Widow of soldier martyred in Pulwama to finally get a piece of land after 25 years of struggle
The issue came to the notice of Upa Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa when he paid a surprise visit to Mandya recently. The authorities were pulled up by Upa Lokayukta for making the widow of a martyr to wait for over 25 years for a grant of land.
Followingly, the Mandya district administration has come up to allot a 30x40 ft site to Geetha under the Urban Ashraya Scheme in Hosaholalu Layout in K R Pet taluk.

Followingly, Geetha applied for a grand land bearing Sy. No.48, measuring 8 acres of Shravanahalli village of Akkihebbal Hobli of KR Pet taluk, but it was not considered by the authorities and therefore, she filed a complaint before the Upa Lokayukta in June 2022.
Several notices were issued to the authorities, and the matter was taken up with the district administration when Justice Veerappa visited Mandya recently.
Justice Veerappa was informed by Ashok, Tahsildar, KR Pet taluk, that Sy. No.48 was forest land and cannot be granted.

Kuki group ‘enters' Meitei farmland, sparks tension
Imphal: A group of Kuki individuals allegedly entered a paddy field owned by Meitei farmers at Khurkhul Maning Singjapokpi in Imphal West district on Wednesday, resulting in fresh tension. Sources said the group from Champai village near Singjapokpi entered the farmland around 10.30am without notifying or obtaining permission from the landowners. "The Kukis were unarmed, but they intended to cultivate our land. So, we alerted the nearby CRPF," a local resident told TOI over the phone. Security personnel intervened and, along with villagers, escorted the trespassers out. There were no reports of violence or further escalation at the time of this report. Manipur has experienced ongoing tensions over access to agricultural land in sensitive areas between hill and valley regions, where residents remain vigilant. Previously, a Meitei farmer from the same area was detained and handed over to Sekmai Police Station by central security forces for photographing Kuki individuals reportedly ploughing fields with a tractor. Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding Wednesday's incident. However, security measures have been increased in the affected areas to prevent further disturbances during the critical paddy cultivation period.

Encounter breaks out between terrorists, security forces in J&K's Kishtwar
JAMMU: A gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in a heavily forested area in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said. The encounter started when police assisted by the Army and CRPF launched a search and cordon operation in the Kuchal area of Chatroo around 7.45 pm following information about the presence of terrorists this evening, they said. The officials said the terrorists opened fire on noticing the security search parties, leading to a gunfight which was continuing when last reports were received. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to maintain a tight cordon and neutralise the terrorists who are believed to be two to three in number and affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit, the officials said. Army's Jammu-based White Knight Corps, in a post on X, said, "Based on specific intelligence a joint search operation was underway in Kanzal Mandu, Kishtwar. Contact has been established with the terrorists and operations are in progress." Earlier, three terrorists and a soldier were killed in two separate encounters in Chatroo belt in April and May, this year. The latest encounter comes a week after a JeM terrorist was killed in an encounter by security forces in remote Bihali area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district.

CRPF deploys special women's team for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims on Baltal Route
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has deployed a special 'May I Help You' women personnel team to assist Amarnath Yatra pilgrims who take the Baltal route to reach the cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday. Pilgrims in a jubilant mood as they arrive at Baltal Base Camp to embark on their journey of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025, in Ganderbal.(ANI) The paramilitary force has pooled in the highest number of troops for the annual pilgrimage that was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Jammu on Wednesday. Of 581 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) companies deployed for the yatra, 219 are from the CRPF, while the rest are from forces like the BSF, ITBP, CISF, and SSB. The pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre high shrine will commence on July 3 from the Kashmir valley via two tracks — the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in the Ganderbal district. The CRPF has deployed a team of its women personnel wearing 'May I Help You' embossed orange vests along the Baltal route to help female pilgrims along the route from the base camp and the entry point at 'Domail'. These teams will be stationed at vital locations, officials said. "The force is committed to conducting a safe Amarnath Yatra for the pilgrims in coordination with all stakeholders. All our teams are tasked to render timely assistance to the pilgrims and also provide a strong security cover," CRPF deputy inspector general and joint nodal officer for the Yatra, Sudhir Kumar, said. Kumar, who supervised the yatra last year too, said all security arrangements are in place for the event, taking place against the backdrop of the April 22 gunning down of 26 men in Pahalgam in a terrorist attack. The CRPF has also deployed a team comprising 30 personnel as part of its mountain rescue teams (MRTs) along the two journey tracks. They will help in rescuing pilgrims in case of medical complications, which usually occur due to high altitude, and respond to any natural or man-made disaster, a senior officer said. The yatra will conclude on August 9. More than 3.31 lakh devotees have registered so far for this year's pilgrimage.
