Cypress Bay's Michael Marsans is the Broward County Boys' Volleyball Coach of the Year
In addition to its talented rosters, its coaching has kept it among the most consistent.
In the two seasons since he became head coach, Michael Marsans has maintained that standard for the Lightning.
This past year, Marsans guided Cypress Bay back to the regional playoffs and to a successful 19-7 season in which it lost only once to a Broward County opponent.
Marsans is the Miami Herald's Broward Boys' Volleyball Coach of the Year.
He led the Lightning to the regional semifinal round for the second consecutive season in Class 3A, which many considered to be the toughest of the state's classifications after this year's expansion to a three-class format.
Cypress Bay's season ended with a close four-set loss to Miami Columbus.
Along the way the Lightning beat some of the top teams in the state such as Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, Miami Palmetto, West Palm Beach Kings Academy, Miami True North and Fort Lauderdale Archbishop McCarthy.
Led by Miami Herald Player of the Year Tyler Johnson, a BYU signee, the Lightning again had one of the more dominant squads in the state and the ability to take over matches quickly all season.
Johnson is one of five seniors the Lightning graduated, but Marsans has a strong young core of talent led by rising senior Mateo Foronda, which he hopes to build around to attempt again next season to reach the state final four for the first time in school history.
