealed that, among his request for sex and messages to the victims, he would also send one girl images of himself urinating while in nappies.
The court heard there were also pictures of himself in women's underwear, including a lace body suit and pictures of what he himself described as his 'thong collection'.
Bruce would ask the girl to send him back illicit images of herself.
Of the first girl receiving these messages, Ms Poke said: 'Initially, she and the accused communicated with each other on Snapchat.
'It turned sexual, the accused telling the witness she was 'pretty gorgeous' and 'beautiful'.
'The accused asked her if she would go round to his house.'
Bruce then offered the girl £50 for sex, said Ms Poke.
Bruce's second victim also received a friend request on Snapchat, where he began making contact with her, before sending her the videos and images.
Ms Poke said that, when one of the girls asked Bruce why he had filmed the urination videos, 'he told her he thought it was funny.'
Matthew O'Neill, Bruce's defence solicitor, had told the court his client had 'learning difficulties in the background' at a previous hearing.

Young man jailed for raping teenage girl and engaging in sexual act with 12-year-old
A man who raped a teenage girl and engaged in a sexual act with a 12-year-old in separate incidents has been jailed for five-and-a-half years. The Dublin man was convicted of the rape of a 16-year-old girl in February 2021 following a Central Criminal Court trial earlier this year. Advertisement The 21-year-old also pleaded guilty after this trial to engaging in a sexual act with a child under 15 in January 2021. This injured party was 12 at the time, the court heard. He was 17 at the time of both offences and cannot be named for legal reasons. He has no previous convictions. Imposing sentence on Thursday, Mr Justice Kerida Naidoo noted the defendant 'told lies' and claimed both victims had made up false allegations against him. The judge said the court had taken account of the man's youth at the time, noting that immaturity reduces culpability. Advertisement Mr Justice Naidoo said he would impose consecutive sentences as there are two victims. He imposed a total sentence of six-and-a-half years with the final year suspended for two years on strict conditions to encourage rehabilitation and victim awareness. The court previously heard that the defendant and the 12-year-old came in contact through Snapchat when she was 11. There were communications between them, and he sent her pictures of his abs. They met up several times and on a date in January 2021, he took her to the garden of an abandoned house where he engaged in as sexual act with her. She said it was sore and asked him to stop, but he replied 'shush, it's okay'. Advertisement Reading her victim impact statement, the now 17-year-old described feeling uncomfortable in her own body and the area where she lives. She outlined the effects on her mental health including sleeplessness, anxiety, flashbacks and panic attacks. She said she had to drop out of school for mental health reasons, 'when it came out what he did to me' as the man was then also a student at the same school. When interviewed by gardaí, the man denied ever being alone with the 12-year-old girl, claiming she was infatuated with him. Advertisement Evidence was heard that the man and the 16-year-old girl were part of the same friend group and had been hanging out in the area on a night in February 2021. The injured party, her female friend, the man and his brother walked to her home. The man later went into her home and raped her, telling her afterwards it was their secret. The girl told gardaí that the man's brother threw a condom inside during the incident, the court heard. In a victim impact statement she read to the court, the now 21 year old woman said she had experienced 'four long years of pain, hurt, confusion' and that her home is no longer a safe space as it has been 'tainted by that night'. She said she hopes that she never has to set eyes on the man again and prays he will never get the chance to do this to another person again. Advertisement The accused told gardaí that the 16-year-old made up the allegation as she was upset about kissing him earlier in the night, having recently broken up with another boy. Mr Justice Naidoo said the age disparity between the defendant and the 12-year-old girl was aggravating, describing it as 'significant' at that stage in life. He said this was not a spontaneous incident and the defendant had developed a relationship with the girl, which 'culminated in a serious criminal act'. He noted that the defendant and the 17-year-old girl were part of the same peer group before this incident. The judge said this was not a case of sexual experimentation between two young people where the male had gone too far, but the physical imposition by the defendant of his will on this girl. He noted the contents of a forensic psychological report, which states the man has an 'extreme lack of awareness about consent' and is at average risk of sexual re-offending. The report also states that the man did not ask for consent, but believed both victims wished to engage. Mr Justice Naidoo said this is 'at odds' with the evidence. The judge also said he had considered testimonials provided to the court on the man's behalf. Ireland Man (58) spared jail over getting another person t... Read More He said he would set a headline sentence of eight years for the defilement charge if sentencing an adult, before reducing it to four years to reflect the defendant's age at the time. The judge also set a headline of nine years for the rape charge if sentencing an adult, which he reduced to four-and-a-half years. The judge noted the man now accepts the jury's verdict, and that both victims have 'understandably' declined to accept letters of apology, given the defendant blamed them both If you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this article, you can call the national 24-hour Rape Crisis Helpline at 1800-77 8888, access text service and webchat options at or visit Rape Crisis Help .

Special education teacher groomed student with nudes and sex toy video
Rikki Laughlin, 26, sent multiple nude pictures and a video of her using a sex toy to the student on the social media app before attempting to pressure him into having sex A married special education teacher has pleaded guilty to sending nudes to a 16-year-old student on Snapchat and pressuring him to have sex. Rikki Laughlin, 26, sent multiple nude pictures and a video of her using a sex toy to the student on the social media app. The student reportedly told authorities that 'things progressed fast' after the Snapchat messages and that he and Laughlin had kissed. The teenager "made excuses" because "he did not feel comfortable" when the teacher tried to take things further, police heard. It comes after a teacher who "murdered hikers in front of their kids' was "cold" to his students. Laughlin pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk. She was a teacher at St. James High School in Missouri at the time of the crimes between September 8 and October 19, 2023. Laughlin was sentenced to five years of probation last week. It comes after a primary school teacher who searched for "Japanese schoolgirls" and "jailbait" was sacked after police discovered he shared indecent images and videos of children as young as six. Steven Spong, 30, had been teaching at Monkwick Junior School in Colchester when he was arrested in July, 2022, after authorities found he uploaded child abuse images online. In October 2022, he was fired by the school following a police investigation into his conduct. Police decided to take no further action against Spong because the images were not found on his devices. Instead, he was referred to Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA). The misconduct hearing, which was held this year, heard how police identified 16 videos and images that had been uploaded to the internet from Spong's home IP address. They included nine videos in category A, the most serious kind. Some of the children in the images were as young as six years old. The other uploads included two Category B videos, one Category B image, two Category C images and one Category C video. Spong also confessed to searching for "Japanese teenagers" and "Japanese schoolgirls" to find pornographic images of people that looked under 18-years-old, along with the term "jailbait." Spong denied any wrongdoing during disciplinary proceedings and the police investigation but admitted the facts in full ahead of the misconduct hearing. He also admitted that his conduct was sexually motivated. Decision maker Marc Cavey said: "The panel noted that, whilst the conduct took place outside the education setting, the nature of the alleged conduct relates directly to the conduct expected of those within the teaching profession and the standards which they are expected to uphold."

Paedophile asked for sexual images of children on Snapchat
Terry Hughes was ordered to register as a sex offender in 2020 for engaging in sexual communication with a child. He was sentenced for the same offence in June 2022, before appearing again later that year for possession of indecent, prohibited, and extreme pornographic images. He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order. For the latest crime and court news for west Wales, you can join our Facebook group here. Prosecutor Alycia Carpanini told Swansea Crown Court that Dyfed-Powys Police attended Hughes' Waterston home on June 25 after receiving intelligence that his IP address was linked to a Snapchat account involved in online child sex offences. Hughes initially denied having a device, but then handed officers an unregistered phone and gave them the PIN. Officers found a Snapchat account on the phone claiming to be a 15-year-old boy, and the account had set up a group encouraging teenagers to post indecent images. Two accounts were also found on Session – an encrypted instant messaging app where users remain anonymous. One of the accounts – in the name 'Terry Teacher' – had been communicating with accounts which claimed to be children, as well as with other adults who had a sexual interest in children. Sex offender Terry Hughes set up a Snapchat group encouraging children to post indecent images. (Image: Dyfed-Powys Police) During conversations between June 11 and 14, Hughes asked for sexual pictures from an user who said they were a teenage girl. He also sent pictures of himself naked and a video of himself masturbating. In the early hours of June 25, he asked a user claiming to be a 10-year-old child for indecent images and sent naked images of himself. The user sent an image of a young child 'in a state of undress', however Ms Carpanini said this did not meet the criteria as an indecent image. Hughes had also been speaking with a man with a young child, and encouraged him to send indecent images of his son. The court heard Hughes could only be charged with attempted sexual communication with a child because the real age of the other account holders could not be identified. READ MORE: Man admits sexual communication with a child he met through online video gaming. Hughes, of Meadow Way, made full admissions in interview, and pleaded guilty to two offences of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child to watch sexual activity, making a Category C indecent images, and breaching of a sexual harm prevention order. The court heard all of 41-year-old Hughes' nine previous offences were relating to child sexual offences. David Singh, appearing for Hughes, acknowledged the mitigation available is this case was 'limited'. 'There's a recognition that he does have a real problem that has to be addressed,' he said. 'Mr Hughes deeply regrets his behaviour. He is ashamed.' Judge Geraint Walters sentenced Hughes to a total of two years imprisonment. The defendant must register as a sex offender for 10 years, and was made the subject of a new sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
