Johnny Lever's Daughter Jamie Weighs In On Bollywood Nepotism: "My Journey Has Been Quite Different"

NDTV4 days ago
New Delhi:
Actor-comedian Jonny Lever's daughter Jamie Lever has opened up about the concept of nepotism in Bollywood. She recalled her difficult journey in the film industry marked by countless auditions and rejections. The actress also revealed the reason why she doesn't consider herself a 'nepo kid'.
Jamie Lever, in an interview with Zoom, revealed, 'I'm seeing this very closely now. There's a difference between being a nepo kid and being an actor's kid. I feel like I'm an actor's kid. I'm the daughter of an actor, but my journey has been very different. Nepo kids have a different path. They often enjoy a lot of privileges and are given opportunities, sometimes even without proving their talent or ability."
She added, 'I've been observing this up close, my journey has been quite different. And there's a clear distinction. Even though I'm a child of the industry, I can see how big the difference is.'
Recounting her challenges, the 37-year-old shared, 'There are people who get roles served to them on a silver platter, being handed lead parts in films without much effort. And then there are people like us who've had to go through countless auditions, face rejections, and still keep going.'
Jamie remembered a piece of advice given to her by Johnny Lever.
She said, 'If you're handed an opportunity on a silver platter, you must give it your all. Take all the training you can to become the best version of yourself. My father once warned me: 'If you want to enter this industry, be the best, or do not bother at all'.'
Johnny Lever, known for his impeccable comic timing, shot to fame in the 1990s by playing memorable characters in films like Baazigar, Deewana Mastana, Dulhe Raja, and Baadshah.
Meanwhile, Jamie Lever has appeared in several movies, including Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Housefull 4, Bhoot Police, Yaatris, and Crakk. At present, she is ready to embark on her comedy tour, The Jamie Lever Show. It will begin on August 1 in Seattle, United States, and will cover 15 cities, finally wrapping up on August 31 in Boston.

Just Like Shah Rukh Khan, Tahir Raj Bhasin Hopes To Redefine Bollywood

Tahir Raj Bhasin shared that he aspires to bring a similar blend of charm and disruption to today's cinema like Shah Rukh Khan who redefined stardom in the 1990s. Tahir Raj Bhasin is gaining a lot of recognition for his role as an antagonist in Special Ops 2.0. In his latest interview, Tahir opened up about how he manifests his career to turn out. Tahir discussed the dynamic environment of Indian cinema and the influences that continue to shape his journey. In conversation with Hindustan Times, Tahir Raj Bhasin said, '90s SRK was disruptive. It was the villain in Baazigar and the charmer that we saw in DDLJ. SRK today is an icon, but what he was doing in the 90s, were all the kind of heroes like Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, who were flawed and had an element of charm to them. And so comes the idea to me that I would lend my skill to stories that are disruptive and drive them as entertainingly as possible." Moving on, Tahir described Bollywood as a 'living organism" while reflecting on the current state of the Hindi film business, particularly in relation to the thriving South film Industry. He mentioned that Bollywood evolves and has to change and adapt to the audience. On the professional front, Tahir has wrapped a mystery thriller for Netflix with Parineeti Chopra, directed by Renzil D'Silva and produced by Siddharth P. Malhotra. Though the actor did not divulge much about the role, he noted that it is a new genre for him. Tahir played the role of Collector, the antagonist in Neeraj Pandey's Special Ops 2, alongside Kay Kay Menon. Special Ops 2 follows Himmat Singh and his team of secret spies. This time, they're fighting an AI threat rather than terrorists. Tahir's character kidnaps India's renowned scientist, who has access to all key sites and knowledge about the country. The Collector's motive for the kidnapping was to gain control of India. First Published: July 28, 2025, 12:41 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Kapil Sharma's weight loss secret: How the ace comedian lost 11 kgs in 63 days with just THIS rule

Kapil Sharma's weight loss secret: How the ace comedian lost 11 kgs in 63 days with just THIS rule Kapil Sharma's surprising weight loss transformation caught everyone's eye. Known for his impeccable comic timing, the ace comedian is now earning all the love for his new, lean and confident avatar. Behind the drastic change is not just a diet plan or rigorous training, but a well-planned lifestyle led by his fitness trainer Yogesh Bhateja. Yogesh, who has trained many Bollywood biggies like Farah Khan, Kangana Ranuat, and Sonu Sood, shared that Kapil's weight loss journey wasn't an easy one. But through disciplined lifestyle, smart approach and a technique called the 21-21-21 rule, his habits reshaped and inspired him to shed those extra pounds. Kapil Sharma's weight loss journey Yogesh started training Kapil at home, using basic tools like resistance bands and Yoga mat. Gym equipments were later added in his fitness journey. Describing the first day of his training, Yogesh said, 'The story of Day 1 is actually pretty funny. I asked him to do stretches, and because he hadn't moved his body in a long time, even simple movements like arm rotations, body twists, and toe touches caused him discomfort. His expressions were so exaggerated and comic… From the very next day, he was back on schedule, and we began with basic movements. That's when I realised how stiff his body had become; there was no food discipline, and a lot of inflammation in his body.' What made things worse for Kapil Sharma during his weight loss programme? Yogesh revealed that Kapil's hectic lifestyle made things more challenging for him. 'Since Kapil was the main guy, the responsibility on him was even greater. He was sleep-deprived, his diet had no set pattern, and he would eat at odd times. There was no discipline. It took me a long time, along with his manager and team, to bring some alignment into his lifestyle. But by God's grace, when his film came out, everyone saw the difference on screen,' he added. Kapil Sharma's diet plan In his diet, Yogesh made few changes, by instructing him to have more fish, calling it 'a great source of protein that helps manage calories.' He also included a good amount of vegetables in his meals. Kapil Sharma on the professional front While Kapil's weight has shoot up and down in the past, he's now in great shape, inspiring fans with his dashing pictures on social media. Meanwhile, on the work front, Kapil is current hosting The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show Season 3 on Netflix. He also shared the first look of the sequel of his 2015 film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon during Eid.

How to do a quick makeup look in 5 minutes before a meeting

We've all had those mornings. You oversleep, your laptop is blinking with back-to-back calls, and you barely have time to brush your teeth let alone look camera-ready. But don't panic. Looking presentable on Zoom doesn't need to take an hour. In fact, with the right steps, you can pull together your entire routine in under five minutes and still come across as polished, fresh, and put-together. Here's how to make those five minutes count. Wake up your face First, splash cold water on your face seriously. Not only does it help shake off the sleep, but it also tightens your pores and wakes up dull skin. If you have it, follow up with a cooling toner or mist spray to revive your complexion instantly. Follow with a moisturizer with SPF. Even if you're indoors, the blue light from screens affects your skin over time. A light gel or hydrating cream makes you look less tired, even if you are. No time to wait? Tap in under-eye cream or serum with your ring finger. It's a small step that makes a big difference on Zoom. Skip foundation, go tinted Forget the full base. Instead, reach for a tinted moisturizer, BB cream, or concealer. Dab a little under your eyes, around your nose, and any spot that looks red or uneven. Blend it in quickly with your fingers or a sponge. This lets your natural skin show through while still giving you that smooth, even-toned look on camera. Zoom doesn't need high coverage; it just needs a little balance. Bring back color A washed-out face never looks awake. Add color back in with cream blush or lip tint. The trick? Use a tiny bit on your cheeks and blend it up toward your temples. The same product can go on your lips to save time. It's fast, flattering, and makes you look instantly more alive. If you have an extra 30 seconds, brush your brows lightly upward with a spoolie or brow gel. Framed brows make a huge difference on-screen. Frame your eyes Your eyes do the talking on video calls, so give them a little boost. Skip the heavy eyeshadow just curl your lashes and swipe on a lengthening mascara. It opens up your eyes and makes you look fresher, even on low-res webcams. If you're super pressed for time, a quick eyeliner flick at the outer corners gives your eyes lift and shape with minimal effort. Zoom polish Throw on a clean top that isn't wrinkled. Bold colors like navy, emerald, or burgundy tend to look best on Zoom. Avoid too much white (it can blow out your face) or small patterns that blur on camera. Run a comb through your hair or slick it back into a low bun or ponytail. Add a clip if you want it to look like you put in effort. Hairline looking messy? A tiny dab of serum or hand cream can tame frizz instantly. Take a deep breath. Sit near a window for natural light or angle your lamp toward your face. Then, hit 'Join Meeting.'
